It's way too hot to be September right now where I am, but we're verging on October right now, and that means it's an app_this_plz weekend, and you know you've got characters you want to try out.

Brother Jerome doesn't approve of women in general, really.

Cadfael pauses in passing, looking curiously at her work.

"Good afternoon, daughter."

She'd never really been addressed as such, so there's a moment's pause before Matilda lifts her head in recognition. The momk's robe explains his calling her daughter, she could tell.

"Afternoon." She accent's british and her attention's diverted from her work to observe him. "Are those from your garden, or Bar's garden?"

"My own", he tells her. "...well, the abbey's, but I tend and work with the plants."

"Bar here has a nice garden outside. Especially now, there are pumpkins nearly as big as I am." Pumpkins weren't really a big deal in England as they were in America, but she knew of them and knew their significance, and besides it was just exciting to see something that large in the garden.

Though admittedly, Matilda was a mite short for her age (not as short as Lavender though) so comparing her size to a pumpkin may've not been such a feat.

"I'm not sure what a pumpkin may be", he admits, "but any plant your size would be quite a feat."

"Oh, are you from the past too?" She was from the past as well, sort of. There was a definite difference between 1988 and 2014.

"It's a type of gourd. Americans like making food out of it and during Halloween they scoop out its seeds and carve a face into it." Again, not a British custom, or if it was, it wasn't one she's done before, but it was one she'd like to try herself sometime.

"Would you like to see?"

"Oh, gladly!" He smiles, offering a hand. "Through that door, I'd guess?"

She pushes herself off her seat and takes his hand with a grin, all but pulling him towards the door leading to the gardens.

In this area of milliways, the weather is more set to the 'current' calender. As such, a lot of the garden is set for the fall weather. One such vegetable are indeed pumpkins of various sizes.

"These are pumpkins."

He laughs and follows along, pleased by her enthusiasm - it's only right for a child, whatever the reason.

"What an unusual thing. Are they good eating, as well as decorative?"

"They don't have them in your era?" Granted, they weren't too big in her era, but most have heard of them.

"They are!" This was certainly enthusiastic. "Mostly sweets like pumpkin pie, cookies and cup cakes. I've also tried breakfast pancakes made with pumpkin, maybe a few other things, but mostly what I've mentioned."

She was a little girl after all, one could always count on her to make a b-line for baked sweets.

"Not in any part of the world I know. Somewhere, no doubt..." He smiles warmly at the latter part. "I'm not familiar with those types of cake, but pie, of course."
