DE: What's inside you?

Funny thing, I almost tried to make this post logged in as the pup that inspired it.

So, what element best describes your pup? Feel free to use the four classic Greek, some Asian system, the Periodic Table, the Mistborn metals, your own, or whatever; just show your work.

Amascut fits the Death rune from the Runescape set of runes. I think the only others who fit in her canon are her brother and Harold Death Esquire. They are the three ~~deities of death, but none of them get along. Death is a complicated thing.

Fixit seems earthy to me with some nature and air thrown in. She builds things, solid, physical things, but out of things that grow mostly and what she builds is often technomagical. And she is stable/stabilizing even in the face of troubling change. Even when there is a coup going on in Zanaris, she keeps on maintaining the fairy ring network and helps ensure the safety of participants on both sides of the conflict when using the network.

Evil Chicken is a windbag. Not in a talkative sense but more in a sound and fury sense.

As much as Joshua would -like- me to use a Periodic Table element, I can't help but say that Joshua is wind.

Wind indicates movement, change, and sometimes just the building blocks of life itself.

Using the Greek elements, with some help from the zodiac:

Oswin: Water, very much so - sympathetic, empathetic, intuitive, but highly sensitive and given to escapism, given her circumstances.

Glorfindel: Ironically, fire - a good leader, extroverted, enthusiastic, passionate, brave, valiant... but also can be hot-tempered and uncontrollable when pissed off.

Haymitch: Air - he is scary-smart, and before the games (and very long afterwards) is very communicative and social... but is vicious as hell for the rest of it.

Katya: Fire - very extroverted and enthusiastic, passionate and brave... and for anyone who isn't Boris Ivanovich (or, to a much lesser degree, Bear or Skellig) uncontrollable, snappy, and angry to the point of forgetting her tactics in a fight.

Annnd I gotta get ready for work - may do the rest later. :D

Felix is, of course, Earth. Moreso now than he's been for a while, which may be saying something. (If he were an Allomancer, he'd probably burn pewter.)

Kain... possibly Radon. Up-aligned means a gas, probably a noble gas for his reticence, likely radioactive as he's somewhat self-destructive... sounds like Radon. (Allomancer!Kain would be a coinshot, no question.)

Fluttershy... Air/Wind is the easy answer, but though she's a pegasus it doesn't seem like the best fit... Golden Sun specifically associates Wind with the mind... Allomantic brass, the external mental pushing metal that Soothes others' emotions. That's Fluttershy. Though she'd probably wish for copper (internal mental pulling, the metal for hiding) instead.

I'm not very sure about Cranky. Possibly Feruchemical duralumin.

Edit: My potentials, without naming names, are steel (as in trap) and Feruchemical copper. Though the latter may be cheating.

Gordon, I think, is Fire. Given that for the length of his canon I'd associated him with Siva, it was more or less inevitable.

Adrian doesn't fit the western four-element system, I don't think; he's ether Metal or Earth by temperament in the Chinese system. He wants Metal, I know that much.

Ellen is giving me an absolutely filthy look for suggesting that her element ought to be Mendelevium. (101.)

But seriously, X is adamantium, there is no way around it. She will not be moved and cannot be destroyed.

Nynaeve is steel. It's what she's got in her spine.

Dean is the highway. I feel this is fundamental.

Raven is Fire.

Galadan is winter. It's kind of his whole philosophy.

Diana is water. I'd say the fire of Truth but canon already went there.

Michael is aether. It comes with the territory.

Sam Tyler is also copper. *sage*

Metallic antimony, a blueish-white metal meaning "not found alone." It is a poor heat or electrical conductor, which burns brilliantly when heated. While antimony is extremely brittle by itself, it is widely used in alloying to increase hardness and mechanical strength. The metal and many of its compounds are toxic.

Idek even know what Atton is. Fire, maybe? Anyone who has a better idea, suggestions on a postcard.

Yugo/Phoenix and Priest-Leo are both fire, and that's canonical for both of them. Yugo in particular has a phoenix living inside of him, and Leo is frequently associated with magical fire in canon, to the point where I don't think he ever uses anything else for anything, including stuff like 'sending messages'.

In Yugo's case, he and Phoenix are different types of fire: Yugo is kind of a controlled, warm, not-too-hot-but-enough-to-keep-you-toasty fire, like a campfire or a hearth. Phoenix is a wildfire - see this gif.

PriestLeo is also a 'controlled campfire' type, generally.

Teddy is earth. He's grounded, and blunt, and fairly unshakeable, and he's (ironically) fairly unchanging and solid.

Leonardo is air. This, too, is pretty much canon: Leonardo associates Leo with birds and flying a lot. Also, he's smart, a little flighty, a little prone to obsession (ha! 'A little'. I slay me) and generally doesn't stop moving or thinking ever.

up too late, cannot think...

Henry I am associating with wood for no clearly defined reason. Maybe someone else can figure it out for me.

Lois: Probably 'fire'--passion and warmth, dynamic nature, 'for the love of all things holy do not get in her way.' An argument could be made for air: dynamic, her flying fetish, quick humor, unpredictability. But the volatility, the fact that she can be a bit overwhelming and/or dangerous in large doses-- hey guys, I think she might be oxygen! (Quoth my roommate: 'And that's terrible.')

Tavi: I have pros and cons for several different ones. 'Canon justification for set-of-six' is cheating. Help?

Aang: I know he reminds me of an element, but...I can't for the life of me remember which one. I'll have to get back to you.

Bumi: Mercury. It's a metal that flows and moves like a metal shouldn't, and can make you crazy if you spend too much time in contact with it.

Raph: Earth, in the Avatar sense of it. Raph is stubborn and strong.

Mike: Krypton, for no other reason than it's the one he'd choose based solely on its name. "Dude, who wouldn't want to be Krypton?! Before it blew up it was awesome there!"

Splinter: Wood. ...what? His name is SPLINTER! Come on, people. Work with me here.

Ida: Silicon, what with her being a robot and all.

The Loompas: Chocolate. It's totally on the periodic table. Check again.

Sunshine's canonical elemental affinity is... sunlight. Surprising, no? It's described in canon as something like fire, something like air, and something like neither. Her element carries with it the forces of daylight (and by extension in her world slipping into darkness, the forces of Good) which lead her to be the typical Leo: creative and dramatic, warm and enthusiastic, dynamic and idealistic, but also with the capacity to be prideful and stubborn.

Yrael's element is surprise mercury, because his mood and intent and allegiance can change with very little warning and with very little provocation. He is also eloquent, a creative and an intuitive learner, and is an unabashed thief, which puts him in line with the god Mercury, as well.

Zelgadiss' element is earth. When he sets his mind on a goal, nothing will shake him from his path. He may look solid, but underneath is all boiling magma and turmoil - and when angry he's going to cause some damage. ^_^

Guys, my desk is out in the hallway for conferences and teachers keep wondering why I'm not in the library. There's a weird but kind of fun vibe as conferences are a way to hang out together and connect as well as talking with parents. I'm incredibly grateful that this time, I've got a chance to be visible as this is an important event for the school.

Also a student is raising money to buy textbooks for the library, which I've wanted to do but haven't been able to. I actually feel like I fit and my car got a very clean bill of health and only one added service. Now I'll be at my desk until between 7 or 9 depending on when I feel that it makes sense to leave.

In terms of the question, I really enjoy it as I think its a great way to look at characters. I think I'm going to use the Chinese element break down. Though I'm always curious what everyone else thinks might fit them in other breakdowns.

Will is I think a mixture of Wood and Fire. Wood for his steadfastness and Fire for his passion.

Charles is water in a lot of ways and in particular Still Water. This description is perfectly him: Still Water makes people calm and peaceful.

Moist is also water but a different aspect of it: Floating Water makes people active and restless and feel like traveling.

Sameth fits the description for metal with its mix of being strong and sensitive though he's not ambitious. This sounds like him: Metal-type people are righteous, faithful, gallant and chivalrous. They like to know and help people.

Jane is Wood for how she's determined and always reaching upward. I love this quote: They are perfectionists who tend to push themselves to the limit and seek out the best, and take first place in competition.

William is another mixture of Fire and I think Earth, he's a little trickier but the quotes that fit him are: Fire people are energetic, artistic, passionate, easily excitable, and have a tendency to rapidly change emotional states as well as become aggressive. Most Earth-type people are trustful, steady, loyal and responsible.

Demeter is weird for this as she's a goddess who has her own connections, but she is Earth in about as many ways as you can be Earth.

Tumnus is another Earth one since he's at heart a homebody and puts Narnia above all else.

The Pirate King is Fire especially this quote: They love sensation, drama and sentiment. They seek joy, gratification and the attention of others.

At one point I came up with a Homestuck troll version of Thurlow and I needed a symbol for them, so I went and looked at alchemical symbols and got onto the ones for elements. I went with magnesium because, as well as having a cool-looking symbol (which was my first priority at the time), it has a lot of practical uses, befitting their jack-of-all-tradesiness, and yet it also fits their unstable and short-tempered personality by being quite easy to catch on fire and blow up.

On the off-chance that anyone cares how that turned out, troll!Thurlow is a jadeblood, because of the spooky vampire stuff.
