Thought Process:

Why am I hungry? WHY?
Why am I awake? I don't have to be awake today. WHYWHYWHY?
Where am I? This is a bar with a bed in it. There are bar people here. Where is my shirt?
Why is this dream so vivid? Exec("AmIAWizard.exe")
No food and no shirt appears. Still hungry. I must suck at lucid dreaming.
Why was my previous dream about the Squidbillies? That is a terrible show.

"'Wrong side of the bed' might apply in this situation," a twenty-something woman dressed as Luigi declares. "Yes, indeed."

The door flies open and a short-ish, round girl with short, dark hair, in a long black skirt, green sweater, and a box full of papers comes through backwards. "Oh, for the love of Pete. I have meetings today." Under her breath, she mutters "And now I have to come up with something new for tomorrow's DE."

She's getting a cup of tea and sitting down, though, going through her papers and watching all of the chaos.

Already seated and sipping at an office mocha (coffee+hot cocoa), a tall, roundish guy says, "You know you can always mine the suggestion box right? I can't count the times I've had no brain and just copied and pasted."

"Just for the record," says the dark-haired fortyish woman with the brown stockinette knitting going on, "it wasn't a deliberate effort on my part, but, yeah, now that Ray finally gets to retire, the RP weirdness sponge job goes to Shephard. He already had Weird Mythic Shit coming out his ears, so it was mostly just a case of turning the reception up to eleven."

"Ooh, what are you knitting?" asks the twenty-something woman in the faintly leonine costume, peering.

I've never done this before, but hey, what's better than spending a day in Milliways? So if you look over there, to that corner of the library, you'll see a chick with short red hair, dressed in the guise of a responsible student. I am, as you can see, playing on DW rather than reading about modernism, and also screaming (silent) blue murder at the impossibility of getting connected to Oxford's internet accounts.

I'll be around more later to talk to pups properly - my guys definitely want a word - but I'm happy to chat with others. (The 'responsible student' costume is just that, of course; distractions from academia are never not welcome.)

Guh, that reminds me, I have to sit down and watch the lectures for that Harvard e-course I signed up for (it's on the intersection of science and cooking- right now I'm only on the introductory lectures but we're going to have homework like 'making cottage cheese' and 'demonstrating the properties of egg foam by making molten chocolate cake').

Preferably when I'm not at the office, though.

The twenty-something young woman taking up one end of the couch today is dressed in a tawny business-casual outfit with sensible brown shoes. Her brown hair is worn loose, as curly and thick as a lion's mane. Which is fitting, because her face is touched in places with subtle marks of face paint to suggest a lion's face, as well, and the false nails she wears on her fingers are pointed and painted a darker tawny brown to suggest claws.

Saph loves Halloween.

"This is much better than inventorying archival vaults," she says, sipping her tea. Do come join her - the teapot holds more than enough for two.

"Hey Leo," a twenty-something lady Luigi says, easing into a chair to take a break from her mini-Mario. "What's your sign?"

At a table, over a cup of coffee roughly the size of her head, a woman with curly brown hair presses a heating pad to her neck and sulks at the bar at large.

"So on the bright side," she announces, "I'm not concussed. Just whiplashed like all fuck."

Who knew whiplash could cause neurological side effects on top of the bog standard neck and shoulder pain? NOT PHOENIX. Bodies are fuckin' weird, man.

"Concussions are the absolute worst, and it's probably better for you that you didn't have one." Joshua winces. "Although, from what I know, whiplash sucks too."

A tall roundish, forty-something guy walks in drying his hands.

"Well, I guess you really do have to scramble the eggs before you put them in a microwave and not just break the surface tension. The more you know..."

"I don't think I've ever tried to do anything with eggs in the microwave. What happened?"

There's an early twenties lad sat in one corner, scowling at a laptop.

"Why won't you just compile, you stupid piece of code?"

And now there's a woman dressed as Luigi perched on the edge of his table, complete with cheeky grin. "Isn't there some sort of law of coding that states, 'the more you yell at me, the less I compile'?"

A thirty-ish scientist with glasses, short brown hair in a ponytail, lab glasses, and a hoodie drops into a comfy chair, opens up an issue of Nature, and sighs.

"The labs are too hot, the office is freezing, and all I want is some peace and quiet. Open office plans are for the birds. Or maybe elephants. They'd have an easier time moving around in here than in our last office, anyway."

There's one chain-smoking fireman and one nerdy girl (a very incongruous pair they make) sitting at a table, watching footage of last night's hockey game on a laptop, and enthusiastically hollering, whooping, shouting, and cursing at the screen. Thing is, no matter how loud they scream at the players, they still can't hear them.

She's wearing a Rangers jersey. That's her costume, because it's kind of ridiculous to be a Rangers fan right now.

There's an archivist in a tawny business-casual suit, with curly brown hair and mildly leonine facepaint, pausing to peer at the screen as she passes their table.

There's a short, round woman and a tallish dark-haired guy collaborating on some paperwork, who both look up and snort.

Joshua is trying to hold back laughter, and the girl just raises an eybrow. "Ah. I see someone up there has a sense of humour."

The cat that sits on Bing's foot seems to approve of this attitude.

"There," says a twenty-something woman dressed as Luigi, having just typed 'there'--and quite a few other words--into the comment box she claimed as her own (due to gentle prodding to tag-in).

That sentence is ridiculously huge, she thinks, and then types that up as well. She is sitting, the narration informs, on a couch.

There is a lanky young man with dark hair who just got off his shift somewhere in the corner of the bar. For this Halloween, he has dressed up as a lanky young man with dark hair who just got off his shift.

He has a laptop open to BBC News. He also has apple turnovers. They are delicious. So delicious.

And now there's someone very carefully crowning him with a pirate hat folded out of newspaper.

Merc comes in dressed up as Batman-- bat mask, bat signal t-shirt, black pants and boots, black cape-like sweater.

This is because in real life, Merc is dressed up as Batman.

Here, have a thirtysomething redhead dressed as a hotel housekeeper. This is because she is, in fact, a hotel housekeeper, and just got home from work.

"Fucking fourth wall," she announces to no one in particular before flopping down in the nearest comfy chair.

A middle-aged man with an indefinably teenage bearing stumbles in, wearing an indescribable hat that goes well with his purple cloak and describable beard, less so with the blue-jeans and KEEP CALM AND DON'T BLINK T-shirt. "Beeble," he philosophizes.

Much like the icon the newest addition to Milliways is barefoot, sporting a head of newly-shorn black curls and wearing a skirt made of neckties--all paisley, rainbow colors--with a tee shirt that says 'History Buff: I'd Find You More Interesting If You Were Dead'.

She's got a folder of sheet music in her hands as she paces, flipping pages presumably in time with her whistling the tune to Handel's Sarabande under her breath. Someone's got a flute part to learn. (She might abruptly decide to spin, so watch out if you're nearby.)

"Where are you playing the flute?" he enquires, politely. "Good morning, miss."
