He shakes his head. "I've never been much further than the forests of Totemburg. Ravens tend to stay close to the territory they know. Unless something forces us to."

[heatherandsteel]

"Totemburg, I've never heard of that before," Which doesn't mean a lot, this Raven could be from a kingdom lost long ago.

[intoaman]

"Where are you from? The misty kingdom thing?"

[heatherandsteel]

"Yes, though its also known as San Francisco," He thinks he could probably take his disguise down but he doesn't know, "If I said I was Daoine Sidhe, would that mean anything to you?"

[intoaman]

"You're a fae. Anyone with half a brain can tell that."

[heatherandsteel]

"They shouldn't be able to, humans shouldn't. Will I be in danger for being Fae here?"

[intoaman]

"Humans are mostly very, very stupid." Diaval intones from considerable experience. "But most of the ones here are nice enough. There are other fae here and no-one really seems to care what you are as long as you don't hurt each other."

[heatherandsteel]

"I wouldn't do that. It only gets worse and then bloody,"

Quentin looks around the Bar to see if anyone's paying attention. This feels dangerous, but this Raven seems truthful. With another whiff of heather and steel, his disguise fades away leaving him with much more vibrant coloring and pointed ears.

[intoaman]

"Huh." He cocks his head to look at Quentin's ears. "You're prettier like that. Less man shaped." He's not overly fond of man-shape. Including his own.

[heatherandsteel]

He rubs at his ears, "Well, I'm not a man, I'm a Daione Sidhe. My name's Quentin."

[intoaman]

Diaval shrugs. "I'm a raven but I don't get to swap shapes on my own. I hate not having my wings." He bods his head in a bow. "Diaval."

[heatherandsteel]

"You don't? Why not?"

All the shifters he knows can change on their own unless they're Changelings and the balance of their blood works against them.

[intoaman]

He shrugs. "I'm not fae. I'm just a raven. My lady made me into a men to save me so now I serve her. Only she has the power to change my shape. I'm whatever she needs me to be." He doesn't resent it but it is hard.

[heatherandsteel]

"Oh, I see,"

That makes perfect sense, not the most pleasant reason to be changed but better than being dead.

[intoaman]

"So, what's your kingdom like?"

[heatherandsteel]

"Good, doing better than it was. There's a new queen."

[intoaman]

"And she's a good queen?"

[heatherandsteel]

"Yes, she is," Once she accepted that she was queen, Arden's taken up the mantle.

[intoaman]

"That's good." He nods, "Strong queens protect the kingdom."

[heatherandsteel]

"Yes, a strong ruler makes everything work better," He will be a strong ruler when its his time, but he hopes that he has centuries before that happens.

[intoaman]

He nods. "The people of the Moors will see that, one day. They don't understand yet but they will. She needs to be a queen to protect them. Only a queen can fight a king."

[heatherandsteel]

Quentin frowns as he's heard that before and it tends to come from rulers who want power more than what's best for their people, "What's this king done?"

[intoaman]

"The king of the human lands was once a petty thief who tried to steal jewels from the waterfall sprits. Maleficent asked the guards to spare him. She blames herself for that. She should have seen the greed in his heart then but she had never had a friend and he was much of an age with him."

"The old king hated the Moors and all the fae and has tried to take the lands many times. But always Maleficent protected the borders. On his deathbed, he promised the crown to anyone who would kill my lady."

"He, the thief now a man but still consumed by greed returned to the Moors by the ways she taught him. He brought wine and honeyed words. She trusted him and rejoiced in his company."

He lowers his eyes, knowing the pain she suffered and suffers still. "As she slept, drugged out of her wits, he cut off her wings with an iron blade. Now he is king and she..." he shakes his head."

He shudders at the idea of the iron knife, "Maeve's tits, that's not right. He sounds almost as bad as our former queen."

The memory of the iron dungeon where Toby was held is there sometimes in his dreams and she barely survived it.

"She was cruel?" He asks softly. "Did she hurt you?"
