"I hadn't. Did- did you come from the same door?" she asks, indicating the one she went through.

Cadfael nods. "I did, yes. One of us should try it..."

He's quite willing for it to be him, if she's nervous.

She goes for it, grabbing the doorknob and giving it a twist. It opens on the outside of the train station, concrete and electric lights.

"This is where I was..." she confirms.

"Then that's a very good sign you will be able to return, exactly to where you left."

"Ah, did you want to try?" she asks, letting go of the door.

"I should", he agrees, and steps forward to try in turn.

It leads to an empty room that looks like something between a workshop and a laboratory.

"That's odd..."

[a_rare_benedictine]

"Very." He takes another look at his herbarium, then back at the bar. "And yet we have the evidence of our eyes."

[halfemptyglasses]

"You certainly take things in stride, Brother Cadfael."

[a_rare_benedictine]

"I've seen many things, in my time. What good to protest what is and can't be changed?"

[halfemptyglasses]

"That's... actually a really good point..." she agrees.

[a_rare_benedictine]

Cadfael smiles at her. "But then, you're young. It's the place of the young to rage against the world they find left to them."

[halfemptyglasses]

"I couldn't..." she says, but she's fiddling with her glasses again.

[a_rare_benedictine]

"Has someone told you it's wrong?" he guesses, speaking softly.

[halfemptyglasses]

"No. It's just not in me."

Being angry at the whole world would be too tiring.

"Some are more inclined to peace", he agrees. "And you do strike me as a mild-mannered young lady."
