Daily Entertainment - Could We Start Again Please edition

Good morning, Milliways!

Today, I realized that I have to start something that I've been working on completely over. It's not a fun experience. So that got me thinking:

If your character could start one thing over/change one decision, what would it be? Do you think the inevitable would happen anyway, or could they actually, in the words of A Knight's Tale, change their stars?

At this point, Mark goes over the fight with his father regularly, trying to figure out if there was a way to beat him. Every time, he comes to the conclusion that Omni-Man is older, stronger, more experienced, and more willing to kill to win the fight. (The latter throws off his thought process a bit; if Omni-Man was more willing to kill, why is Mark still alive?) He doesn't see anyway that he could beat his father alone, and he doesn't want to think about what would happen to his friends if they helped them in the fight.

Charlie would never ever smoke.

Kirk would avoid being an admiral. And stay on his ship without any interruptions.

My other pups don't have anything so clear cut.

Actually, at this point part of the reason Stacker Pentecost hasn't come into the Bar much is because he's got a situation like this staring him in the face. He met a post-canon Chuck Hansen despite he himself being about a week from the Triple Event, and now he's trying to work out exactly what he can or can't do if he wants to make sure the Breach gets closed with a minimum of human deaths, compared to what Chuck Hansen says he did.

(I may bring him in this coming week to do some of this debating in-Bar, but I need to talk to the other Pacific Rim muns first.)

I think there's not really any decisions of hers that X would change, or at least nothing that she would change knowing only what she did then. If she could bring future knowledge back, she'd like to find a way to save Jay and Laurie and the kids on the bus that exploded. Just knowing the bus was wired would be enough. So. There's that.

I think she also wonders, sometimes, or could wonder, or might wonder about wondering what would have happened if Sarah Kinney just took X and kept running after they rescued Sarah's niece and Laura's cousin from the pedophile serial killer. Or if she'd gotten on the bus with Megan and her aunt. Or if Steve Rogers hadn't snagged her while she was talking to Wolverine. But mostly that first one. And because it is mostly that first one, she doesn't think about it. Because it's done.

Oh boy...great question but you are going to get several answers for my pups. =]

Hank: It hasn't happened yet, but he'd wish the talk with Raven when he offered her the serum would have gone differently. He'd say he find some way for her to understand him, to see what he was trying to say. I would wish that he listened to her and took her words to heart. I still think he would have administered the serum to himself but I'd hope he would try and talk with her again, letting her know he was wrong and apologize for the hurtful things he said to her.

Would things have turned out differently? Good question. I don't think so. Maybe Hank would have gone with Erik and Raven after Cuba, but I think Hank would quickly decide that Erik's methods were too militant. I have other ideas but they would be spoilers for Days of Future Past.

Andrea would say that she'd prefer not have met Raphael. He messes with her head too much and makes her think of things she can't have. Would things be different? I'm going to say no. They would meet in other circumstances since he is big in the Bouda Clan and a business leader in Atlanta.

I'll have to think on my other pups.

About the only thing I can think of changing if I could would be to not hide from the world when my powers started going fritzy. If I hadn't pushed everyone who cared about me away, maybe I wouldn't have been such a good target for the skrulls. Yeah, they'd still have tried their invasion but I wouldn't have been the face they used to do it.

Barbossa would never admit it, but he probably racks his brain for a plot that would have worked around the Aztec gold curse.

Tarik's conviction is pretty rock-solid. He probably goes over past missions regularly but it's to prepare for the future, not ponder the past.

And Bronn comes from very early in his canon and he doesn't seem like the sort to dwell in the past either, at all.

Aheh. Welcome to Enjolras's current in-bar endeavors with Bossuet! Though that's less changing one decision and more "we did the best we could with what we knew, but we could do better if we knew more." We will see how it plays out. (As with more historical events, yes, it could totally have gone better, although whether the 1832 uprising could actually have succeeded is a giant question I do not feel competent to answer.)

Cosette has not hitherto been responsible for any decisions she deeply regrets or would like to start over! She's only 16, and not a 16-year-old who's ever been empowered to make a lot of major decisions in her own life, until her romance with Marius. There's some upcoming end-of-canon stuff that she'll regret once it's happened, though.

Trowa would much prefer to have not killed a bunch of his squadmates when he was 12ish. Um. Yeah, he would like to change that decision, although I don't know what repercussions that would have for the rest of his life and he would also be a little wary of that.

River... once would have changed the decision about going to the Academy. Now, that's a much harder call, because there's a lot of stuff she doesn't want to change that came out of that -- about herself, and about her world (e.g. the destruction of the Academy and certain unscrupulous politicians' careers.) She'd debate it a lot.

Regan would not debate it for long at all, however. DON'T LET RIVER GO TO THE ACADEMY, DON'T DRIVE OFF SIMON WHEN HE EXPRESSES CONCERN ABOUT IT.

Clare... I mean, Clare would change Teresa's death in a heartbeat, but it wasn't really a decision of Clare's that led to that in any direct way. Other than Clare's insistance on staying with Teresa, and she wouldn't change that. So I'm not really sure. Clare doesn't spend a lot of time in regret and rehashing.

Thor, aheh. Yes. There are some Loki-related things that Thor would change the handling of in a heartbeat if he got the chance.

Clementine: She would've skipped the showgirl stage and been a cop from the beginning. But it wouldn't change her reckless laziness one iota.

Dixie: Wouldn't avoid marrying Doc, but might have avoided her time as a Mol. I don't know - she's not one to regret things.

Juliet: Really doesn't have too many regrets. Maybe she'd warn her mom about her stepfather? Maybe she wouldn't let herself get caught by Yang?

Eponine: Would have run away with Gavroche when he left the family.

Pinkie: NO REGRETS EVER. Maybe she wouldn't clone herself but eh!
