DE: That's Humor. I Recognize That.

 From [personal profile] gavin62truck :

What's your pup's sense of humor like? What sort of stuff makes them laugh and what don't they find funny? Do they make other people laugh or do others not find them funny at all? Do they laugh a lot or are they just quietly amused?

Carol - Loves terrible puns and dad jokes. Seriously, the cheesier a joke is, the more likely it is she'll laugh. Racist or sexist jokes though? Not funny. Tell her to lighten up cause "it's just a joke" and see what happens.

Mary - Doesn't laugh as easily as the others. She's not really one to tell jokes, but does enjoy laughing at things like Edith's misery or Granny's observations of the ridiculous.

Stiles - His brand of humor is all fast talk, sarcastic quips, and pop culture references. He thinks his humor is sadly under-appreciated by most people.

Knox - Always a wiseguy. Fairly crude but within limits. Likes a good dirty joke but not a really dirty dirty joke. Enjoys slapstick and physical comedy. Not big on wordplay. Loves a good satire, but not a subtle one. And is pretty good with practical jokes. Sadly has little problem with ethnic/sexist humor.

Cyborg - Big on practical jokes, physical humor, okay with wordplay, loves riddles. Loves cartoons.

Kirk - Likes very subtle forms of humor, and some puns. Really not much for jokes, even at his age. But not above a wisecrack or quip, usually to McCoy.

Gibbs - humorless. I sometimes think that they hadn't invented jokes in his time. Makes him a pretty dull drunk, doesn't it?

Howard - Big on the screwball comedies of his day. Loves shaggy dog stories. Never got used to the crudities of military humor.

Charlie - Punster. Wiseguy. Sometimes treats life like it's all a joke. Can't stand anything racist or crude or unsubtle. Even though he is never subtle.

Humor is occasionally hard to gauge in the Mother universe because things that are quirky to us are completely normal there. Lucas himself isn't very funny or, if he is, it's in a very quiet, sad way. And I think the last time he laughed was when describing that one time Fassad slipped on one of his banana peels and fell off of a tower, though that was a very bitter one.

Mia used to laugh quietly but has given more voice to it since coming to Milliways. She likes wordplay and, nowadays, her children's antics. She occasionally makes others laugh but she's usually not seen as a funny person.

The Knight has a rather dry wit and a fondness for sarcasm. I doubt many find him funny but Autor tends to laugh at his jokes and not him. Lohengrin himself rarely laughs, though he will sometimes smile.

Universally terrible.

Duo and Coyote battle it out for worst sense of humor (they both enjoy puns and knock-knock jokes, as well as shaggy dog stories and pranks), but Coyote probably comes out on top simply because she's lived long enough to amass a larger collection. Duo did infect X-23 with his sense of humor, which I find endlessly funny.

Donatello is more sedate about it, but has expanded his sense of what is funny mostly in self-defense. Thanks Mike. And Raph. And Splinter.

Ambriel is just a troll.

Amascut doesn't always joke, but when she does, it is full of innuendo. I can't imagine her laughing at much unless she is drunk on some super 'alcohol' or has gotten into the marrentil again; she will smirk and maybe chuckle at things instead, usually at her own humor. She doesn't appreciate other people's sense of humor, mostly.

Fairy Fixit hasn't had much in canon to laugh at, but I am guessing she laughs at things that fly over most people's heads.

No, seriously.

She uses a lot of jargon, so I imagine jokes that twist that jargon around and jokes that are fairly technical in nature will get a gigglesnort out of her.

Evil Chicken has an appropriate evil cackle. MUAHAHAHAHAHA!

Autor used to have to be startled into laughter, but Mways has chipped away some of his smug. He doesn't understand modern pop culture or slapstick routines, but literature references plunge him into snickerfits. Genuine laughter bubbles up from person-dependent wit, wordplay, and satire, but when inebriated he's cuddly and giggly towards anyone and everything.

All that said, his megalomaniac's cackle is coming along quite nicely.

[personal profile] gavin62truck 2013-11-13 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Tommy is sarcasm incarnate. (Daughter Katy: "I like Uncle Johnny. He doesn't do that thing that Daddy does, where he says one thing but means another.") His sense of humor can be pretty crude and juvenile, and in canon, sometimes racist, sexist, AND homophobic! Yeah, he's a great guy. :p Lou isn't much better, except the deadpan delivery is his thing, and he's a little more attuned to wordplay. They're both big on making each other and all the guys in the firehouse laugh, whether it's with silly pranks or banter about random stuff, and in fact I think Tommy's funnier when he's in sync with Lou.

Will's sense of humor is fairly silly and he loves a good reason to laugh.

Charles rarely laughs at people and can be quite sarcastic when he wants to be. The best way to judge how much he finds something funny is to watch his eyebrows, normally he just laughs but if he thinks that's not as funny as you think it is up go the eyebrows.

Moist's humor is fairly deadpan because in his line of work you don't want anyone to think you're laughing at them even if you are.

Jane's humor is caustic, witty and all about wordplay.

William doesn't laugh a lot, he should but he always worries that he's not getting jokes like he should.

Demeter has a fun sense of humor though its a bit odd as she's a goddess.

Sameth's sense of humor is pretty quiet but he loves to laugh when he can.

Tumnus is another that's quiet but he loves a good joke or even a bad one.

The Pirate King adores his puns and physical humor.

Voodoo is a piece of shit when it comes to humor. What jokes he tells and what he laughs at are entirely inappropriate for anything remotely family-friendly.

John and Mako are bad at jokes and usually don't even try.

Connor...I dunno about him.

Trowa's is terrible. Very deadpan, very big on private jokes the other person doesn't necessarily get, tendency towards gallows humor. If other people are making the joke, it usually has to catch him off-guard for him to smile or laugh -- he might be amused, but it won't show outwardly unless he's surprised into it. (The one time he laughs in canon, it's when another Gundam pilot (Heero) makes a joke about the self-detonation that put Heero in a coma for a month, right after waking up from the coma and mid-briefing. *head in hands*)

Clare doesn't understand humor.

Thor laughs at... many things! And grins at more. It's less that he's a joker, and more that he finds life and people endlessly entertaining and interesting. He's not laughing at anyone, as a rule, although sometimes he can come across as doing so; it's usually good nature overflowing, and he expects you to laugh along.

River is somewhat similar to Thor, but less bombastically so. Wordplay might or might not amuse her, but droll wit often will, especially if she likes you. (Secretly she's laughing at your dignity as much as your joke in that case, but.) Physical comedy, mugging for jokes, deadpan sarcasm... Quippy banter is sort of a background of life for her, because she's from a Joss Whedon show, but it amuses her sometimes anyway.

Regan is more restrained than River, and more likely to laugh at banter or wordplay, but her own wit is usually of the wry comments sort.

Enjolras appreciates wit, sarcasm, and wordplay. He also at least sometimes is amused by his friends being ridiculous, but equally often will regard the ridiculousness with affectionate bemusement. His own sense of humor tends towards either a) very dry jokes, or b) terrible puns. (All his friends make lots of puns, but some of them make more and better ones. Heck, some of them go for very complicated and obscure multi-level puns with allusions in. Enjolras's puns are, like, dad jokes. He makes complicated and obscure multi-level wordplay, but for rhetoric, not jokes.)

Jim is a Mel Brooks character. He'd be pretty useless if he weren't funny in that vulgar Borscht Beltish sort of way.

Leela doesn't really do jokes. I mean, she does it occasionally ("Yes, K9, what do you want, a biscuit?") but generally when funny things are going on, she's the one doing the scowling.

Kane has been known to deliver the odd bad joke on occasion, often going great lengths to deliver it. ("What is Nod doing in Arizona?" *Hijacks viewscreen of the Philadelphia* "You'll come for the sunshine, but you'll stay for the people!") I think it's not so much the jokes themselves that he finds amusing, but the fact that he's annoying GDI by doing it.

Caius's sense of humor is...well, normal, more or less. He's a grave man doing serious work, but everybody laughs sometimes, right? I wouldn't count on him to tell any jokes himself, though. It would probably come across like dad-humor.

Garyn has a very laconic and deadpan sense of humor. It's more present than his usual sourness tends to indicate. He tends to favor sarcasm and dark wit, in himself and in others.
