Proposed plot: Halloween in June?

Meet the creepy doll. No, the poor thing doesn't have a ruined eye nor a tattered dress but it does have spider legs! It also wants to follow you around. 

So what's the plot? Well, it's pretty simple. I propose that either the second or third week in June, Anton Gorodetsky will come in from the close of a case. He will be followed in by the creepy doll (which happens to be the creation of the witch he just busted). It will immediately hide and stay hidden with occasional spottings until it finds its way to the Lost and Found box where it finds other lost and broken toys. The doll will then infect the other toys with its curse, bringing them to life with the sole purpose of causing fear. A few days later Anton will return and likely attempt to contact Katya to help him find the doll and put an end to the infestation, wrapping the plot up by that Friday.

Points of interest:
This is entirely voluntary.

The doll is made of plastic and is a sort of golem for lack of a better term. It was created to generate fear to fuel the witch's magic. It cannot cause any physical harm...well maybe scratches but nothing more. It is designed more as a creepy, scurrying horror than a harmful one. The same will be true of any toys it infects. This is a curse and will feel/read like dark magic for those who can tell.

If you want to take part in the plot, feel free to write in the doll as you wish. If you would rather a "drive by" tag, feel free to leave a note at the doll's journal and I will tag the linked text. My availability is likely to be limited, so keep this in mind when requesting tags by the creepy doll. If you want a specific toy infected (such as the dolls head with tinker toy legs from Toy Story), leave a note in the doll's journal and I will add an icon.

No one will have any fear or energy drained by the creepy doll. The witch was the one who would have done the draining.

Feel free to have your pups destroy infected toys if you wish, I only ask that Anton & Katya (maybe even Olga if the old bird is around ; p ) take care of the creepy doll themselves.

ETA: The doll will not have its own EPs nor will it tag anyone who does not request a tag.

YAY. She might actually try to neutralize it as well. Which... actually begs the question. Would it respond as an Artifact? Artifacts aren't magic in W13 canon, it's... well, actually no one actually knows what they are, but Joshua's theory is that it's more scientific in some strange way.

Yes as many dolls, action figures or altered toys as folks feel like creating/playing with. Only stipulation is they need to be somehow creepy to fill the protocols of the original spell.

As creepy as you would like to make it. It can be majorly, Hanibal creepy for Artur and then Beetlejuice creepy for someone else. The idea is for you guys to run with it, just don't force your level of creepy on an unwilling player.

There's always cut text with trigger warnings if you want to go off the rails in an EP. I think that is OK to do. If you want to be safe, you could also do the crazy stuff in your pup's journal and link.

Just remember the dolls themselves can't do much damage.

Given that it's the witch rather than the doll who does the fear-draining, does it have anything supernatural about it other than the fact that it's animated? I mean, is it creepy because it's got a fear-inducing creepy aura, or is it animated by magic that someone sensitive to such things would find inherently dark/fear-associated/etc, or is it just creepy because it's a scuttling spider-legged doll and most humans find that freaky?

I ask because I have a couple of characters who don't necessarily have normal human reactions to things, but do have magical senses.

Oh good questions! I would say it does not have magical means to create fear aside from being animated. Creating fear with a direct use of magic is an obvious breach of the Treaty from canon.

Okay cool! In that case, because I don't know canon -- is the witch's magic inherently dark magic in some detectable way? Or is it just neutral magic that's evil because of how it's used, but doesn't have any kind of eeeeeevil 'flavor' to the spell?

It is in fact dark magic! For the value of dark in Eastern/Russian cultural Light vs Dark. Dark Others value personal freedom and quick bursts of power. Think Slytherin if I'm still not being clear enough. = ]

In which case, Thor may or may not be vaguely suspicious but uh probably not; possibly it'll make him distantly nostalgic for his creepy Slytherin prank-loving brother, really. Clare will be highly suspicious, monitor any dolls' auras closely, and possibly destroy one or more if she thinks they're being aggressive or otherwise need extermination.

I'm fine with any of mine encountering them, although I don't know how much I'll be around to have them do so.

Clare is basically like, "There are all these things with demon auras who aren't trying to eat people's guts or anything, they just hold conversation, so I... maybe don't need to kill them...? UNLESS THEY SHOW THEIR TRUE COLORS AND TRY TO HARM HUMANS. THEN THEY CAN DIE." Or to harm Teresa in theory, but uh Teresa can take care of herself better than Clare can, so it's hard to imagine any threat lasting long enough for Clare to do anything about it. Or to harm Clare, although mostly because if anything is trying to harm her it's clearly something dangerous that needs to be taken down on general principles.

But if Teresa wants a doll-spider pet, sure! Clare will bemusedly and earnestly do her best to facilitate this in any way needed! (It will be hilarious.)

I think I like the idea of infected staying enchanted past the life of the creepy doll. Leaves things nice and open ended. I think I would prefer only the creepy dool can infect others though, just to keep the infection contained.

Well I'd probably not throw anyone younger than Almanzo at it, since Guppy's kids are a little bit too young to distinguish between magic infected toys and normal ones. And Guppy has enough to blame on television when his kids blurt stuff out at school as it is.
