Kamen Rider Wizard - Alternate beings with differing levels of power and maturity emerge from humans, killing them, to escape a sea which lashes out and screams. Up until recently, the plot suffered from "Who knows what their goals are"-it is and thus made no sense.

Final Fantasy XII - From bar or test posts or both? Inefficient, corrupt bureaucrats misuse resources and mismanage a small borderland between two aggressive countries. Magic is plentiful and a diverse host of people aren't starving, but clearly there's unrest/an unlit powder keg. Sherral himself is sweet and honest and follows orders, poor kid.

Runescape - Magic. Magic everywhere, and if you don't use it properly, the likelihood that you'll be eaten--or worse--is high. Based on Amuscut/Evil Chicken alone, I can't imagine that thatched-roof cottages would be present there for any purpose but burning.
