"Well, no, I don't expect a place that you can't navigate to save your life to be all that sane. But this is past getting ridiculous."
She sighs. "I don't know how many details you'd want, but... basically, people are being even more of assholes than usual."

"It's... almost refreshing to know that the place doesn't change in the future." Helena smooths out her skirt and slides into the booth across from the woman. "That is never good, darling, as people can find so many ways to be awful to each other."

"I just hope my friend'll be able to get out of town and come visit after all. I think she needs the weekend out. But the latest shenanigans are so bad they've locked down at least part of town, and I don't know how far into the parts that're technically other towns that extends."
Boston, why so confuse.

"Oh, my. Your friend needs to find a better place to live than Boston, my dear." Helena looks concerned. "What in the world has happened that they have locked Bostonn down? Is America having another revolution?"

"No, just assholes. In this case, one of them got his hands on a car, from what little I know."
She hasn't exactly been seeking out news, but the photos going around of Boston with no traffic? Creepy.
"I don't know if they would've locked down without the rest of the week or not, but."

"What in the world is a car?" Helena might be up on technology, but not on slang.

[minkhollow]

"Automobile? Horseless carriage?" She'll recognise one of the two, most likely, as the concept was certainly around in the 1890s.
(Even if it was more 'the only two autos in Ohio hit each other' than anything.)

"Oh. I have never heard that particular word used." Helena thinks for a moment. "The future must be a fascinating place."

"...From your perspective, probably. From mine it's pretty normal."
Which isn't to say she doesn't respect the work that went into making it, or the difference between now and even when she was little.

"Well, that would make sense as you're living it, darling." She flashes her shining smile. "I would assume from your clothing that quite a lot has changed from my time."

[minkhollow]

That gets a grin in return. "Juuuust a little."
Even Helena's imagination hasn't come up with all of it. Cough cough Post-its.

"Oh, but you exaggerate, my dear." She smirks a bit. "Do tell about some of the things that have changed." She leans forward, chin in her hands.

[minkhollow]

"It's not that much of an exaggeration."
There's a pause as she considers where to start. "Well, Africa's completely decolonised. So is India. We've picked up a few more states - none in my lifetime, but Puerto Rico really wants into the club now, so that might change."

[...Um. Speaking as a Bostonian, this entire conversation is maybe not the best way to be framing this, I have to say? I'm not trying to tell anyone how to process events, and I know they're on a lot of people's minds, but personally, it's putting my back up.]
