Substitute DE: Rocks fly and water coils

Since it's halfway through the morning for our East Coast patrons, I'm throwing this up before I head to an offsite meeting. Plus, I get to use my Iroh icon this way.

From [personal profile] death_gone_mad :

If your pup possessed the ability to bend one of the four classical elements (Earth, Water, Air, and Fire) or if your pup wants to be sciency, the four phases of matter (Solids, Liquids, Gases, and Plasma), which would your pup be able to manipulate?

[personal profile] a1enzo 2013-07-18 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably fire, since it's not actually matter but an expression of energy resulting from a chemical reaction.

I mmmmight have a self-indulgent AU going where Gaeta's a pyrokinetic. Maybe. >.> (If only so I can make "Hephaestus" puns to myself.) Personality-wise, though, he might be better suited to earth.

Olivia's canonically a pyrokinetic, albeit a very limited one. Telekinesis means she could also technically be an earthbender or waterbender if she wanted, I guess! Fire seems like a good fit for her, though.

Bolin's already an earthbender and wouldn't have it any other way. :D

The Trickster, with his penchant for illusions and the insubstantial? Definitely air.

Amascut is obviously Fire/Plasma, energetic and ephemeral. Or at least that is how the world should be. It is also her preferred form of magic. Her mass mental manipulation even looks like lightning bending.

Fairy Fixit feels like an Earth/Solid kinda gal to me. Someone reliable and really, someone who works the earth to grow things and build things.
damncompass: Stricking out tongue (Bratty)

[personal profile] damncompass 2013-07-18 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Can Joshua be a Time Bender? If not, he'd probably be plasma, just because the boy likes to be difficult and different.

Helena would totally be Solids, shaping the things around her to make what she wants out of them. Or if we're going really meta: Electricity.

Fantine is probably Air, quietly and subltly changing what's around her, but when she's pissed, there's a storm.
genarti: ([avatar] the boulder is not conflicted!)

[personal profile] genarti 2013-07-18 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Thor: has powers already, which would match to... Fire and/or Air? I could argue either. By personality I guess I'd say Fire, and Mjolnir supplying the Air part of the powers.

River: pun not intended, but Water.

Regan: ...This one's hard. I almost want to say Fire.

Trowa: Air.

Clare: ...Also hard! Prooooobably Water, I guess? None of them match up specifically to her canonical power-specialization, and her personality's kind of hard to match too.

Enjolras: hahahahahaha Fire. Fire ALL THE WAY.
gorgonfondness: (fire and ice)

[personal profile] gorgonfondness 2013-07-18 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahahahaha! Canonwise, Mia has fire AND water (in the form of ice) under her sway. And she honestly can't choose between the two. This is something common to her entire family, even 1000 years later with her descendant Lemina.

Lucas would probably go with earth since that's close to taking care of the flowers.

Lohengrin would want air for the sake of archery.

I realize it's not strictly within the rules and methods as posed in Avatar/Korra, but if one interprets firebending as heat control, then one could totally use firebending to create ice.
gorgonfondness: (fire and ice)

[personal profile] gorgonfondness 2013-07-18 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
True true. What is cold but the absence of heat, after all? But in Lunar's magic rules, ice falls under the realm of water magic.

Carol: Like Thor, her powers line up with Fire/Air. But... AIR! AIR! FREAKING AIR!!! This is a woman completely obsessed with flying, to the detriment of her health. Air!

Mary: Definitely Earth.

Stiles: Hmmm. I could make an argument for either Water or Fire, and Teen Wolf already haphazardly tries to use elements symbolically. Probably Fire. Especially given his canonical habit of, um, burning people.
the_lioness: ([Alanna short] Hand of the Goddess)

[personal profile] the_lioness 2013-07-18 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Alanna: Fire. She pretty much does this anyway with her Gift.

Elizabeth: Water.

Grace: Fire.

Jim: Air.

Doctor Evil: Magma.

Thayet: Earth.

In-canon opinions from those who can tell such things put Sunshine's element somewhere between fire and air, with something of both and something of neither. Her element is Sunlight.

If tied to one of the four classical element, she would certainly be Fire.

MULTIPLE TYPES
Korra AVATAR BABY.

AIR
Mel and Dick/Robin: Air. Screw Mel's actual powers, They are both flyers, fallers, freedom-lovers.
Teresa's special ability is to not be where you're hitting, and she values independence above all.

WATER
Dinah, and Marguerite are flexible, adaptable types, and healer-like in personality. Just forget that Dinah's superpower is actually air-based.

FIRE
Will would burn the world down for Elizabeth. Mac is another fire-type.

EARTH
Renee is grounded and stubborn as hell.

Dr Thurlow would likely be Fire; you could reasonably use 'fiery' to describe their personality, and they canonically work with the Correspondence, which has a tendency to ignite anything remotely flammable nearby.

Aradia seems closest to Air.
never_shall_yield: (Trembles)

[personal profile] never_shall_yield 2013-07-18 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Gene - fire.

Bruce Wayne - hmmm. Unsure.

Bruce Banner - also unsure. Is this based on personality type, or their area of interests?

Javert - earth.

[personal profile] fairy_fixit 2013-07-18 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality is nice and deep and introspective, but area of interest can be interesting. And really, everyone has their own spin on these things so setting rules about it is a bit senseless.

When I think of Bruce Wayne, or Batman really, I think air, since he is always dropping out of the air to land a surprise attack. But then I think... maybe he is like torrent of water; a force to be reckoned with but not something stiff and unyielding, but one that will search out and eventually find a way to make that force be felt.

The Hulk is a ton of rocks falling down, but no idea about Bruce himself

Erik is solids. He likes plasmas, but he's a solid man at heart.

Alfred is water. (Which, inevitably, leads to other drinks).

Max is earth.

Jack, I don't know. In one of these worlds, he'd probably actually be the non-bender. Suggestions welcome. If I had to pick, I think I'd say earth.

Bean either follows Jack as a non-bender, or he's that craziest of things: the patient airbender.

[personal profile] inlovewithwords 2013-07-18 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Henry might do well with earth. Not sure why, it just feels right.

Lois would probably do either air or fire--or maybe plasma.

Tavi just gives this question a wry, amused look.
ceitfianna: (four elements)

[personal profile] ceitfianna 2013-07-18 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Will would be Fire, no question.

Charles would be Air.

Moist would also be Air.

Demeter is Earth.

William would be Earth or Fire.

Jane would be Air or Water.

Sameth is Earth.

Tumnus is Water or Earth.

The Pirate King is Water.

Helena is so totally a fire bender. She has the anger for it.

The minions... all of them. They are like tiny Avatars - or possibly anti-Avatars - causing chaos in all four elements.

Elle's electricity sort of goes with fire, which probably suits her best.

Asami is a non-bender in a canon with bending, and so I'm a little disinclined to answer this, just because it's sort of an inherent part of her identity that she doesn't have this ability. And she's genuinely cool with that - she likes bending, but she also likes who she is. ... but with that understood, I'd choose earth.

Leslie I think would be an airbender. She's appropriately energetic and has a good sense of humor.

Katara is a waterbender!

Marceline is already pyrokinetic, telekinetic, and can fly, but I think firebender suits her best.

Hiccup I think would also be an earthbender. If in part because if he were a metalbending, metalwork would be much easier for him!

Manny ummmm I think it's a little weird to imagine chi-based bending with someone who's a skeleton. But given that he tends to approach things by being a little manipulative and cunning, I'd go with waterbender.

Sherlock - Subatomic particles.

Vlad - He already believes he's a master of air and darkness.

Olga - Earth and Sky, depending on her mood.

River Song - Time. Water.

Fiona - Incendiary devices. Fire.

Bryan Mills - Stone. ~ponders~ Yeah, that works.

DI Alex Drake - ~eyes Gene~ Stone. Or Water.

John Silver - Is gold an element?

I was initially tempted to say air for Sariel, given her profession and the genuine joy she takes in it, but the more I think about it... she could be a waterbender, this one. There's a bright core to her, but it's more refined than fire generally seems. Waterbending seems to fit with the comments that have been made about her as an observer and a people-reader... and hey, that's canonical in her actions! The keen observation part, not the waterbending. :)

What do folken think?
