DE: I hate waking up like this

A writing prompt today:

Your character wakes up to find the vicinity around them completely abandoned, with no one else in sight. What is the cause and what do they do about it?

Depends on how big one counts as a "vicinity." If just in her immediate area being abandoned, Rae would not notice - she lives alone. No one else in sight is normal!

Though, thinking about it, Rae would likely not notice for a while, even if it a larger area. She lives alone and is at work by 4:30am, not normally being in visual or talking distance of someone for the first two hours of the day. If her vicinity counts as her city, she may assume it was just a light traffic day if she didn't see anyone else on the roads at 4:20 in the morning. She would start her day normally, and only notice the difference when Charlie didn't arrive at 6am to start the coffee and open up the coffeehouse. When 6:30 rolls around and no one is showing up at the coffeehouse, then she'd begin to freak out.

So you mean pretty much a typical morning traveling through the Capital Wasteland? Ellen'd just whistle for her dog, probably, because that kind of thing happens all the time when she's on the road.

He'd probably figure Joly has an early lecture that morning and go back to sleep. Then he'd remember the whole "we're dead and not taking classes any more" business and go wandering through Milliways wondering what the hell, until he got tired and settled in to drink heavily until the universe sorted itself out. (If the condition persisted, he'd probably give the labyrinth a try, see if he can blunder into someone that way.)

Jess would likely think something had come up in the middle of the night that required the Avengers. Since she wasn't woken, she'll assume her power set or skills weren't needed and make herself a big breakfast. While the breakfast was cooking, she'd likely check for messages or any signs of foul play. Finding none, she'll enjoy the hell out of having Avengers Tower to herself.

Brimstone would likely collapse in grief for it will mean he failed. If I say more, there'd be spoilers.

Amascut isn't the sort of person who surround herself with people anyhow. But after a bit of exploring, she'll declare something like, "Everyone is gone but I and the world is still here. What camel dung."

Then she'd do a more thorough search for other people just for for the sake of completion or try do determine if it was just an illusion to keep her occupied.

Fairy Fixit would check if she woke up in the right universe.
