DE: It's a wonderful something

From gavin62truck:
If you could create an ideal alternate universe for your pups, what would it be like? This can involve anything from "fixing" aspects of their canon or characterization, to weaving Millicanon into their actual canon, to just complete and utter crack.

And to this I add, if you are failing for ideas, tag in with a pup and let us create the AU!

I find AUs fascinating but tricky as I tend to play pups that are deeply connected to their worlds. So the things that makes their worlds difficult are part of why I play them. I'd love suggestions for AUs as they're something I find interesting but not easy with the characters I play.

As part of AU!Hogwarts, I've created a detailed AU for Will that I love playing whenever I get the chance. Also for a plot with Eric, I created a mirrorverse Will who worked for the sheriff, I've yet to create a happy AU for him, because he needs to be working with Robin to be himself. Oh and all the other Robin Hood verses are AUs for him or he's an AU for them, because that's what makes sense.

Since Charles is part of Marvel, all of his comics' canon can be considered an AU for him and I've also written fic where the Marvel movie verses coexist. I know that many fics are written that try and fix the end of XMFC but I'm not interested in looking at that and haven't dealt with it in my own writing. A number of fics have surprised me with their major AUness. Charles' journey is fascinating because of how he grows and changes due to being challenged by Erik and his ideas.

I actually just finished an AU that provides a happy ending for Jane over here and a number of my Jane fics build off of that happy ending. This is what I'm hoping to end up doing with Jane in Milliways as I love her canon but the ending hurts.

William's a tricky one for AUs, because his canon depends on lots of small moments and when one thing changes, a lot does. For him, I tend to wonder about other settings such as the Indiana Jones' type fusion with Percy Jackson that I will write someday. In that I move him up a few decades and give him a chance for an education with complications, but its hard as I still try to keep his story the same.

Sameth is another hard one for AUs, because his world and canon is so specific. I have a modern AU that I don't know if I'll ever finish for him and a fusion sort of AU of him in the Hunger Games, which is not happy. The shape of his canon does what it needs to do for him, but thanks to Milliways, his future will be kind of AU due to Kait.

Demeter doesn't have any sort of modern storytelling within her original canon, so how I'm playing her could be considered an AU.

Moist is one that at the moment his canon is his current future and I haven't decided how I want to deal with it yet, and might end up having some AU. Not changing the entire story, but more some of the story choices particularly the romance. One reason I'm putting off canon is that once I get him into it, there's not as much space to play. He's a character that could fit easily into other worlds due to his personality and yet he's also very much a Discworld character.

Tumnus, I wouldn't know where to start on AUs as his story is his and Narnia's and its something I really haven't thought about.

The Pirate King as well is so tightly connected to his operetta that while I can see divergences that might be interesting, they're not something I care to investigate.

As you can see, I love talking about AUs though I find them hard.

On AO3, the XM:FC fandom seems to be the one with All The AUs; fanfic writers seem to be in some kind of informal and friendly competition as to who can come up with the strangest AU while still making the characters work. Among those I know, that might be the Moomin AU...

But that's all crack, more or less, and not serious fix-it fics, which are mostly repetitive.

Kirk doesn't die in the future. In fact, Generations doesn't happen and we skip to First Contact. Instead, Kirk does go looking for Scotty, and eventually dies in battle during the (ill-defined) Tomed Incident with the Romulans.

Charlie also doesn't die. He gets to find a DC Comics miracle cure and take turns being the Question with Renee, who still gets to be awesome. He then becomes the unwanted ombudsman for the DC heroes, doing his best to keep them honest as an outsider (but not an Outsider).

So, it... may already exist. *eyedarts* Basically, everything is better with werewolves.

Though there's also the modern AU where Kate is a popular and influential blogger and Harry got some well-meaning but ill-advised tattoos to impress her during uni, and asljdfhlkajsdf, that one's pretty fun too.

I would totally be open to other AU proposals, though!

Ray already lives in a canonical AU from mainline Ghostbusters continuity. Ghostbusters: Legion takes the events of the first movie and punts them forward about twenty years. I've just built the rest of his world as a gigantic AU with that as its foundation, and I'm good with that.

Somewhere in the back of my head is a Team Fortress 2 AU where the endless battles and insanity that is TF2 canon are brought to a screeching halt when Chell discovers a room deep in the belly of Aperture that happens to house nine 'relaxation chambers'. GLaDOS has been running a battlefield simulation for a very, very, very long time, recording the behavioral data from the humans, using it to program their electronic counterparts, and then running the humans against their digital selves- day after day after day after day after day. Periodically she'd flip one or more guys to the other team and see how well the humans did when their compatriots were purely simulated. Needless to say, when Chell finally releases the test subjects, they have some serious issues to deal with on top of the whole 'escape from the psychotic supercomputer' thing...

Not sure about AUs for my other pups but hell, if anyone wants, Gordon, Adrian, Ellen, Varric, Mordin, and Hektor are listening. Santo's fine with the world he's got.

In a perfect AU, Tommy would marry Kate Barlow and they would live happily ever after, SO THERE. :|

But since his canon prevents him from being able to do this (marrying, being happy, etc.), I'll just have to imagine a world where Kate becomes lovingly integrated into the Gavin clan of insanity, and Tommy learns how to be a decent husband.

In an AU that would make more sense than actual canon, Danny and Steve would get married and spend their lives chasing bad guys and being the world's most awesome dad/step-dad combo to Danny's daughter, Grace.

This would not actually significantly change the show at all.

A favorite AU of mine is a near future Hank McCoy who's raising a very young Kurt Wagner for Mystique as she knows she can not care for Kurt safely. She still visits from time to time but mostly is an absent mother, what with being a know terrorist.

I've also played with a "everything goes wrong" AU which was set a year after XM:FC (post-Kennedy assassination) wherein Charles and Erik were seemingly assassinated and mutants hunted.

There's also one I have in mind where Mystique said,
"Hey Beast, come with us" instead of, "Hey, Beast, remember 'mutant and proud'".

There is so much Arthurian legend out there that Lohengrin's canon COULD be called AU. In a lot of versions of the story, Parsifal/Percival is a virgin, so Lohengrin wouldn't even exist in those. I've concluded that this makes him and Tristan quantum half-siblings, as Tristan's mother is called Blanchefleur and the only woman Parsifal is ever associated with romantically is also called Blanchefleur. On top of that, there are alternate versions of Lohengrin's canon. In the opera, he and Elsa are only together for a few days before she asks the infamous question. But in other versions of the story, she holds out for years, long enough for them to have children. And to be honest, I don't know if Elsa dies in every version of the story, either. It just made sense to go with opera canon since Princess Tutu uses music from the opera.

So I guess the ideal AU for Lohengrin would be picking and choosing the best parts out of these stories, letting him live through the fight with the Raven, and reuniting him with his family.

But that's only if you're asking him right now.

This does not exist in any alternate universe anywhere. Sorry, Lohengrin!

I'm still pretty pleased with the alternate life Joan Holloway is now living out in Twin Peaks with her sheriff. :D

Actually, I love the majority of the cracky alternate worlds I've helped my pups have. Saffron wouldn't have nearly as many of the personal relationships she has (or be a fox spirit, what, I keep forgetting to do more with that) if it wasn't for Milliways. And do I even need to acknowledge the angsty amazing badassery that is Kate Beckett and Jack Bauer? Raven and Hank have gotten into some great post-canon AU shenanigans with their grown-up counterparts. And Reese got to spend some much-needed vacation with a good-looking U.S. marshal out in Kentucky.

BASICALLY all this comment tells me is that I'm always game for AUs, so people should just come at me with ideas, bro.

Raph wants a Milliways that Abigail can get to.

Mike's wonderful world would have everyone one he knows in it...so really just Milliways again.

Splinter...I don't know what kind of world Splinter would want at this point.

Aang wants his people back, but doesn't want to have to give up his friends in the process. Or...be a 112 year old man. Monkeyfeathers.

Bumi harbors no ill will against Korra, but if he could have his father back that'd be really REALLY nice, thanks.

Lady Mary would inherit her father's title and money upon his death, becoming Countess of Grantham in her own right. Somewhere along the way she'd find a trophy husband.

Or... later in canon. ~Spoiler~ would not have happened in the Christmas special. (If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about.)

Carol would live in a world where her alcoholism never happened and she never let her friends down. Also, supervillains would stop foiling her plans to fly a lot, hang out with Jess, and mentor girls to grow up and be awesome.

I have long toyed with the idea of making Felix the protagonist in something very like a Rune Factory game. He could farm and beat up monsters and not remember anything from before he showed up in town.

(They say there's no consistent reason that the protags always lose their memories just before the game starts. But it was explicitly enemy action the first time, and as far as I know there's been no explanation since...)

Other ideas are, of course, welcome, for Felix as much as for Kain, Fluttershy, or Cranky.

I don't know about ideal, but I actually wrote/played some of the AU where Ava kills Sam and Jake and becomes Most Likely to Become the Vessel of Lucifer of the Cold Oak class of 2007, annnnd a bit of the one where she becomes a demon and runs around breaking seals.

AUs of Ava I would still be interested in seeing/writing/dreaming:

+ The one where she came to Milliways mid-battle royale and didn't die.
+ The one where she's a Slayer.
+ The one where she's a Hufflepuff with death visions and is constantly irritated at half the population of Hogwarts for their reckless endangerment.

I'm kind of in love with an AU that came to mind recently for M: the James Bond stories in the Harry Potter 'verse, with Bond as an Unspeakable and M as the head of the Department of Mysteries.

Just go ahead and try to convince me that it would not be completely awesome. YOU WILL FAIL.

As for 24...well there's a couple AUs in particular that I can think of, and that will be likely added to the AU-ishness we already have.

I think Sam's canon story is actually about the best it can be. (He'd request his mother not having been raped and then mindfucked into being too confused to tell anyone what happened, but then he... wouldn't exist...) Cata, however, requests an AU where she never got whitewashed.

I've written one of my ideal Claudia AUs (it just so happened to mainly be my Rebecca/Jack fix-it AU); otherwise, I really dislike how the show closed off HG's plotline in S2 and I'm on the fence about the S3 finale/where things stand now. But I have to know how this stuff resolves before I can consider AUing that.

Apollo laughs at the idea.

For Imp, I have toyed with an AU where he ends up at Unseen University, magic and music being closely related on the Disc. But then I get hung up on who has the music with rocks in bug in his place.

Regulus will probably end up with my ideal AU for him in-bar. You know, the one where he doesn't die less than a year out of school and actually gets a chance to change some of the Ministry's problems.

For Red, it's complicated. If she could learn what she needed to learn about the werewolf thing without eating her boyfriend, that would be good, but I'm not sure she'd be as strong of a person out the other side.

In some (many) ways, Alfred's ideal AU, is the one where everyone follows Thomas's lead, and eradicates organized crime from Gotham. Then Thomas doesn't die, and Canon doesn't need to happen. But, you know, apathy and the League of Shadows happen instead...

For Bean? Um, a cure might be nice. Of course, Genetics do not work like that...
Or, the opportunity to actually see the utopia (for a given definition, I'm sure) his handiwork crafted.

For Jack and Max, I'm not sure there is anything I would change, except maybe the *Spoiler Redacted* in book 3. Also, the minor idiot ball of not using Warblers in some situations...

I'm really not sure about anything for Erik. Maybe I'll have some better ideas/more issues with his canon after the next film comes out...

Although, I'm sure I could come up with a good Hogwarts AU for Max in particular, if I put my mind to it. (Heck, his call sign in canon, is Wizard).
