Now I need to decide who to pick as my list is long. ; p

The one I was most strongly tempted to app was Mary Russell. I quickly realized that this was a TERRIBLE idea, as she is an Oxford-trained theologian and I am not and it is not exactly a topic which could be eternally skirted in Milliways, not that she would even if I wanted her to.

Henry V, from history/Shakespeare (mostly the Shakespearian one), because I don't think I'd be able to sustain iambic pentameter for any length of time.

Vince Noir, Noel Fielding's character from The Mighty Boosh, because I know I'd never be able to sustain that level of crackiness. Crack characters are tough. (For me they are, anyway.)

And Smaug, from The Hobbit--because how would you play a dragon in Milliways? Other than as a specific plot, I don't see it...

Ah ha ha. Oh boy.

Dr. Marc C. Dusqueen - Grand Central Arena - Couldn't actually fit Milliways into his universe. At all.
Remo Williams - Destroy Series - Excess of options really. The books went on a long time. And I don't own the movie. So.
Lots and lots of pups I haven't managed to write apps for.
Marika Kato - Bodacious Space Pirates
Nick Bennett - Heist Society Novels
Rio Rollins - Rio ~Rainbow Gate~
Perry White - 1940s Superman Cartoons (He's new, there's still hope there!)

Hamlet. Henry V: no to both because of the effort I'd have to put in with the language.
Tyler Durden/Narrator from Fight Club because I couldn't figure out how to make it work realistically.

There have been multitudes of others over the years, but I can't remember the reasons why I didn't go for them in the end. Or who they were, which indicates I made the right choice in not doing it.

Recently - Javert from Les Mis, and John Harrison from the new Trek film. The temptation is strong for both, but I'm really trying to cut my pup list down to bare bones at the moment, so it would be stupid to add to it.

ETA: Oh, and Tyrion Lannister from GoT, but I haven't read the books yet. Plus, I wasn't sure if we already had one, or not.

Ooh, lots and lots of people. Kopaka of Lego Bionicle fame comes to mind; the main deciding factor there was that I don't have ready access to most of his canon. (I decided long ago that I wouldn't play anyone unless I could get to any given part of their canon easily. Felix is a minor exception, in that I can't always devote hours to a playthrough; I do, however, have considerable knowledge of the games, and I know where wikis and let's plays and game scripts are.)

The most recent is Fix-It Felix, Jr. He just doesn't seem to fit my headspace very well.

Ellen Ripley, from Alien(s).

Daenerys Targaryen, from A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones.

Paksenarrion Dorthansdotter, from The Deed of Paksenarrion.

Why is a combination of timing and not having a story that I was compelled to bring them to the end of the universe to tell.

Tara Chace, because she's awesome. No, because she really wouldn't ICly go off and have adventures in other people's worlds. Nor could she, legally, talk about her work. All she would do is sit in the bar, drink, smoke, shag anyone who was willing, and glare at James Bond.

Hope Blackwell from A Girl and Her Fed -no, because I'm not all that interested without a Pat or a Ben to play off.

Jubilation Lee from Amalgam comics - and just as I write this out I realize how much X/Bruce would amuse the heck out of her.

John Roxton from The Lost World - we had one from a different canon for a while and I wasn't that interested in having two in the bar at once.

Astrid, from How to Train Your Dragon - honestly, the biggest thing stopping me is I have too many characters right now.

Most recently Anne Eliot from Persuasion.

Also Canton Everett Delaware III from Doctor Who and Tommy Brockless from Torchwood.

Several more as well, but those are the ones that are still on my muse list. (And most of the others I've wanted to I haven't because we already had one.)

I've never had any get to the point of apping or journal creation but there are a few I keep wondering about trying.

Eowyn from Lord of the Rings but I don't feel I know canon well enough. She's the only one in this list that I ever created a journal for but she didn't stick.

Ivan Vorpatril from the Vorkosigan books-I think I could pull him off but the voice has never gone, hello, time to write me.

Conrad from Conrad's Fate of the Chrestomanci books, he's very much my type of character but again the voice has never appeared and gone, time to write me.

Wart/Arthur from The Once and Future King, I don't know Arthurian canon well enough.

Kit Cloudkicker from TaleSpin, I don't know how well he could work in Milliways but he's one of my favorite characters.

Dick Grayson from Batman: The Animated Series, the show where I fell in love with Batman and Robin but others know DC far, far better than I do.

Though as I look over this list, I realize that I should try writing some fic with these characters since I'm more comfortable doing that then RPing them.

Um.

Potentially a long list. I'm not sure if I can remember them all, so here's a selection based on who's coming to mind right now:

Tywin Lannister, A Song of Ice and Fire.
J, Bloody Monday.
Legion, Mass Effect.
Captain Marvelous, Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger.
Red Rider, Accel World.
Kyubey, Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
Ramiel, Mythology.
Date Akira, Kamen Rider OOO.
Dante Sparda, DmC (reboot)
Lenny Lyons, Casualty
Deadpool, Marvel Comics.

For most of these, the headvoice just faded. A few of them have more specific reasons - I don't think I could play Date without his boyfriend also being around; Red Rider got subsumed into Yugo, as they are in fact the exact same character created by different people for different canons with no influence on each other; Legion and Ramiel are still possibilities, but on hold for the moment, etc.

Victoria from 'Red' - not apped both because I don't think I can get in the same ballpark as Helen Mirren, and I'm trying to cut down on my tendency to app severely vicious ladies.

Detective Jane Timoney from the US version of 'Prime Suspect' - oh lord, I loved that show, I love that character and I adore that hat. But she would have absolutely no patience for Milliways, and would probably end up threatening to rough someone up to get answers, and then there would be run-ins with security, and there's no way she'd take kindly to that, and didn't I say I was trying to not take on the violent females? OMG I have a type. It's a type that comes armed.

Prince Imarhil from 'LotR' - while I'm sure he'd love some time off from, y'know, end of the world and Mordor hanging over his shoulder and the Corsairs and all of it, he's too freaking responsible to take the chance that's offered until it's all over.

There are others, but I'm flying Southwest today, and I can see the cattle-call lines starting to form. Also: To the place I bought a salad from, raisin bread should really not be used to make croutons for a ceasar salad. Augh.

Daria Morgendorffer, Daria: Wasn't sure I could pull her off, so I apped Jane instead. (Another consideration: I thought Jane was more likely to actually talk to other people if left to her own devices, whereas Daria possibly wouldn't without Jane to poke her into it.)

Oblio, The Point: I can't picture anything beyond "Is this still the Pointless Forest?"

Blackmail, Villains By Necessity: Cata was dubious about sharing headspace with him, for Reasons. And then I apped Sam instead, and having three characters from the same canon struck me as a bit excessive.

Beverly, St Trinian's: Not consistent enough. Besides, most of what she'd do is fall sleep at a table and sell pills.

Rebecca St. Clair, Warehouse 13: Still on the table, actually. I ported her journal over from LJ and everything. But she refuses to budge without Jack (not that I can blame her), so I need someone to play him first.

There are ... quite a few. But then I've been playing here for a hell of a long time.

Will Parry (His Dark Materials), once he was free from the cast-list. But this character means so so so much to me that I've always chickened out last minute from apping him. :3 I still think about it though.

Merlin from Merlin and/or Morgana from Merlin ... both characters are seriously intriguing ...! But I had already reached my pup limit at the time, so.

Jason Grace from Heroes of Olympus. I still consider him from time to time, but ... I felt kind of weird playing so many pups from the same universe. (I've played Annabeth, Nico, Percy, Sally, Silena ...)

Jack Skellington from Nightmare Before Christmas was one I've considered and reconsidered many times. But again, this character means a lot to me, and I feel like I don't really have anything more to add to Jack's story to keep him around for long.

Deryn Sharp from the Leviathan series. SHE IS SO AMAZING, I feel like I couldn't really give her character justice through my writing. It's more of an intimidation thing. I've sandboxed her with great enjoyment at one point, though. So, maybe.

Karou from Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Because she's amazing, too. But also, I think, taken from the cast list? Also, I'm not sure her headvoice would be strong enough for me to actually app her.

Jace Wayland from The Mortal Instruments series. I have my issues with the series but damn if I don't love this character SO MUCH. That said, I've played him in other games which is why I hesitated to app him into MWays. Of course, now that I've dropped every other game but Milliways, he's definitely an option.

Aaaand Peter Pevensie from The Chronicles of Narnia. It's not that I'm hesitating on his app, per se, but more like every time app-time rolls around, I always find myself ridiculously busy. So I haven't had a chance to actually get around to writing the app yet!

I've only had a couple that have always been around that I haven't apped.

Shawn Spencer has been bopping around my head since the pilot of Psych, but he never really wanted to go anywhere, just snark in my head.

Ned Henry or Verity Kindle from To Say Nothing of the Dog. I couldn't do one of them without the other, and they've never been really all that noisy.

Diana Goodman from Next to Normal. She'd be kinda hard because of her hallucinations of Gabe.

and for some crack: Godot from Waiting for Godot. I'd do it as a crack-character. Post: Godot is not in the bar. You might feel like you're waiting for something. Or not. At least, you can thread here.

Also, in re-app land: Valentine Wiggin. I miss her so, and I'd really like to explore another aspect of her life, as in bring her in age ten or so.

Toby from Seanan McGuire's October Daye books: mostly because of intimidation to take on all the fairy mythology I guess.

Lessee, just off the top of my head:

Raz from Psychonauts - I realized that what appeals to me isn't Raz himself, but the psychic landscapes he can visit, which would make him hard to play.

Daniel from Amnesia: the Dark Descent - Given how dark the game is and how insane Daniel is, playing him would not be good for my mental health.

Wheatley from Portal 2 - Try as I might I will never be even a tenth as funny as Stephen Merchant.

Mr. Pink from Reservoir Dogs
Carl Showalter from Fargo
Randall Boggs from Monsters Inc.
Templeton from Charlotte's Web
Nucky Thompson from Boardwalk Empire

Do you sense a pattern here? I SURE DON'T. *shifty eyes*

I've thrown a couple of them into some sandboxes before but I never really found the time or the headspace to develop them further.

I once wanted to app Manny Bianco from Black Books, but at the time I think there was a Bernard Black in the bar but the mun was no longer playing? Instead I popped Manny into a sandbox with Lexie playing Bernard, and we had a pretty good time.

And basically I want to play all the Rescue Me characters (like Black Shawn and Chief Needles Nelson, who come in during S4), but two really is enough, even though I love playing Tommy's sister Maggie in the sandbox.

ETA: Forgot to add Mike Watt from Spaced, but he needed a Tim Bisley to be complete. That's the problem with wanting to play certain sidekicks with no partner, because they'll just be lonely without them and it's just not as fun.

1. CIAPHAS CAIN, HERO OF THE IMPERIUM, and
2. Ferrik Jurgen, his faithful adjutant and filthiest, smelliest soldier in the entire Imperium of Man. Basically haven't apped Cain because I don't feel up to doing anything with Warhammer 40k in the Bar, and I haven't apped Jurgen because of that and because Jurgen is such a powerful psychic/magic/supernatural nullifier just by his very existence that the Bar would stop working and possibly start to unravel in his vicinity. Also I meant it about him being the smelliest soldier in the Imperium of Man- and the Imperium has a population numbered in the trillions. YOU DO NOT WANT THIS SMELL IN THE BAR.

3. Roger Maxson, founder of the Brotherhood of Steel. I love Roger as a character but enough people have gotten to know the Fallout universe by now that if he came in pre-War, there's a good chance the timeline would get seriously changed, and if he came in afterwards it'd just be weird trying to keep his stuff separate from Ellen's stuff.

4. Kratos of Sparta. Haven't actually played the God of War games. Have periodically considered how the guy would react to a place like M'ways. Trying to figure out what "didn't I just stab your ass six ways from Sunday?" sounds like coming from his canon's dialog style would just give me a headache.

5. Teki or Jan, from Meredith Ann Pierce's Birth of the Firebringer books. Unicorns of a sort you don't generally see in fantasy, but Teki has never interacted with a human in his life and Jan only does so in one book of three. Theirs is not a world that invites much interaction with outsiders, and post-canon all the conflicts have been resolved and a prophesied golden age has come around, so there's not that much else to do with them.

6. Erin, the black girl from the islanders of the Sea-of-Dust, from Meredith Ann Pierce's Darkangel books. It's a fantasy setting in which Earthlings with scientific sorcery colonized the Moon long, long ago and turned it habitable, but things started going downhill after a certain point, and by now the natives of the Moon no longer remember Earth's people as anything but the Ancient Ones to whom they occasionally pray. The world is full of magic and symbolism, in no small part because Pierce got her idea for the books from a case study of one of Carl Jung's patients. It's probably the only vampire novel series I have actually read and really liked, and the world is so very exotic and unusual that I wish I could introduce it to people, but it really wouldn't interact well with people from outside the setting either. (Side note: when I say Erin is black, I don't mean 'of African ancestry'. The people who colonized the Moon gengineered all the lifeforms there, including different kinds of people. Skin colors mentioned in the book include mauve, blue, cinnamon, rose, and golden, with a few cases of magically unnatural white; mauve people tend to have green hair, and when they get sunburned they turn pale and their hair goes yellow. Erin's skin is the color of the dark between the stars.)

7. Constable Kiseki Fuse, from Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade. Essentially, his story is a fantastically perfect tragedy, and the only way to improve his story through interaction with Milliways would be to somehow bring about a complete and total rewriting of everything about his world and the society he lives in, and I'm really not prepared to do that.

8. Doctor Adoullah Makhslood, last of the ghul-slayers, from Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed. I loved the book and I loved the character- you don't often see a fantasy novel where a fat old guy in a robe is the hero- but part of what made the book and the character appealing to me was the serious difference in culture and assumptions and tropes and more or less everything, because this is a fantasy universe built on top of Arabic fantasy expectations, not European ones. I have not apped him because I have never been able to attempt a sandbox thread with him without feeling like I was committing huge amounts of White Chick Appropriation.

I just finished reading Throne of the Crescent Moon and I was actually surprised how many of the tropes felt familiar. It was a good book, but I think I might have set my expectations too high for it.

Though it did remind me a lot of Dragonsbane which also played with tropes. I don't know, I liked it but I think high fantasy isn't my favorite fantasy genre either.

Ramona Flowers, Scott Pilgrim. But she's too normal for me, and I'm not really sure what I'd do with her, even though I do like her a lot and think she'd be fun to play. She may be someone I'm more inclined to throw in a sandbox on occasion.

Cinna, The Hunger Games. But for me it's too difficult to reconcile what he does with... being a person in the Bar setting, even if he's definitely on the sympathetic side of things. And because I've found that to play with THG material, I have to go somewhat AU just to make it work in my head.

Bennett Halverson, Madeleine Costly/November, and Priya Tsetsang/Sierra from Dollhouse. But Bennett has similar issues to Cinna (except she's unrepentant), and I just lost the kind of necessary interest with November. Priya, however, is one I'm still considering, and have tried to work out the logistical issues with, though I also feel like I have enough characters I don't play as often as I should.

Daenerys Targaryen, Game of Thrones. But I have no interest in reading the books.

Michiru Kaioh/Sailor Neptune, Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon. But I think she's another that might be better for a sandbox or something, and I think I'd need a Haruka.

Selina Kyle, The Dark Knight Rises. But "amoral lady who beats people up and stuff!!!!!!!" isn't a good enough reason to app someone, self.

Nyota Uhura, Star Trek (new version!). But she's also too normal for me. I'm sort of curious to see whether the sequel gives me any other ideas, but I'm afraid I will also then in turn be tempted to AU the hell out of it, too.

Randomest character: Rebecca from that episode of So Weird. But it would be logistically impossible.

Four characters for whom I've never even created journals, in whose case it came down to not having enough brainmeats to spare for them:

1+2) Issa, Snake-God of the Nyissans, and Nedra, Lion-God of the Tolnedrans, from David (and Leigh) Eddings' The Lives of Belgarion the Great.
3) Kimball Kinnison, Galactic Coordinator, from E.E. "Doc" Smith's Lensman series.
