The Milliways grounds has gone through many changes, but we don't really have a formal way of keeping track of them (Well, maybe Bing does, but I wouldn't know). So it is easy to forget what is outside the back door and sometimes its easy to forget what is inside as well.

The fact that Milliways is wibbly wobbly spacey wacey anyhow makes it easy for our pups to not notice such things, so it is perfectly fine if we suffer from memory lapses.

So! What is in the collectively imagined space we all know and love and play in? Extra points for any peculiarities that no one has played with in a while. Share your toys!

I am really annoyed that everything went fuck-up for me all at once, because we lost the wiki as a result of it (well, I'm annoyed for other reasons as well, but that's the relevant reason).

What I remember from the wiki:

the lake (complete with giant squid)
the stables
the sparring grounds
the shooting range
the labyrinth
Baby (the cells)
the security office next to Baby
the mountains, which were raised by Belar (I think?)
the forest, which loops back on itself
the library upstairs
and the brothel upstairs
someone's bra was at one point hung up and framed behind the Bar
tabs are kept track on a giant ticker-board (like the time-tables at Grand Central Station)
there are the kitchens, which are massive
graffiti is a thing that happens in the bathrooms.
lots of graffiti in the rafters as well. Some in Latin.
the infirmary
an endless amount hotel-like rooms upstairs, which can be done up in any way imaginable
Raph built a tent on the roof, I think
there's a gym somewhere
and a pool
I vaguely recall both a hammock and a tree house out in the forest somewhere
dart boards
billiard tables
televisions that play all manner of strange channels
trilobite tank
fireplace with fish in
the booooathouse, or however the fuck that was spelt
the forge
I believe there's a garden and a greenhouse somewhere?

Uhm. I'll come back and add more if I think of them. And someone correct me if I've made anything up by accident.

cameoflage: Ozymandias from Watchmen, as a chibi, singing "Never Gonna Give You Up". Bubastis is there too. (Ozymandias rickroll)

[personal profile] cameoflage 2013-09-21 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
I remember most of this -- from reading the wiki and old threads mostly -- except for the boathouse-with-however-many-Os, the darts and billiards (not that those don't make sense), and the size of the kitchens (though that also makes perfect sense).

Raph's tent is no longer on the roof, and neither are his booby traps.
All of those got "warshed" away during the Allpocalypse.

I'm almost tempted to say that anything that hasn't been purposely reset is also gone, but that's just for my own simplicity's sake.

Belar raised the mountains, yes. They only have one side. If you climb to the summit of one of them and keep heading down, you end up back where you were. If you climb to the summit and stand with one leg on each side to try to view both sides you get an amazing headache and may possibly get swatted by a bear, because they're Belar's mountains of COURSE there are bears. The fishing up in the streams is pretty good too.

A couple of things from ages ago:

There's a raft in the lake that looks like it was built by a couple of kids. Don't know if it's still there, but somehow the raft that Val and Ender built in Ender's Game was in the lake for a while.

Also, somewhere on the grounds there's a single spindly tree that Val used to sit under.

Also also, I keep forgetting to ask if it's alright if the Warehouse people add a Tesla Coil to the shooting range. Helena's building it! Anyone mind?

As for my own additions:

- The Garage, which is accessible via an elevator, that contains every fictional mode of transportation ever imagined. Yes, including that one. There's also some cheap hatchback car that's been beaten all to crap whose make and model specifics elude me at the moment.

- The Whomping Willow is still out there. The grounds themselves look like Hogwarts, if the bar itself were the Castle.

- The Forbidden Forest resets the further you go into it, like a cheap cartoon background. And often times changes direction on you no matter how careful of attention you keep. You could walk a mile in a straight line and still wind up exactly where you started. Which isn't to say that they're aren't fixed points, because there are, they're just few and far between.

One such point is Mike's Pot Plantation, currently being tended to by the watchful eye of Boyd Crowder...so I'd be careful about that if I was you.

- Air Temple Island.
Yup, there's a completed Air Temple on an island in the Lake. It looks pretty much like what the main temple structure of Air Temple Island looks like in Legend of Korra, only this one is made of beer bottles.

Zed has said it all, but I have to add:

  • the gardens are quite large, with lawns outside the back door with lawn furniture on during the warmer months (where Hannibal held his Bastille Day BBQ), flower gardens, herb gardens by the back door of the kitchen, at least one potting shed, and fruit trees near the edge of the forest
  • the forge is by the lake shore and by now consists of the forge building itself (low, medieval), an additional room that holds the trolls' alichimeter, and an annex for storage; there is a bare space in front of it where no grass grows and where big things can be worked on that are too large or too smelly for inside, some burned patches nearby where Teja sometimes runs charcoal kilns, and a bench so you can sit outside. The inside of the forge, I could describe with great detail, but that would be too much detail for the spacey-waycey nature of the bar and its by-products adjoining space.
  • the library is in room 79i (AKA 88, but that was bad for the Discworld wizard who co-founded it); it started out as a small library f maical books and books about magic, but has over the years expanded into a huuuuge place of nonlinear space in which you can potentially find anything or get lost forever, most likely with its own stable connection to the L-Space and/or that magical library from ATLA that I personally have only heard about second-hand...
  • Oh, and there's a clearing in the forest, with a little pond in which red waterlilies grow in the summer; one winter, Urq and the Prince of Persia unfroze the pond and killed the life inside to take a bath, and Demeter had to heal the fetid mess that resulted from it in the spring.

For the record, I would not be surprised if the Library somehow connects to the Warehouse's library. (The Warehouse's library has first editions of every book ever. No, seriously. EVERY BOOK EVER. This is canon.)

I seem to remember something about access to the true magical texts was restricted? In other words, it had to be arranged ahead of time and couldn't just be stumbled upon? And I'm meaning true grimoires and not just random books on, say, alchemy.

There are also:
A warrior's training ground, ala Camp Half-blood, which was built by Amascut, Thalia and others. It has sort of an obstacle course with wobbly bridges, rope ladders, and such. I don't think it has a climbing wall with lava flows.

There is a cave entrance to the multi-dimensional labyrinth from the Percy Jackson-verse up in the mountains, as well. I believe the entrance moves and is marked with the Greek character delta (Δ).

There is a warrior training ground that is part Camp Half-Blood, part outdoorsy obstacle course/danger room, part superhero rescue training center, part .... uhhh.... Ryu Hyabasa added something to it, like an actual building No he didn't, not necessarily.

Included are a grenade range complete with half built buildings and burntout automobiles. Also a wheat field for practicing sneak attacks! I imagine it gets harvested once in a while, but by who, I dunno. Oh! and as requested by Mallory Grace, tightropes! And a trapeze!

Oh, also, somewhere between the forbidden forest Bing mentioned above and the Dreaming, there is a patch of marrentil/god catnip. It stopped Amascut from walking into Ponyville and harvesting unicorn horn. :P

Fiona used a firing range, for small arms and the occasional RPG/grenade/things what go boom testing.

I know Captain Ryan kept a den in the woods, sort of a slightly raised tree house thing.

My favourite things are still the fire place with fish in it, and the trilobite tank. Also, paradoxes. (Shut up, Earl.)

The firing range is mostly used by gun shooters, but it includes a number of hay bales for archers. Some considerable distance beyond the end of the conventional shooters' range there is a boulder and the remains of a sizable crater; that was where Ironhide of the 2007 Bayverse Autobots used to aim with his plasma cannon.

Ellen still has not forgiven the idiot Englishman who yelled at her for using a shotgun at the target range.
