DE: Halloween Free for all

[Leans up against 4th wall, all casual. Knocks over 4th walk.]

Oops.

Post in as yourself in Milliways (in costume since it's the day before Halloween), meet your pups, meet other pups, try out new pups, revisit old pups, start your own topic threads, whatever.

Seriously, I never ever have the time to do this. But if anyone wants to talk with me after I get home from work (whenever that will be), please feel free to say hi.

Bed in the middle of the bar. Shirtless guy sitting upright in it.

Thought Process:

Why am I hungry? WHY?
Why am I awake? I don't have to be awake today. WHYWHYWHY?
Where am I? This is a bar with a bed in it. There are bar people here. Where is my shirt?
Why is this dream so vivid? Exec("AmIAWizard.exe")
No food and no shirt appears. Still hungry. I must suck at lucid dreaming.
Why was my previous dream about the Squidbillies? That is a terrible show.
Ignore growling stomach and bar noises and try to sleep? [Yes/Very yes]

The door flies open and a short-ish, round girl with short, dark hair, in a long black skirt, green sweater, and a box full of papers comes through backwards. "Oh, for the love of Pete. I have meetings today." Under her breath, she mutters "And now I have to come up with something new for tomorrow's DE."

She's getting a cup of tea and sitting down, though, going through her papers and watching all of the chaos.

"Just for the record," says the dark-haired fortyish woman with the brown stockinette knitting going on, "it wasn't a deliberate effort on my part, but, yeah, now that Ray finally gets to retire, the RP weirdness sponge job goes to Shephard. He already had Weird Mythic Shit coming out his ears, so it was mostly just a case of turning the reception up to eleven."

I've never done this before, but hey, what's better than spending a day in Milliways? So if you look over there, to that corner of the library, you'll see a chick with short red hair, dressed in the guise of a responsible student. I am, as you can see, playing on DW rather than reading about modernism, and also screaming (silent) blue murder at the impossibility of getting connected to Oxford's internet accounts.

I'll be around more later to talk to pups properly - my guys definitely want a word - but I'm happy to chat with others. (The 'responsible student' costume is just that, of course; distractions from academia are never not welcome.)

The twenty-something young woman taking up one end of the couch today is dressed in a tawny business-casual outfit with sensible brown shoes. Her brown hair is worn loose, as curly and thick as a lion's mane. Which is fitting, because her face is touched in places with subtle marks of face paint to suggest a lion's face, as well, and the false nails she wears on her fingers are pointed and painted a darker tawny brown to suggest claws.

Saph loves Halloween.

"This is much better than inventorying archival vaults," she says, sipping her tea. Do come join her - the teapot holds more than enough for two.

At a table, over a cup of coffee roughly the size of her head, a woman with curly brown hair presses a heating pad to her neck and sulks at the bar at large.

"So on the bright side," she announces, "I'm not concussed. Just whiplashed like all fuck."

Who knew whiplash could cause neurological side effects on top of the bog standard neck and shoulder pain? NOT PHOENIX. Bodies are fuckin' weird, man.

"Ooh, what are you knitting?" asks the twenty-something woman in the faintly leonine costume, peering.

"Concussions are the absolute worst, and it's probably better for you that you didn't have one." Joshua winces. "Although, from what I know, whiplash sucks too."

"Lion Brand has a pattern for a blanket- this one- knitted in pieces," Cam says. "I changed the yarns I'd be using to a dark brown all-wool one, a heathered graybrown all-wool one, and one Wool-Ease one for the red. This is one of the brown squares."

"In all honesty I actually started this thing last year. Cast on the first square and knitted several inches while I watched Felix Baumgartner going up and jumping out of the Red Bull Stratos capsule. I just got distracted along the way."

"Oh I like that," Saph grins. "Never tried something as big as a blanket - at least, nothing bigger than a log-cabin baby blanket for my niece. Socks, gloves, scarves and shawls tend to be about my measure, or else my projects never get finished."

"I watched that too. It was amazing - and more than a little fraught. I worried for him the entire time."

"Yeah, yeah, I know. I just had a plan. I'm not truly miffed." She waves a hand with a cheerful expression. "Perhaps this is more of a great minds think alike situation>"
camwyn: (knitting)

[personal profile] camwyn 2013-10-30 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, yes. I've mostly done the smaller things, although I knitted a full-sized sweater or two," Cam says. "Only blanket I ever did was the one in this icon, for a contest, and I spent several nights a week holed up in a bookstore just knitting for hours on end to do that. I need to get some bulky yarn and do a scarf for this winter, as long as I'm at it. I started this blanket because I wanted something that would be warm, since my old apartment had leaky windows, and that would also look good on my couch. Then because I was moving to New England. Just never got around to doing more than a few squares, but I did bring the yarn with me, so..."

"I was a little worried myself. Then I saw he had Joseph Kittinger on his team and that kind of quieted a lot of the worry, since I'd read about Kittinger's jump on Badass of the Week, and if anybody would know how to arrange things and take the right precautions it'd be him."

"Oh, I've seen what she does come Halloween. I had one year as some kinda alien critter with hooves'n mandibles'n shit. That wasn't too bad but I still ain't forgiven her for comin' in here a while back'n bein' stuck in Mowgli getup. Three words: no fuckin' pants."

"Hooves and mandibles? What the hell?!? Life is weird."

Then after looking him up and down, completely forgetting the pony shape, "I wouldn't mind seeing that."

"Somethin' from Halo. I ain't into video games, I git enough of that shit every day."

The look wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the pony thing. He makes a wry face and notes, "Ain't sayin' I didn't git a couple compliments at the time, but fuck, that kind of thing gits drafty mighty quick."

"The reports that he wasn't getting any heat to his helmet for a while as they did the final checks freaked me the hell out. Made me feel ill," Saph makes a face. "I don't think I breathed the entire first half of his descent - at least until he stopped spinning and stabilized."

"That blanket looks lovely! Those braided cables turned out beautifully. I'm currently just working on Christmas knitting. Just finished a pair of pink, fetching fingerless gloves for my second-eldest niece, and am about six inches into a short scarf for my eldest niece, based on the open-X stitch pattern used in a shawl I made last year."
