DE: I must not fear

Inspired by my reading of Code Name Verity (which is breaking my heart), what are ten of your character's fears?

ETA: Actually ten can get pretty cluttered, let's go with four. If you want to go for ten though, feel free.
camwyn: Me in a bomber jacket and jeans standing next to a green two-man North Andover Flight Academy helicopter. (Default)

Adrian Shephard is afraid of three things in this world:

- Clowns
- Flying
- The winged monkeys from the Wizard of Oz

Four things, if you count his momma when she's angry.

I'm not sure I can name 4 with Cato but when he was in canon, I've always assumed one of his biggest fears was letting others down. His district, his family, everything. Due to the nature of how careers are trained, I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of the biggest pressures on this young man's shoulders.

Yay, ten was a bit daunting.

Still, I might only manage three for Amascut. Let's see. The obvious one is her full blown phobia of cats, but I think she also has a fear of traps/getting backed into a corner. Over in twitter RP there has been talk about how to "cure" her and that has been... uncomfortable.

Oddly, I think she might have a fear of loneliness.

Oh! That's four! Yay!

Fairy Fixit is a small thing and I think she might have a fear of being crushed or swatted. But I think the fear of being used up for her magic is bigger. Final Fantasy VI's magitek or the way fairies are used in The Legend of Zelda games would cause her panic attacks. D:

Alex: Losing her daughter, dying young, being left alone, snakes.

Dejah: Losing her mental faculties, running out of time to finish all the things she wants to research, her own emotions, war returning to Helium.

John Silver: Being made to look stupid, having his tongue cut out, the gallows, rats.

Olga: Running out of vodka.

Sherlock: Feeling helpless, failing his family, boredom.

Vert: Cold iron, captivity, the colour grey, being forgotten.

Vlad: Losing, being unloved, being powerless.

I love that book so much. SO MUCH.

Alanna: discovery, spiders, the Ordeal, failing her friends, losing her friends when they discover the truth about her. She has many fears at this point.

Elizabeth: death, imprisonment, a return to the restrictions of her youth. Um... misplacing Will's heart?

Grace: failing someone she loves again. It is constantly hanging over her head and responsible for much of her behavior.

Doctor Evil: penguins, the people who spray perfume on you in department stores, bubble wrap, food trucks and snuggies.

Jim: never proving himself worthy, disappointing Spur, disappointing Jess, never capturing the Brumbies.

Karou: eternal loneliness, never knowing why she feels so empty and lost, developing a caffeine allergy, slowly losing Zuzana.
aberration: NASA Webb image of the Carina nebula (there is a war coming)

Elle - 1) being hurt when she doesn't expect it; 2) that one of the few people she trusts will hurt her; 3) that she'll let them; 4) that Certain People will be hurt when they're not expecting it; 5) that she'll disappoint Certain People.

Asami - At the moment, it's 1) disappointing her father; 2) disappointing anyone else she respects. But she has so much confidence that even these are just sort of whispered concerns. And she'll get over them in a hurry when she needs to, and her fears will become 3) her father's capabilities and; 4) her own capabilities. (She's also not a huge fan of creepy-crawly things, but has this perpetual phobia-vs-curiosity mindset about them.)

Katara - 1) Harm to her family; 2) harm to Aang; 3) Fire Nation soldiers generally, though she's good at dealing with it; 4) Starvation.

Hiccup - At the moment, 1-4 is all his secret being discovered.

Marceline - 1) showing weakness; 2) loneliness (not that she'd ever admit it ever); 3) abandonment (argh)

Leslie - 1) librarians; 2) not living up to others' expectations of her; 3) unemployment; 4) Lord Voldemort.

Manny - 1) being sprouted; 2) stuck in the Land of the Dead forever; 3) dead-end jobs that aren't at the top; 4) being stuck generally.

That book is amazing and I got to meet the author at the ALA conference in June, she's wonderful.

Will: letting down his friends, family and Nottingham, dying without a chance to say goodbye, not being able to fight back

Charles: losing himself in terms of inside another's mind or losing his shields and knowing how to find his way back to his own mind, being alone, seeing mutants become outcasts (sadly that one is going to happen), having the people he loves leave

Ivan: small, dark and wet spaces (at one point in canon, he was tied up in a storm drain and left to die there), disappointing Gregor, doing something so stupid that it harms Barrayar, losing his mother

William: Mark dying, people who can enchant you, not getting a chance to say goodbye to his father, letting his mother down

Sameth: Death, letting down the Old Kingdom and his family

Jane: having no control over what happens in her life, being alone

Moist: getting caught, having no escape route, violence

Demeter: losing Kore forever, being alone

Tumnus: losing track of time, the White Witch, wolves, not being able to protect Lucy

The Pirate King: getting caught, losing his ship

For Ibani.

1. Powerlessness: That's the biggest one, and it definitely has its origins in her time as a slave where she was at the mercy of pretty much everyone ever. (When you're on a planet like Ilum, there's not much to keep the various thugs you employ at their job of watching slaves unless they enjoy tormenting people weaker than themselves.)

2. Becoming a monster: She's seen what most Sith are like, and she knows that it would be very easy to become what she's fighting against. The Dark Side can corrupt you, and her life means she's going to be tempted to fall more or less constantly.

3. Failure: Tied into powerlessness above really. Ibani has done things she's not proud of to survive, if only in the hope that if she's not dead she can change things for the better. Failing at that would be worse than death.

4. Death. Because there is way too much stuff left to fix for her to die now, kark it!

Fears for our Milliways' muses eh?

In order of people:

Chris Ramirez: Letting his teammates down, being a disappointment to his father, (sadly is likely true), being disloyal to his friends, and lastly fear of being forced off as a Kamen Rider just as he was forced off as a marine.

Church: Losing Tex forever, actually admitting what Wash said was true, and the Meta.

Zoey: Losing her Pokémon, losing her friends, being forced to rely on others, and giving up her dream.

Apple Bloom: Never getting her Cutie Mark, losing her family, and thinking that the school bullies were right about her never being good enough at anything,

Tommy fears:
- losing his children (whether by death-- he's already lost one-- or his wife taking them away or forbidding him to see them)
- losing his job or not being able to do it, especially as a result of being seriously injured
- people thinking he's a coward if they find out the truth about what he'd done, or what he hadn't done, on 9/11
- dealing with real life responsibilities as a father and husband
