Inspired by the fact that I found three expired bus tickets in my purse:

Collecting! Is there something that your character has a collection of? Is it a conscious collection, or something that they just end up with a million of hanging around?

Knox: Newspaper clippings. And sometimes whole newspapers. Often by design, but not always. When he enters the 21st century, he will lament the slow, steady death of print (and be pleased that AM Gotham and Metro Gotham will come into existence, cluttering every subway car with newsprint). Also, he has some of his baseball cards from the 60s. Somewhere.

Kirk: Noted antiques collector, as seen in Star Trek II. With a preference for first edition books, nautical items, and relics of the 19th century. Lord knows where he keeps it, since I imagine his apartment is pretty small.

Cy: He's got a small but possibly valuable collection of vintage engine parts that he tries to incorporate into the T-Car just because. And he's accidentally collected napkins and placemats from every takeout place in Jump City.

Howard: Somewhere at one of Stark Industries's airfields, he's got one of America's largest collection of 1920s aircraft. Hopes to donate it to a museum at some point.

Charlie: Not any more, but he used to collect theories about conspiracy theorists. Boxes of evidence about "evidence." He's very much like Sherlock on Elementary in that way.

Is that you, Kali? If so, WOW, it's been ages.

Either way, very glad that Ms. Walters is coming back to the Bar at the exact moment I am actually buying her new comic.

Amascut has an unintentional (mostly) collection of bones. At least it started out as unintentional.

Fairy Fixit has a collection of teeth. Plain ones, objects d'art, and failed components of teleportation systems that she swears she'll get to some day.

Evil Chicken, I almost forgot, has a treasure hoard up in his rented Milliways room, which includes a pile of apples from Jack in the Green's anti-poison tree. Amascut has a small pile of those apples too, but her abandoned T-Minus client is chewing its way through that slowly.

Gene - Hipflasks. Not by any special desire, he just keeps at least three on his person at all times, along with a couple in the office and the car.

None of my others do. Bruce Wayne has a lot of Bat things, but that's work. All the others either eschew possessions (J and VJ), or are constantly travelling/have no fixed abode (Robin and BB).

HEE HEE HEE

Yes, I was thinking of Courfeyrac's "collection," although he also has DEAD FRIENDS AND AN ACCESSORY PONTMERCY. Pontmercy is constant comedy, and he's guaranteed to set off any fashionable outfit by contrast!

Raven collects everything that isn't nailed down, and some stuff that is. This includes objects in space. And between space.

X-23 collects gifts from friends. And photographs, I think.

Nynaeve collects herbs and healing supplies.

Michael the Archangel collects T-shirts with words on them.

Galadan collects andain.

Sam Tyler collects neuroses!

Dean Winchester collects guns and other weapons, and porn.

Wonder Woman is not much of a collector, except of languages, I guess. And also civilian clothes.

I'm trying to picture Diana in Alexander McQueem. She'd look spectacular. But for a classical look, which Diana might favor, Valentino. She'd look so beautiful in vintage Valentino.

Shephard has the notebooks. Back when he still had both his original hands, he had an encounter with the absinthe fairy and the salmon of wisdom, or a salmon of wisdom at any rate, that resulted in him getting random military lore and knowledge dumped into his head whenever he bit his thumb (long story, it makes sense in context). Given that he figured his life expectancy was pretty short, he started buying notebooks from Bar, biting his thumb, and immediately writing down everything that came into his head. He wound up filling a substantial portion of his Milliways room with these notebooks before he lost that arm in the battle for the Mongolian gene worm. Some time later he resumed adding to the notebooks, but that was because when Kreyu took him to the Master Smith of the Fair Folk of Elysium, the smith threw in a couple of enchantments beyond the usual. One of them was that whenever the hand was not actively being used for something else, and a writing or typing implement was within reach, it would grab the implement and start writing down the biographies of all of Shephard's brothers and sisters who died at Black Mesa or as a result of the Combine. Since Shephard considers his fellow Marines brothers and sisters, that resulted in a lot more notebooks before he had the sense to get a writing tablet from the trolls. Basically his entire Milliways room is full of notebooks, and what isn't full of notebooks is mostly full of knives, both metal and stone... look, just don't go in his room, you'll get the wrong impression.

Felix... accumulates, let's say, minor healing items. There's no reason for it, he's got healing powers that well outstrip them and that he can usually use with impunity, but there you have it.

Fluttershy, at least in comics continuity, has a seriously impressive stash of yarn.

Ellen has a pretty massive collection of guns taken from people who have tried to kill her.

... look, you never know when you're going to need spare parts, and Lucky Harith only comes to town every so often.

Also she has a small but respectable comic book and comic book fragment collection. The Brotherhood gets everything else she finds out in the Wastes, reading-wise, but she keeps the comics when she finds them, and makes copies for the Citadel.

Hmmm!

Clare: No. She barely has possessions. (Spoiler, however: Eventually, you could say other people's body parts and powers! Uh, incorporated into her own, not in a serial killer locker or something.)

River: Gifts and letters and keepsakes her friends have given her. That's probably it, unless you count fluttery skirts; I don't really, because she doesn't collect more than she needs for a reasonable wardrobe.

Regan: There's probably some kind of specific art thing or two that she really likes, although it's more of a collection of "pieces I really like of this kind of thing" than a broad "any decent examples I find" thing. Pictures of her children, especially now.

Trowa: Information. Uh, for physical objects, no; Trowa makes an effort to live simply so far as that's concerned, and he's never really shed the mindset of having to be able to leave everything at a moment's notice.

Thor: I'll have to ponder him. I'm not sure. If he wanted to he'd certainly have the means to do so.

Enjolras: Not in a conscious collection way, but he probably has a quietly cherished few of the kind of Revolutionary trinket mementos that were still kicking around 40 years later. Also, books. And he is absolutely the kind of person who will earnestly keep whatever a friend gives him as a present, even if it's a gag gift or something he doesn't entirely understand the appeal of.

It's got to hurt that he doesn't have any of those things anymore. :( Almost as much as the absence of his friends.
genarti: Combeferre and Enjolras in the Cafe Musain. ([les mis] guide and chief)

[personal profile] genarti 2014-03-14 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the things aren't inherently important -- he liked them, yeah, but more because of what they symbolized than anything else. (Once again, Enjolras proves himself to be an ascetic priest of the ideal without really trying to be. I mean, he does try to be, but it comes REALLY NATURALLY.)

So, yeah, they mean that his Milliways room is less of a home than it might be if he had all his own stuff around it, I guess, but it's not a big deal. It's the people he misses, and the work he chafes without having; he has his ideals and his memories, with or without the tangible symbols of them. And he does have at least one tangible symbol, anyway -- there are multiple reasons why he never takes that cockade off.

Thor strikes me as the kind of dude that would have the room full of weapons, right next to the room full of things he's killed with those weapons and stuffed and/or skinned. Possibly with a big spot with "This Space Reserved for Jormandgr" under it. (I'm sure that the MCU Alien Asgardians have a Jormundgr, Fenrir, and Hel out there, spawn of Loki or not.)
mjolnir_retriever: Thor looking serious, armored, and dramatically shiny (armored posing comes naturally)

[personal profile] mjolnir_retriever 2014-03-15 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe! I did think about a weaponry collection. I don't think that's something he's worked to acquire, particularly, just because Mjölnir is so important to him and identified with him as his weapon. Without that, very possibly, but as it is I think it would feel to him both a little silly and as if he was being disrespectful to the other weaponry he was collecting and then sticking in a room instead of using.

Any other weapons he does acquire, though -- because they were gifts, because they were inheritances, because he had specific cause to need this or that weapon instead of a magic hammer -- he absolutely does keep in a room with honor, yeah. What I'm not sure of is how numerous those are. (Certainly the supersledge Ellen Park gave him counts as one.)

Trophies... you are probably not wrong there. >.>

Hank McCoy: I have head canonned that he collects music. He loves jazz, rock and roll, classical, Motown, and just about anything else.

Jessica Drew: Bad life decisions. On a more positive note, restaurants! Girl loves her food.

Anton: Another that collects music, though his is on mini-disc and not vinyl like Hank.

This week's renumbered 01 of Captain Marvel. Kelly Sue does Carol *so* much justice I can not even begin to explain it. If you have the funds, I would check out Kelly Sue's run on Avengers Assemble as well, which is the nearest we have to a solo title for Jess.

If you want a peek at the writing, check out Jess's most recent OOMs (here's the first and the second) which were taken from issues 09-11, Kelly Sue's first story arc.

(Being lazy and not logging out of another pup journal.)

I liked her boyfriend in San Francisco. They should bring him back. It was very groundbreaking to have a white woman date an Asian man in comics.

Poor Jess. We need to get her and Shulkie together in the bar. Stat.

And her first BFF Lindsay McCabe! I actually have plans for OOMs to bring those two to New York...well at least Lindsay. I did love David but I'm not sure how he would fit. Could be fun and awkward though!

Funny enough, I just EP'd Jess with a copy of the Daily Bugle featuring a picture of Stark and Hulk naked on the front page. (Likely to be slow if you tag though. I'm juggling a lot but if I don't throw things up, I never post. FYI, in Bar I haven't gotten Jess to where she and Clint breakup yet.)

Yrael has a decent collection of musical instruments - piano, harpsichord, violin, recorder, guitar - and a collection of books stolen from various famous libraries.

Sunshine has a vast collection of old vampire novels, including some rather rare finds she's been able to pick up over the years. Not one of them, however, is a vampire romance novel. Those are illegal, not to mention stomach-turning. She also has ended up with a large collection of random charms, given to her by her mother, who worries about her.

Shulkie used to collect men. Sometimes they'd leave relics behind after a night of sexy playtimes, so she keeps those as trophies. Now she's much more circumspect and hasn't had sexy playtimes since that fling with Hercules.

She also collects the files of every case that she's won. The ones that meant something to her personally or where a miscarriage of justice wea righted. Those are the ones she keepss.

Finally. purple things. People give her purple things. She saves them. One of them is a purple Audi = that one she drives.

Mark collects comic books, especially Science Dog. He also collects cult television series and movies, especially zombie films. Millicanon has established that he knows El Santo from his movies, so I think he probably has bootlegs he bought off a friend who got them from a friend in San Diego or Tiajuana. Other series he owns may include "The Tomorrow People," "The Time Tunnel," "Land of the Giants," "The Avengers," "The Prisoner," and "Thunderbirds" (depending on when the DVDs were released).

Tommy most likely collected baseball cards when he was a kid. When his family was still intact, I imagine he'd have had an eye for baseball or hockey memorabilia. Canonically (and currently), he has a collection of t-shirts with vintage hockey logos and hockey events on them, a classic rock band or two, several Irish pride ones. I don't know if that counts as a collection, but it's a manifestation of his personal style.

Also I think he would've amassed a collection of patches and t-shirts from different firehouses. It's not necessarily as a thing that he consciously does, but just the sort of thing that happens among firefighter friends and family.
