Infirmary

Hi folks,

As of this post, Guppy is going to be giving Simon a hand with running the infirmary (very kindly agreed by Batya and Bing, thanks :) ).

This is largely for time zone purposes so that people have someone to get in touch with if there's, like, a cannibal or something, or someone needs posting access to [community profile] ways_infirmary. You will likely notice no perceptible change otherwise!

We're taking the opportunity, while we have your attention, to update the list.

If you play a medic, a healer, or anyone who helps in the infirmary more than occasionally please read on and if you so desire add your character in at the bottom.

If you already joined the list in the past, we'd still like to know if you're here.

How does the list work?
The infirmary has always been a voluntary, non-screened service run on trust, and this isn't going to change. The list is an IC and OOC way of keeping track of who we have as a regular.

Do I have to be on the list to work in the infirmary?
No! Though if you are doing more than emergency work, you probably should be.

Why would I want to be on the list?
It's good to know IC and OOC who we've got, because there might be something right up your pup's street. For example, if you're a magical healer, and someone has a magical disease, we might be able to point them in your direction. Ditto pups with a specific field, e.g. psychiatry.

Also if your pup wants paying expenses IC we would need to know they work there. We don't usually charge the patients, I know a few people sell wares.

Does my pup have to be medically qualified to be on the list?
No. Your pup is trusted not to lie about how qualified they are though.

Do Simon and Guppy police the people on the list?
Nah, unless it's a specific plot, and only at the request of the medic mun. Patient safety would be something they'd help with (if it's medical incompetence make sure you talk to the medic mun first, because most medic muns aren't medically trained). Breaking the rules generally, that's up to Security.

What do I do IC to get on the list?
Talk to or write a note to either Simon Tam or Guppy Sandhu

Questions? Ask below!

Otherwise - please add your medic to the list. If you have never met Guppy or Simon feel free to either leave a note or tag us IC.

Please comment with your pup's name, how they want to help out (medic, healer, helper etc) and if they have any qualifications.

Gavroche is a healer, knows basic first aid of the mundane kind, and is studying anatomy to be able to do more.

Also, all my military/warrior pups (Michael Carpenter, Ichabod, Sharpe if I ever play him again) know how to patch up quite serious injuries, and Roshaun can do healing wizardries although it's not his speciality.

Charles Xavier is a healer of sorts, he's a telepath who's studied a great deal of psychology and neuroscience and has helped various people in Milliways.

I know we've had a hand waved first aid session with Hank but I would interested in further lessons. I guess he could count for helper at this point?

Not intending to threadjack, but Sariel might be interested in the basic first aid course. To her mind, it could come in useful if she's caught in a situation with little or none of the tech she's used to and somebody needs help.

Canon is vague, with nothing but a "he graduated Harvard at 15". I've decided this means he has a dual Masters in Engineering and Biochemistry, assuming you can get away with out specific medical knowledge and get a Biochemistry degree. This is mostly to allow his building Cerebro and the Blackhawk as well as develop a formula which suppresses aspects of the mutant gene.

I do mean to get him into medicine, likely during the decade after Cuba.

I figure a basic knowledge of anatomy is likely a given for him, especially since he's a bibliovore, but he knows he has no practical experience nor the specialized set of skills which doctors have. Perhaps his work within Milliways leads him to pursuing a medical degree back home.

This is very true!

Lucas has never been formally associated with the infirmary, nor does he necessarily want to be. But he has PSI healing powers and heals other patrons with their permission should he encounter someone in need. His journal also has access to the infirmary comm, which came about due to plot reasons. So IC he's just doing his own thing, but OOC I don't mind him being called up for medic-type threads.

Nynaeve is a magical healer who can deal with everything from physical wounds to magical spells to problems with the mind.

I cannot remember if she is on the list from last time, so.

I am easy either way. If you'd like Nynaeve to talk to Guppy, let me know and I will tag in!

As applicable to organics, Enzo knows mainly what Guppy's taught him (first aid, using the fuser, doing stitches, whatever else there might have been). On the sprite side of things, he learned field medicine in his Guardian training. He's also good with just being a gofer or a babysitter, and cannot catch human diseases (without first turning human himself).

Elrond is a healer and has done a little work in Milliways already.
He'd be happy to be in the list.

It's Elven style healing which seems to involve a lot of flowing curtains, hazy light, and ethereal singing. He is also really good at setting bones, handling battle injuries, and calming people down.

I'll have him tag Guppy.

Rory's a nurse!

I am trying to get back into the game!

He did volunteer his services and helped out during the Allpocalypse, when he was last 'officially' in.

So - uh, I will have him tag Guppy too.

Kim Ford ([personal profile] bannion_sight) is a primary care doctor who sees people in the infirmary and takes the occasional on-call shift (handwaved lately, but she's available for plot). I think she already has posting access - if she doesn't still, can she, please?

Moiraine ([personal profile] blue_ajah) has similar skills to Nynaeve (above), although much less strong. She's helped in emergencies before and is happy to do so again, but doesn't consider herself affiliated with the infirmary (IC, that is; I'd be happy to have her have post access if she doesn't already, OOC).

Bruce Banner has handwavey canon medical skills of some degree, which I've millicanoned to a couple of years training in medicine somewhere along with his other degrees. He's an expert in a lot of crazy biochemistry, thanks to working on the super serum first, and then later on his own cellular biology. He's literally done nothing but work on his own cells and blood and mutated DNA etc for the last five years or so, and he's a mega-genius so I'm going to guess he's pretty up to scratch on anatomy and research stuff.

Little practical experience though, apart from on himself. He's helped out a couple of times in the infirmary as you know, and he's got permission from Simon Tam to shadow medics to learn the more basic medicine stuff. I've just been really lax about playing him. but, yes! He's available for fixing stuff, and helping out, and doing whatever. It'll be good for him, in fact.

Yep! I think he might have two PhD's, but I can't remember. An academic doctor though, not medical.
