Maru posted a brilliant Disc World AU in mixed-muses, and it's already lush, full of potential and just plain fun. As a player, you don't need to know that much about the canon (says me), as we're mainly flying by the seat of our pants. Come join in!
So far, Autor's a journalist who started a hunt for a scandal via throwing a dart at a list of businesses. To his surprise, he found a juicy one at the Golem Trust, which--bonus!--meant he didn't have to make it up.
Sparrow's a honest thief, Teja's a sergeant bogged down by paperwork, Lady Loki is mysterious, Jack West is an imposing mercenary, Brooke is adorable, Moist is Moist, and Hannibal is the worst at helping. Anyone who isn't there is missing out.
My brains were swallowed by fandom, mostly. There is this falling-up-an-escalator gif that goes around as a metaphor for how a new fandom grabs you, and I feel a bit like that.
In RP news, Cass already mentioned the Ankh-Morpork City Watch AU, and in Milliways proper, Hannibal helped Jean Valjean with his first steps in the bar. In a typically Hannibal way of helping, helped by the fact that Les Mis was definitely required reading for Hannibal at school, and he knows very well who he is dealing with. Valjean, though, actually managed to catch Hannibal out at one point and call his bullshit, but the suave cannibal managed to smooth things over. However, Valjean scored a point where most add up to a resounding zero, so to speak.
Becca and I have been working on the slowtimes from Grantaire and Enjolras's joint EP last week. Jane Austen's thread (in which Grantaire is chatty, and Enjolras is um kind of an antisocial sexist) has wrapped, and I think the Gavroche thread (in which Grantaire is chatty, and Enjolras is quiet but amiable) is probably close to doing likewise? Ganymede's thread (in which Enjolras discusses politics and Grantaire ogles) might be faded too, but Natasha's thread (in which she tries to convince them that vampires exist, and they all segue straight into the politics of popular media) and Teja's thread (in which Enjolras discusses politics and Grantaire watches Enjolras discuss politics) and Gaeta's thread (in which amiable chatting takes a sudden nosedive into DEEP AWKWARDNESS and is being hastily winched back out) are still very much ongoing. So is the Grantaire-free Javert-Enjolras, in which the mutual dislike remains VERY STRONG with these two.
Ha, I know that feeling! Though I agree that Bruce doesn't -- but possibly Bruce is more watchful about pissing people off, or expects more that he will, or something? But anyway YES, about Valjean.
I was gleeing to Becca on Saturday, I think it was, about how this is the first person from their world's context that Enjolras can be both friendly and serious with, and how happy that's making me. (He's friendly with Grantaire and Gavroche, but neither of them really wants to get into serious discussions of weighty matters, and he's serious with Javert, but... um.) And the mutual respect from very different personalities and social roles also makes me beam.
Its been a pretty quiet week for me, the biggest thing was that I Need My Fics' opened the archives over Archive of Our Own. I recommend exploring it as there are a lot of great fics. I'm getting into a process of doing more job stuff both with looking and applying and I wrote a librarian blog post about what I'm doing now.
In terms of RP, I've been pretty quiet. Most of my creativity has been coming out in lots of photographs and if you follow me on Twitter or Instragram you've seen them and I have a number of OOMs in the works.
There's the Discworld post that's been mentioned and its fun making Moist squirm. Jane and Enjolras and Grantaire were linked and enjoyable. I love seeing how she reacts to them and how the prejudices of the time comes through.
Jane also confused poor Lord Blakeney, who I'm happy to see in Bar. I love that movie and canon.
Well, this week, I did not a lot until Wednesday, when I picked up a thread again, and suddenly, Alfred and Javert were giving lots of people feels (I will get back to it, Write, just not tonight).
I also wrote a fic thing for a prompt I received ages ago and hadn't yet responded to.
And then I've been playing Jack West over in the Ankh Morpork AU (both links to Jack's threads). More tags there will probably go out tomorrow night, and tags in are definitely welcome.
Oh, and there's also the MM thread between Alfred and Jason (which, again, I will get back to, I swear, just not tonight).
Red has now been through the flashback bits of "Child of the Moon," and I think she knows the most about Helena of anyone who doesn't also work at the Warehouse.
Speaking of the Warehouse, those guys are through some canon and much better off for it.
No RP this week besides the Enjolras-Grantaire-Gaeta thread already mentioned, which continues to be a delight. :D!
IRL: on the one hand, I did this to my knees. (Short version: DC got hit by a major downpour yesterday, I was trying to run for cover, tripped, and basically did a nice derby fall on an asphalt parking lot without any padding. I'm missing a nickel-sized patch of skin from my left palm, too. :\)
On the other? I tried out for the DC Rollergirls this morning and made it past the first round of cuts. I'll know either tonight or tomorrow if I made it past the second round! Yesssss.
I met an Irish Wolfhound named Beckett. He was a giant doofy sweetheart who came up to my waist, and as I scratched his huge shaggy head, I couldn't help thinking how it was just a little bit meta.
I actually think he is! I dug up my previous photo of him and he's got the same blue rope leash. I'll be disappointed next year if I don't see him again.
Also today I rode in the Hub on Wheels bicycle event here in Boston. I did thirty miles in a little under three hours, which is not bad given that I had been completely drenched down to the skin by a downpour during the three and a half miles I had to ride to the T station to get to the starting line.
I failed to do anything productive because my father not only decided to install a satellite dish, he decided to hook it up in every room. So wayyy too much of my Friday and Saturday were devoted to cleaning, re-organizing, tree-trimming and floor washing, all of which should have been done this summer but wasn't because I was too busy worrying about my grandmother and arranging transportation for jury duty.
This botched my plans to catch up on my months old tags and my plans to EP Eponine for the first time (I'm so sorry Katie :/), both of which I intend on rectifying in the next 24 hours.

ETA: Oh, and Teja discussed Javert with Guppy, getting an armful of toddler and a pink hairclip in the process.

Also, my one new thread: Enjolras re-met Jean Valjean! I am loving that thread so much, oh my god. So much.

Charles is talking to Red and worrying about her.
Moist and Helena are plotting to create some trouble.
