Are...are OOC introductions a thing we do here? I can't find any evidence of it, but I've never played at a game or DR or anything quite like this before and I'll admit I'm a bit confused. Also I see references to an AIM chat but I can't seem to find the actual name of the room anywhere?

Anyway. I'm Lu, I just apped the Balladeer here because I'm a huge Sondheim dork and because someone from this game spoke to me once. The chat room is called crackinthewall, there should be a tag that's where's crackchat at. A lot of the game ends up in there, its a good way to meet a number of people, but its not required. I recommend watching the Daily Entertainments and participating in them as they give a great sense of who's played and you can start conversations about any threads you might want.

Also every profile will have some contact information on it, which will provide a great way to connect. Basically reach out and you'll be meet halfway, ask questions and enjoy yourself.

My biggest advice is to tag out, put up EPs and get connected as you'll find that the more your character is involved, the more you will be. Read various threads and posts to see what's normal, check in chat if or post here if you have any questions and we'll help.

Yeah, this isn't really my first run on DWRP, but this place is set up kinda different from anything I'm accustomed to. It's probably because of the age - I remember seeing this place around on LJ back when people actually used LJ. xD And okay, is an EP just a post? I feel like the P stands for Post.

Hello and welcome! (Yeah, there's... not really any other game quite like this one out there. But yes, new people usually do throw up some kind of 'hi, I'm new!' thing - I think it's just been a while.)

The crackchat is optional, and in addition to AIM people are pretty open to in-journal PMs and email for plotting shenanigans. Most of us don't have Plurk (I think once someone went 'what is a plurk and do I want one?'), but a couple of us do. (Mine's setecastronomy; feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions. I've been here the whole time and know the lay of the land pretty well.)

Hmm, I may have to troll him with one of my pair of professional assassins... XD

Welcome to Milliways, Lu! I'm Wingy, and to answer your question, we don't often have people do OOC introductions--which is kind of a problem here, but c'est la vie, figuratively speaking--but it's lovely to see someone who does! As said above our AIM chat is usually active in the afternoon and evening EST, though we've got people from all over that are in it, and we'd love to have you there if you get on AIM and feel like braving the weird and wonderful of milliwaysers.

We also have the DEs (Daily Entertainments) through which a lot of us will bounce ideas and random tidbits that might be cool for another person to look at or incorporate, so be sure to check those out! Sometimes it's the easiest way for those of us who may be canon-blind on a particular pup (which, sadly, is the case for me and the Balladeer, though I look forward to seeing him in play) to learn about them and their milieux, and talk to the muns who don't often get on AIM. But never feel bad about dropping some of us a line in other ways, we're happy to meet new folks and try new stuff with you.

So if you're confused and in need of some guidance, or a crash course as to what specific brand of crazy Milliways is, feel free to contact one of us! Or if you just want to chat, or say hi, or anything else, really.

Hi, Wingy! I'll have to head into the AIM chat tomorrow, maybe; this evening kinda got away from me. I find OOC posts are a good way to just get out a general introduction though, much less piecemeal than trying to track down everyone in chat, especially in a larger game.

I've seen the DEs, and I think that's a really neat idea! It'd be cool to do in some of my other games, if it wouldn't mean spamming the hell out of the meme comms. xD And I hadn't really expected anyone to recognize him, I am resigned to being largely completely alone in my love of this particular musical/presidential history in general. You'd think I got into the history through the musical but it was totally the other way around. It's mostly quite accurate though!

(And yes, as others have said and as you've already picked up, AIM is the dominant form of communication in terms of OOC touching base while you're threading -- but it's certainly not required either, and plenty of people use email or OOC comments or whatever else works for them as required.)

It's a good one! One of his lesser-known shows, really, but they say it has a cult following. Sadly, I rarely encounter other cult members. It had a bit of a tough time getting out the door - it was meant to debut on Broadway in 2001, but considering the events of September 11th a show so highly critical of American political culture (not to mention explicitly focused on, well, assassination) was considered in poor taste, so it got pushed back.
