Say hello to one Claire Randall Fraser

You might have heard the name. There's this show, it's called Outlander, kinda been all over the place.

It's based on (so far) 8 books, one graphic novel, and several novellas. Which gives me much more fun to play with.

So if you have a pup related to any of the following:
- Time Travel (in her case, through Merlin's Stones, a group of standing stones in Scotland that only certain people can activate) (PS: The Doctor(s) MIIIGHT be interested. There are OOC and IC tie ins both to Doctor Who.)

- The American Revolution
- The 1940's
- The 1740's
- Being Thought or Actually Being a Witch (Part V, I believe, of Book the First is called: Thou Shalt Not Suffer a Witch to Live.)
- Being Separated from Your Spouse by ~200 Years


...Well. Let's just say your relevant pup might want to give Mistress Fraser a tag or two.

We should plot, then. As that's Claire's future (6th-8th book) though it surprises her NOT AT AT ALL. (Well, it surprises her a little he lives that long.) And I've a trick figured out that canon provides where anything she learns in Milliways that might mess with her own time line barring we get a Jamie and go AU post-1st book BECAUSE I LOATHE THE SECOND BOOK SO MUCH I CONSIDER NOT BUYING IT AND COMPLETING MY HARDBACK COLLECTION change.

We should REALLY plot, because the General's wife is a physician, you see, who went with her husband more than once. And the books specifically say that she ages quite well and no one guesses the right decade, let alone year, of her age.

*smiles and points at the above reply to Ichabod* It's not necessary that they meet IN Milliways--at least, they only need meet in Milliways if they meet when she's younger.

They can bond! Over so many things. (No, really. SO. MANY. THINGS.) Though iirc, Katrina never actually got tied to a stake and nearly burned to death.

She might actually have been burned all the way to death; show canon is still sitting on the fence about this. But she's hardly older than she was when Ichabod 'died', so she can't have lived much longer. There is some very crucial information about her that we don't have; hence her user name never_lost_faith.

...It would be quite fun if Ichabod and Katrina meet older!Claire first--she was a physician on the battlefield--but younger!Claire meets them here AFTER they've meet her older self.

No, I didn't -- tie-in novels aren't usually considered completely canon, but this one looks actually helpful, and it's affordable in the kindle version, so I think I'll get it.

I'll just bring Katrina to whatever version of Claire has an EP first, if that is all right; I might bring her into the bar first as she is not ordinarily there. I have plans tonight, but tomorrow, I could EP her.

It's supposed to contain hints relevant to the second season, but I'm not certain that's true. Useful, though, probably.

Works for me. Tomorrow night is perfect for me, actually, to bring Claire in the first time--my schedule is such that M, W, TH, F, and SAT nights are generally good for RP to one extent or another, with exceptions, of course.

I remember reviewing one of the earlier Outlanders for the online book magazine I project managed and wrote/copyedited for in the late 90s, so it rings a bell with me, but I never felt the impetus to read it, say sorry. Oh my, those were the days. I remember doing a review about Prisoner of Azkaban when that came out here; Harry Potter was still a new thing, then...

You might try the graphic novel. It's the first book from Jamie's perspective, and same author--she started out writing Disney comics, of all things.

Plus, despite marrying a Scot, her 1940's husband was a good university professor and Claire, herself, is English.

Anything that helps convince her she's not losing her mind is a good thing! ...Anything that helps her drink less, given how often they've shown it only 5 episodes into the show, even if I'm using the books, is probably also a good thing.

I don't mind, and will, but I deliberately chose things only mentioned in articles in places like EW in the past few weeks or in the pilot. And all but one appears in the first 10 minutes of the pilot and the show summary.

I will, as said! But since the pilots been available for free for months, I admit I don't think of this as spoiling anything.

Claire also killed at least one patient in her care she knew had no chance of surviving.

That would be the 1940's killing.

The 1740's is so much more fun. And involves dirks. And kilts. And her trying to explain the concept of disinfectant. (Okay, that's not the killing, but it's still hilarious when they try to tell her what St Paul says about a woman being quiet and she responds with, "To hell with you and St. Paul both, get out of the way before you break this man's wrist!" She's such a SWEET Catholic girl.)

Natasha was a perfectly normal (albeit genius) Soviet schoolgirl. Unfortunately, she lived in Stalingrad, which was NOT a good place to be in 1942-1943. So aged fourteen, she started killing people and then joined the Red Army properly. Which turned into working for the NKVD/KGB - not that she admits the last bit in bar at ALL, even if she does sometimes turn up in her uniform. Nope, totally normal admin, that's Natasha. Tooootally normal office-girl. Yep.

Yup! It's the first novel from Jamie's pov! Called The Exile. There's a kindle version and a hardback.
