DE: Let me entertain you

First, a bit of housekeeping. I've noticed we have a fair bit ofnew and returning folk, so I thought it might be a good idea to outline who is doing what as far as the daily entertainment and shout outs go.

The daily entertainment is now being handled by myself, [personal profile] bjornwilde , Monday thru Wednesday and by Quinn, of the [personal profile] damncompass , Thursday and Friday. We have also created a DE suggestion box here (it's also the first link on the sidebar of my journal) and give credit when we use topics.

We've decided to open up the weekend edition (usually posted on Saturday) to whomever would like it. The exception to the weekend DE is the first last Saturday of each month, which is reserved for [personal profile] havetubawilltravel  's "App this please", "New plot meme", and "Test drive".

Wednesday Night Shout Outs are posted by [personal profile] ceitfianna and the Sunday Indulgences are posted by [personal profile] misslucyjane . Both are typically posted in the evening.

"But what if I want to post one of these?", I might hear you say. Well, that's possible. Just contact the relevant person and ask. You may get permission or you may not, I know sometimes I have themes planned and other times I'm struggling to come up with a topic, you never know.

Okay, enough of that. Onto today's topic: What is your pups idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?

One of these days Ellen has got to show Hank some of the old Captain Cosmos stuff.

He and Mark could get into a discussion as well. Comics are of his passions too.

I'm not sure if Hank would be into zombie movies, though he might find the social commentary in the original "Night of the Living Dead" interesting, since it's only about five years in front of him.

Tyler Darrow enjoys long walks in quiet neighbourhoods, books he didn't have to write or edit, good music, good pub food and time with people who don't think of him as a potential target.

He's also developed a taste for low budget Klingon productions from the Star Trek universe. Because low budget doesn't mean bad effects when you have actual spaceships and transporters available.
Subtitled only, of course. The dubbing VAs don't have the same snarl, you know?

Janet enjoys silly drinks and punching bad guys.
Um. Yeah.
There's reasons why she hangs out with Thor in canon.

Sex.

Eric also enjoys literature and good recordings of Swedish folk music (this is canon).
And exotic dancing.

Ellen is very fond of pre-War comic books. She does not deal well with rock and roll music much further along than Dion and the Belmonts, but she likes most of what Three Dog plays (exceptions of note: "Civilization", "Butcher Pete"). She's also fond of verbal storytelling and books.

Gordon is and always has been a science fiction and to a lesser degree fantasy nerd. Major points of interest: Star Wars, Dune (Frank Herbert only kthx), Lord of the Rings. Music played on odd instruments is good- he used to have a hobby of playing music by running his finger around the wet rims of differently sized glass bowls- and he also harbors a concealed fondness for country music.

Shephard is fond of movies where things blow up, and of murder mysteries both written and televised. He actually has a pretty good background in Shakespeare thanks to his high school library, although it worried his teachers kind of a lot when one of them realized he'd memorized a not-inconsiderable portion of Titus Andronicus. He has little interest in any country's version of football, but for sports as entertainment figures you can't beat rugby and/or hockey. Music of preference is heavy metal.

I'm sure I've got answers for the others, but not right off the top of my head.

Jay has his own taste in music. Mostly rock, slightly on the heavy side. He enjoys monster movies (thanks Rae) and good action movies but loathes most heist movies because they don't give enough detail for him to plan how he would do it.

David loves cooking shows. Sad but true. Especially ones from exotic places. He has a greater collection of cookbooks than he does music. He reads and meditates a lot and prefers non-fiction and biographies over fiction.

Olivier loves music, in many forms. If someone's playing in the bar he'll often sit and listen for as long as he can. He loves the choirs of the Christian church, the soaring hymns especially. He however hates puppet shows. He finds them vulgar and often worryingly violent.

Minx loves her video games! Anything but racing games (cause the driving dynamics are usually woefully inaccurate and piss her off. She'd gladly spend the weekend on the couch doing nothing but eating junk food and playing but her work requires that she stay in shape so she sometimes sacrifices sleep rather than give up game time.

Mark loves comics. He reads a lot of them, though he's not a collector. Given the absence of the ubiquitous long boxes that comic collectors use in the illustrations of his bedroom, my headcanon says that he reads a lot of them, and then, every year or so, either donates them to friends or sells them at the local used book store, except for some of his favorites, like Science Dog. Those go into the single long box that he keeps in a closet in the hall outside his bedroom (the Grayson house has a weird surplus of linen closets, inspired by an example I found during house-hunting recently).

Mark also enjoys zombie movies. He has an extensive collection of them, and his usual birthday habit is to watch the original Romero trilogy, along with two or three others. He also likes science-fiction, and has a collection of books and movies, though not an excessive one.

(Headcanon tells me that The Walking Dead is not present in the Kirkman-verse as a comic, though Mark will encounter it eventually.)

Pst, ATP has been moved to the last weekend of the month, due to the fact that the [personal profile] app_this_plz schedule's changed.
