DE: Going on an adventure

 I'm feeling a bit meme-ish this morning so I present the Road trip Meme:
1-Tag in with pups you'd like to play with.
2-Others tag in and your pups are now in some sort of vehicle for an extended period of time.
3-Run it like a thread and feel free to have as many pup in one thread as you can stand, the vehicle is bigger on the inside than it looks.
4-Feel free to tag in with approved pups, retired pups, understudy pups, or even yourself.

Or, if you are not feeling like the above, all of your headvocies are now in one vehicle on an extended road trip. How do they get along? Who's the drive, navigator, DJ, and food chooser? What roles have I missed?

Sunshine's car may be old, beat-up, and cranky, but it gets her places. And she'd argue the occasionally-missing third gear keeps things interesting.

The cars interesting quirks eventually convince the small bug-woman riding along to complain.

"I know I told you I am not that kind of engineer but can we please please please pull over so I could take a look at the engine? And maybe the transmission? Please?"

She is just the kind of small that maybe should be riding in a child safety seat, but those bother her wings. Still their destination is to far out to fly there and there's no functional fairy ring out there yet!

"If you want," Rae admits, wryly, shifting gear as she looks for a likely stretch of shoulder. It's not like they're going to be late to anything. "Though I tell you this isn't anything out of the ordinary - it's always like this."

"But was it always like this?" She pauses, then wonders out loud, "It might have been built that way. But even if it wasn't, what would I be able to do it I found the problem? I can't patch it up with fungus, really. This needs someone good with metals, or plastics, maybe. It might take ages to get new parts. Unless... it's just something loose that needs to be tightened. You know what, nevermind."

Yeah, not that kind of engineer. Just curious.

"It was already ancient when I got it," Rae grins, listening to the faerie's stream of words and pulling back onto the road. "It runs - that's all I want from it. Didn't feel like getting attached to a new car after losing the last one."

"What happened to your last one?" the faerie asks.

"It got taken when I got kidnapped a couple of years ago," Rae replies, checking her blind spot before shifting lanes. She can be almost nonchalant about it, now. "The authorities never found it. It'd be too obvious a piece of evidence to leave behind, I suppose."

Her eyes open wide (as if they weren't big enough already). "Really? Was it a random kidnapping or where they specifically after you?" Nonchalant hopefully means its not too sensitive a subject.

"Surprisingly, a random kidnapping," Rae remarks, wry. "If they had known who I was and had been targeting me specifically, I think they would've gone about it differently."

The way it went was... awful, but still miles better than could have reasonably been hoped for.

Which is why it's not too sensitive a subject any more.

"So, luckily, they where unprepared."

"Where you actually expecting something like that? Still, how awful."

"Wasn't expecting it at all," Rae replies. "I'd just come out to the lake to watch the sunset and be alone with my thoughts - they had other plans."

Of course, those plans didn't exactly work out like they wanted, did they?

"I don't mean to criticize, but are we really meant to be moving this rapidly?" Isabella asks as she white knuckles the arm rest. She fears this conveyance is for the mad and wonders why she ever agreed to it.

Hopefully nobody has anything valuable in their luggage because Red uses brute strength over Tetris-style packing to cram it all in and get the trunk closed.

Dusting his hands off, he rounds the car.

"I got shotgun, who's driving?"

"I'll drive!" Volunteers the shortest member of this trip. She's so short, in fact, that she would likely need at least a couple of phone books to see over the dashboard. "I can't be much harder than driving a wagon right?"

Red eyes the small woman skeptically.

"This thing has horse power, not horses. Your wagons got a clutch and a Hemi?" Because the black 1970 Dodge Challenger he lugged out of the garage (lugged, because he can't drive, either), sure does.

She just looks up at him and smiles, though there's something in her eyes that might seem like it's charting the path of least resistance to his eyes. It's nothing personal. When the whole world is so much larger than you, you tend to chart paths of violence before hand.

"I have no idea what you just said."

If Red notices he doesn't react, mostly because he's confident he could take the little lady if she decided to take a go at it.

"Exactly. We need a cabby." He looks around for any likely candidates, then raises his flesh hand to stuff two fingers in his mouth so that he can give a sharp whistle.

Who knows, somebody might answer.

Mulan stands at the vehicle and waits for her companions. She doesn't trust the metal wagon and wonder how it will move without horses. Magic likely.

Jay leans on his bike, an extra helmet dangling from his hand. "Wanna come for a ride?"

There's a ten-year old eyeing his bike, impressed.

Jay smiles and offers her the helmet. "Shall we take a trip around the mountain, Red?"

The girl's face lights up like the sun coming out from behind a cloud, beaming at the offer and the nickname.

"Sure!" she nods cheerfully, accepting the helmet and putting it on - though it's a bit big for her at the moment. "How fast can it go?"

Jay drops to one knee to adjust the strap, making sure it's secure on her. "Very fast. But I'm a very good rider so as long as you hold on to me nice and tight, you'll be perfectly safe."

He climbs onto the bike and offers her his hand.
