DE: Not Again

Do you ever have those days where minor little things keep going wrong? Like you keep dropping things all damn day? What sort of minor inconveniences really get to your pup?

Or conversely, what minor inconvenience would they curse an enemy with?

ETA: Oh, also with this post, the Creepy Doll has officially began infecting other toys so feel free to have them start being seen. With Anton's Happy Hour later today, the infecting will be officially over and the doll and friends loose within the bar.

I'm having one of those weeks right now! Rrrrrrrrgh. :(

Joshua is really annoyed by inconsistant math. He hates when things just don't line up. He also hates when people say that CERN and the Collider are going to end the world. It just doesn't work like that!

Helena is bothered by grammatical errors. Which is even more annoying because grammar has changed slightly since the Victorian era.

Just another reason I love Helena the best.

Helena would like to thank you for that, darling. She does so try to be amusing.

Ahahaha. That's awesome. I might have to dig that up.

Part of what I love about W13 canon is that it implies that a lot of things that Helena wrote about, she actually figured out on her own.

That's pretty cool. The book is fun and does a nice job of emulating a Penny Dreadful narrative but lets go of the Vaudeville before it becomes annoying.

(Being lazy and replying with another pup account. Also, I should be getting back to Helena with Hank later today.)

For Ellen? Itching. She wears armor nearly all the time, except to sleep (and sometimes then, if she's on the road). There hasn't been a suit of power armor or combat armor made yet that would let the wearer scratch an itch in a protected area.
aaaaaaaagh_sky: (power armor)

[personal profile] aaaaaaaagh_sky 2013-06-26 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I admit I didn't really think about that factor for people in armor until the first time I read Starship Troopers. Johnny Rico noted at one point that the Mobile Infantry had three different models of suit, all of them amazingly advanced technology that would allow the wearer to catch an egg in midair without breaking it on their very first armored day and that could augment a man's strength to the point where he could flip a tank over without batting an eye. And that despite all the technology and advances involved, they still couldn't scratch an itch through the damn things.

(As far as itching and Doom go, one wonders whether Doom would be susceptible to Ben casually talking about how sometimes ya get an itch right on the small of your back that ya just can't reach no matter how hard ya try or how far ya stretch. Kind of the way talking about yawning works, yanno?)

Some day I need to read that book. I've heard it is better than the movie.

(And now I feel I need to write an OOM where Ben tries just that trick. Of course he and the family are off world right now.)

[personal profile] aaaaaaaagh_sky 2013-06-26 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
The movie started off as a completely unrelated flick about soldier boys killin' aliens. They bought the rights to the Starship Troopers name because of vague similarities of plot. Verhoeven then turned around and basically tried to use the movie to a) completely satirize, lampoon, or deflate every point Heinlein had been making about military service and citizenship, and b) boobies.

(The military is co-ed in the books, but co-ed naked showers don't happen, kthx. The Mobile Infantry forces are male; women are in the Navy, flying starships and being pilots and things like that. No word on whether women serve in the psychic departments or as partners to the neodogs but it wouldn't surprise me if they did.)

(I may disagree with the book in some regards but I have a fondness for it.)

Nathan can't feel anything. Heat, pain, cold, pressure; anything. It's actually pretty convenient when anyone else would be incapacitated by pain after being shot or injured (shh don't tell Audrey, she gets cranky when he gets hurt), but the rest of the time it's pretty annoying to keep slamming hands in doors or burning his tongue on too-hot coffee because he can't tell it's still scalding.

Star doesn't really have any. Jean find a lot of little things more confusing, but confusion is more quietly tedious than annoying, too.

Marian's is the lack of people believing women can do, be, accomplish anything that isn't being chattle and bearing babies. Edward's isn't minor, but it does happen all the time like dropping things, and that would be people shoving their thoughts in his head, unceasingly.

Jo....missing her mother (and all the resources of The RoadHouse; but mostly her mom). Peeta's is quiet honestly being in love with the girl he kind of hates, because everything rubs it in surprising ways like an accidental burn on your hand when you keep needing to use that hand.

Snow misses the innocent naivette she had once (and the life/family she believed she had when she was). Mary Margaret always feels like she doesn't belong, can't quite pull it together, even in her head, like she forgot something that comes back.

Steve's is vast at time. People, definitely. The 'real world' and Danny's rule book. But most of all the more he learns how little he knows about his life. Audrey just wants people in Haven to open up, dammit. It should not take purchasing the worst pastries in the world as the only way to even know where the good pastry shop is.

Right now I am annoyed at CERN and their documentation of Geant4 (or the thing I have been referring to on twitter as THE UNIVERSE)

I would like to think that Fairy Fixit is annoyed by lack of documentation too, but I would think that she is way more used to it. It wouldn't be called magic if it were well documented.

For Amascut there are cats and all they do, but she is also fairly tired of having to hide who she is and what she can do. Cursewise, Amascut curses people with immortality. It is usually attached with some other curse, so getting on her bad side just to achieve immortality is a bad idea.

*pats Joshua* There there, its not so bad. Though I bet Geant was already installed on your computer by someone who knows all the tricks to it and who can install it blindfolded. But now that I have installed an alternate universe on my laptop, I just have to figure out how to build lead bricks and run particle collision sims on this thing.

Of course you probably know how to do that part blindfolded. Curse the fourth wall!

[personal profile] damncompass 2013-06-26 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I'd be happy to help you if it wasn't for this pesky fourth wall. I wasn't doing actual simulations, just running the data, but at least the version I was using wasn't that bad once someone sat down and explained it.

But then again, so many particle physicists are shit at explaining things.

oops, minor inconveniences. I listed major ones for Amascut. Well no. I suppose the major one about hiding is made up of many minor ones. The curses she adds on to immortality are a mix of major and minor. For instance, how would you feel about this minor annoyance? How soon will it get old? How soon would people lose patience with you if you could only respond to questions? Won't listening to people use a rising inflection every time they speak to you get irritating eventually?
