I am uncreative today, Milliways, so I'm stealing from something I saw on Plurk.

If your character had a cutie mark, a'la My Little Pony, what would it be?

I really don't want to know what Medic's would be. Probably something that'd make the other ponies back away from him carefully a lot once they realized it was supposed to be a blood splatter or something.

Luchador ponies not only wear face masks, but decorated blankets over their rumps to conceal their cutie marks. Which is probably a good thing because Santo's would be a silver mask. He never goes out in public without both mask and blanket in place.

Varric's would almost certainly be a quill and scroll; Bianca may be his signature weapon, but his big distinguishing skill is what he does with stories.

Tempting as it might be to go for the crowbar it would never have meant anything to him at the age when the cutie marks come in. If Gordon's mark were anything from the game it'd have to be the lambda, but I'm honestly not sure that's appropriate. His singular talent isn't for determining the radioactive decay constant, which is all that lambda would have meant to him at the time. His singular talent is either 'incredible amounts of destruction' or 'accidentally inspiring insane amounts of hope in people, seriously, what the living hell'. Or possibly just endurance, given his canon... anyway, I'd have to think of a symbol for one of those.

Pretty sure Shephard's comes out as a set of crosshairs. Being a Marine is not a special talent. Being able to aim is.

Stacker's would be some kind of pillar. The kind that can't be pushed over, broken down, or moved.

And I really don't know for Ellen and Edward.

The thing is, cutie marks have been seen to predict the future in an oblique way. Twilight's cutie mark, for example, represents her role as the capstone of the Elements of Harmony, despite the fact that she wouldn't meet the rest of the Element bearers (or even know what the Elements are) for the better part of a decade after the mark appeared. So Gordon having a lambda mark is entirely appropriate.

Quin would have a cloak...I think? I'm not so good with these. Something to suggest stealth. Another thought is a blaster and lightsaber crossed or a star shape that is split into black and white like the Yin Yang, suggesting his struggles with the Force.

Jess's would be either a spider web or maybe a masquerade mask.

Brimstone's would be an open book.

Andrea's would be crosshairs.

Anton's would be a treble clef or a maze.

Hank's would be a beaker or a drafting compass, maybe a wrench.

Mulan's would be a sword or a shield, or both crossed.

Two shields, probably with the Guardian icon pattern, one with brighter colours overlapping another with duller (i.e. brass/bronze instead of bright yellow). This would be in contrast to Matrix's, which would be just the duller-coloured shield. Matrix's pony name would be Heavy Duty, backup!Enzo's would be Double Duty. (Dot's would be Civic Duty.)

Mark's would be a stone wall, or a castle. His pony name would be Bastion or Bulwark.

X's would be two parallel slashes like clawmarks

Dean's would be the Impala.

Raven's would be a black feather and smoke.

Galadan's would be a void.

Wonder Woman's would be her lasso.

Nynaeve's would be a healing plant of some sort. Or possibly balefire.

Sam Tyler's would be his leather jacket from the 70s.

Michael's would be a sword. Or a red vespa.
fairy_fixit: Fairy Fixit's trolian icon is not a Jersey devil I promise :P (trollian)

I am not to sure for Fairy Fixit but her Trollian icon seems fine for such purposes.

I already put Amascut into pony form, and an ear of wheat and a sickle suit her well, both as a goddess of rebirth before her crazy and a goddess of destruction after/during her crazy.

I'm tempted to have Sariel's be some sort of variation on a feather and a star. Hmm. She's a pegasus pony as well, I suspect.

Tommy's would be the flame part of the FDNY logo. Like so:

Steve's is his shield.

Merlin's is a dragon.

I'm torn as to whether Bilbo's would be the One Ring, Sting the sword, or something else.

Cecil's is the logo for Night Vale Public Radio.

Sadie's is a martini glass with extra olives.

Jack's is the butterfly of Gilboa.

I'll take suggestions for Lydia and the Ice King.
a1enzo: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] a1enzo 2014-04-11 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I am picturing the glass as being COMPLETELY FULL of olives.

The Ice King is an interesting one. I think it would be reasonable for his mark to have been a crown even as Simon, since he was an antiquarian and a crown is a reasonably representative artifact. (Plus, as was mentioned earlier, cutie marks can sometimes be prophetic/fate-related.)

Silly, if it were full of olives there would be no room for martini!

I'd vote the Ring for Bilbo, on the grounds that a) he was very important to its story and b) he's one of the only two entities known to have given it up by their own choice.

In insomnia, a very late response!

Henry: Is a kid, arguably he might not need one yet, but it's totally his storybook.

Eriond: A bright, almost glowing white circle. It in fact matches Horse's and Garion's birth mark on his hand. (Really, I think it has to be that.)

Lois: Daily Planet globe or pad of paper and pen.

Tavi: I had him turned pony in Cubefall once. At the time, we didn't know about how ponies ascend to alicorns, or I'd've been able to do it differently. That said, his cutie mark would show pretty late. It's either the yellow (gold really) seven-pointed star (the First Lord's symbol), the stylized eagle of Alera (or that shape but black, which is the Battlecrow symbol of his Legion), or the latter over the former, which seems complex for a cutie mark, but, well, his special talent is leading Alera. The fun thing is that each of those can be taken as 'serving Alera/the First Lord' before his identity's known rather than being First Lord. (The third is more suspect, I think, but still explainable before the reveal.)

Tyler's is one very hard cutie mark to pin down, because not only is the lad destined not to bear any metahuman powered feats for the labors his parents put him through, he's still destined to be a big damn factor for the entire human race. Which has come to pass, in the form of someone picking him to decide if humanity would continue to receive superpowers or not.

On the other hand...he's definitely becoming a superhero. There is no questioning this because at this time, the boy has passed the windmill. His life is just too darn weird for him to live as a mundane.

If he were to exist in the FiM universe, so much use of blankets, patches and full body and mane dyes and changes.

....Actually, a blue or silver domino mask might just work out for his cutie mark come to think of it...

FWIW, changing one's cutie mark with body paint to disguise one's identity is a canon thing in the MLP comics.

[personal profile] basic_powers 2014-04-13 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but you think he'd do anything by halves when it'd come to being someone else for a little while? That boy is going to have back-up plans for when body paint just won't stick long enough to get the job done.

Dixie: A lace fan or a victrola.

Juliet: A crossbow.
