Daily Entertainment: Foreshadowing Edition!

My brain is full. So, from [personal profile] death_gone_mad, we have today's DE:

Because of a new item released in-game, I realized that the tiara Amascut was wearing in the Stolen Hearts/Diamond in the Rough quests contains a pair of fake kitty ears. No wonder that tiara has been bothering me.

*headdesk*

Does your pup occasionally wear things or even colors that hint at a secret identity or foreshadow some plot? Are the creators of your canon too classy for that sort of thing? Or does your pup live in what amounts to a superhero costume all the time?

Ichabod doesn't seem to have changed his clothes once since he woke up in 2013.

Does he seem to shower, or at least clean his clothes? If not, he and Gibbs have another thing in common.

(Haven't seen canon yet. Figure that at this point, I can just wait till it's on Netflix and blinge-watch if I like it.)

There is a scene where he attempts to use a shower, with assistance from Abbie's helpful post-its. He falls over in shock when it power-showers at him.

What is up with that, seriously?

I know! I could understand keeping the coat, but not the other layers.

Abbie needs to take him clothes shopping.

Said in-game item is in the icon. I was thinking of eventually bringing it in as an artifact for the W13 pups or maybe even Hannibal Lecter, since it enables mortals to see and gobble up souls. Anyway, it has the kitty ear tiara attached to it. *points*

Oh, also, Fairy Fixit has her overalls and weird looking hard hat, so there's that.

Haha, yea. Her brother's version of the mask is nicer; it lets mortals act as a psychopomp for lost souls.

Still might be Dark Vault worthy, though. :D

Sprites, like most cartoon characters, do not change their clothes all that much. In their case, however, I figure it's 'cause they're digital, they don't have all those little skin secretions we do, and their world on the whole is a lot cleaner, so they really don't need to. (This does not, of course, prevent stains or the need for a bath when it is funny.)

That said, we do see alternative costumes frequently, mostly in the form of Games. This was pre-Matrix Enzo, not my Enzo, but... he had an earring in his left ear in the Road Warrior parody Game. In the Evil Dead parody Game "Malicious Corpses", he was a zombie (in Michael Jackson's Thriller outfit) and his right eyeball temporarily popped out. (Also, the deer head on the cabin wall later stated, "It's only funny till someone loses an eye.") As far back as Season 1, we saw an alternate dark-future teenage street punk Enzo who, guess what, had an earring in his left ear and his right eye, although intact, crossed with a scar. (Also a kind of terrible attempt at starting to grow a moustache, but I'm not sure that counts as foreshadowing.)

YES DEFINITELY.

It isn't really foreshadowing, but each of the Greater Phantoms and/or their hosts wears clothing that is in some way evocative of the mythical beast they represent. Chimera is the best example of this, as his host wears things like a fur hoodie, boots with fake leopard fur, t-shirts with animals on them, etc (this includes leopard print underwear, we find out at one point). But it applies to them all: Dragon's host wears clothing in red and black that's often very evocative of wings, Medusa's host wears long dresses, shawls and scarves that make her look somewhat snakelike, so on, so forth.

For Yugo/Phoenix, he wears almost exclusively red and orange, usually of a kind of raggedy, tassel-y sort that's meant to evoke feathers.

It's not foreshadowing, because for the most part their identities are already clear when you see them, but it's a design choice.

For Tommy, foreshadowing or secret identity? Not so much. But he does tend to wear things that reflect his personal identity and interests. He often wears t-shirts that are kelly green or refer to his Irish roots, and he's worn several different hockey team logos. His superhero costume is his bunker gear.

[personal profile] minkhollow 2013-11-27 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
So subtle I didn't even notice it until manylots rewatches later: In Buried, the Caretaker-changey ribbon is green. In late S4, Claudia gets zapped with green lightning when the Warehouse is trying to get her attention.

Way back in Time Will Tell, there's a bit where Mrs. F is turning over info in her head, gets up and leaves the hospital to Deal With Shit. EVERY FLASH OF CLAUDIA IN THAT SEQUENCE IS TINTED GREEN.

In canon Elle wears a lot of blue, which is something I continue, and it pretty obviously refers to her blue electricity.

I don't know if I'd call it quite 'foreshadowing' or 'secret identity,' but A:TLA/LoK does tend to have its characters wear colors associated with their bending ability and/or nation. (And cartoon characters, so their clothes don't change that often.) So Katara usually wears a lot of blue, though that actively communicates her Water Tribe identity. Asami... is a non-bender and not from one of the Four Nations! Though the first outfit we see her in as the Future Industries logo on it, and her connection to it wasn't known until later. Other than that, she's usually put in a lot of red and black, which isn't necessarily relevant to anything, but I'd argue that maybe partially because she's a non-bender without another association, she's given a little more color variety.

It's also not really a secret identity/superhero thing, but as a thematic element, Manny has his blatant Rick's-Cafe-White-Tuxedo.

I won't say because spoilers, but yeah, to an extent, Jack does. Though, it's not really secret identity. But, also, trademark clothing: Heck yes he does that.

Max: No, though he does have his 'field gear', which is rather different from what he'd normally wear.

Erik: No. Film character with a reasonably broad range of outfits (though not as impressive as Jane's)

Alfred: No. Again, Film character with a large(ish) wardrobe.

Bean: well, when once I actually get him to battle school, he'll just be living in uniform all the time, so, I suppose that could count, but, it's a justified thing in universe, as he's part of the military, so... Uniforms.

Thank you for picking up the DE!

Jess is often drawn in street clothes that are red or have red accents; except for Agent of SWORD wherein she was undercover and likely hiding from her Spider-Woman persona since the skrull Queen had adopted her face for the invasion.

Mulan is always in her armor so no costume hints there. Her famous line, "Love is sacrifice" does come back to haunt her though.

Val's costume was an amalgamation of Dr. Doom and the Fantastic Four; armoured legs and arms with a F4 blue tunic (cut like Dr. Doom's) and a green cloak.

Brimstone wears a wishbone on a cord around his neck.

Not really for Will.

I'm going to do a rewatch soon for Charles but I'm sure there hints in it. The most obvious isn't foreshadowing as much as look, codenames when Raven's naming everyone. There's a lot more referencing and calling back to the other movies such as Erik and Charles playing chess and moments like that. And there's the fact that Charles is one of the few X-Men that doesn't really wear a costume so its harder to hint at that as opposed to Erik's helmet.

With Sameth, there's a good bit of foreshadowing about no, really, he's not going to end up Abhorsen. His worries with Death, his ease with making things, some of Yrael's comments, but since the Wallmakers aren't explained until when he learns, its not obvious.

I feel like there might be in Moist's canons but I'm not sure since we don't meet him until its too late for him to turn back to his old life.

With William, I feel like there must be something but I haven't done a canon rewatch in a while so I'm not sure.

Demeter's canon doesn't quite work that way so no.

In terms of Jane, we kind of already know the end of her story so foreshadowing is kind of built in.

I don't think there's any that I can recall for Tumnus or the Pirate King. If anyone can remember what I'm forgetting, please help.

Alanna always wears an emberstone around her neck that was given to her by the Goddess. At the moment it's just a memento from the encounter and a personal reminder of her oaths, but soon she'll figure out it helps her see other people's magic. From that point on, it becomes instrumental to plot.

I think the braids Grace puts in her hair -- random, haphazardly done -- have something to do with her dead sister as much as boredom.

The only one of my pups who really has anything like meaningful clothes is Garyn. There'll be his Legion uniform when he gets to that point (on account of the way I'm playing him), but the biggie is a ring called the Moon and Star. It has minor-to-moderate (depending on whether you mod it) positive effects on the wearer's powers of persuasion. More crucially, only Nerevar Indoril himself (or, presumably, one of his incarnations) can wear it. Supposedly, anyway - we never see anybody else wearing it. The Great Houses and Ashlander Tribes also give him tokens of their recognition that he is Hortator and Nerevarine.
