Good morning, Milliways! I have a bit of a theoretical question for you all today.

In the Persona series of video games, characters gain control of a persona, or part of their soul that fights for them in battles. Personas are a representation of how each person presents themselves to the world. They are mythological, historical, and fictional figures, either powerful or playful or somehow connected to the person using them.

What would your character's Persona be?

Bonus points: In the game, each character/Persona is connected to one of the Major Arcana of the Tarot. Which Arcana would your character be?

Because I don't know Persona at all: is this the Persona's form something the character (subconsciously or consciously) chooses? Or is it something that's just a fitting reflection of their soul, like a Patronus or something, rather than something they would necessarily choose for themselves?

Good question!

It's not something anyone chooses, it's more like a Patronus that reflects who they are. For example, there is a persona for the main character that's, uh, well, a large penis in a cart. (Don't ask. I have no clue.)

Oh, this one is fascinating! ETA: And I didn't quite read the description of personas as well as I could have...

My first impression for Jess is either Lolith an Emma Peel-esk character or Mata Hari. No clue about her Arcana.

Ethan's persona would be a dire wolf, a gunslinger silhouette, or Annie Oakley (though she's a contemporary of his). His Arcana would be the Hanged Man.

Mulan's persona, of course, would be a red-hued dragon and her Arcana would be the Chariot; though I feel like it should be some form of the I Ching.

Andrea's persona would be a spotted hyena either a knight in platemail or a knight in modern S.W.A.T. gear. Her Arcana would be Strength.

Sam Wilson's person would be a falcon, of course, and his Arcana would be Temperance.

Lady Trent is another who would have a dragon, though a more Western styled one. Her Arcana would be the Fool.

Quinlan's persona would be a hooded figure in shadows which could be a Jedi or a Sith, depending on how you looked at it, or it could be anooba which is a wolf-like creature. The Krayt dragon, Anzat vampire (which would disturb him greatly) or Nightsister would not be personas he'd try to show the world. His Arcana would be the Moon.

Which leaves Hank, who would have a Flash Gordon like space hero as his persona. I'm tempted to say his Arcana would be the Hermit but that is more is past than his future.

Amascut is already mythical, but if you want to go even more mythical than her, there is Wen. Ironically, Wen is the elder goddess of cold, but also of the end times and of looking back at your past. Ful would have fit since she is connected with fire, but she is more connected with beginnings and her fire is more like the forge fire and the fire of passion. Mah would make a good persona too and could substitute for Wen, since she is personally involved with Amascut. But she is the elder goddess of potential and the light side and dark side of the Anima, so she is even more associated with beginnings than Ful is.

[in rereading what a persona is I understand that it is more of a way of dealing with the world (like an actual persona!), so Amascut's is Wen, definitely. She destroys things and can't get over her past.]

Major Arcana: Tower -- even though she never quite got along with the guy :P

Fairy Fixit's persona, despite her hatred of him right now, would be Guthix, god of balance and nature, and an anti-god of sorts. Major Arcana: The Magician/Artisan

This is a tricky one so I'll do my best to make sense of it.

Will's persona would be something connected to loyalty, perhaps a faithful dog.

Charles would be a teacher or someone close to listening; Socrates perhaps or Chiron.

Ivan's would be a historical second in command and I'm blanking on ideas.

Moist's would be a mirror or a prism, something that shifts and reflects depending on who's looking at it and how its being used.

William's would be a worn glove with grooves from his lariat and his gun with blood staining the fingers.

Jane's would be a stack of manuscript paper or one of her books.

Sameth's would be an anvil or hammer from a forge or a stone from the Wall.

Demeter's would be a sheaf of wheat as that's one of her representations.

Tumnus' would be I think his umbrella as he watches over and protects as much as he can.

The Pirate King's would be a sword.

I like Tumnus' and think it really fits him. = ]
