Daily Entertainment

Our dear Emcee ([personal profile] i_am_your_host ) would like to know:

What shows, movies, books, or comics have you picked up, or at least had a look at out of curiosity, as a direct result of your pups' Milliways interactions?
katyafeline: (Tiger - yes hello?)

[personal profile] katyafeline 2014-12-11 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ashes to Ashes / Life on Mars - After all, who can resist the Manc Lion?

The Dark is Rising - and yep, the threads weren't any darker than the source canon whut.

Stephen King's Gunslinger series (though I can't seem to finish the last book, wtf King the story within a story within a story with in a oh dear lord no more stories can we move forward somewhere here?)

and of course, most recently: Cabaret

Yay :)

The Night Watch movies and Foyle's War have been in my Netflix queue forever! I just have no time for all the stuff I want to watch.
katyafeline: (Dark - so yeah about that)

[personal profile] katyafeline 2014-12-11 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Amen - I've been meaning to watch Prime Suspect for ages, and... yeeeah. That hasn't happened. I still need to catch up on Jemma's canon first.

(Also omg I somehow ended up watching the 1990's movie version of Annie and... imagining Rooster as a misplaced Emcee makes it even more wrong. Awesomely wrong. :D)

They would've existed at the same time, so swapping places would be definitely be so wrong, hahah. But that "Easy Street" number was easily the best moment in the whole movie, and Alan even seems to throw in a few Emcee moves. So maybe it's not so far off XD

The full movie is on Youtube as well, but here's "Easy Street":

Well, not exactly because of my pup's interactions, but I have been reading my way through the Codex Alera books (Tavi and Kitai's canon) because of bar. I am currently on Princep's Fury.

Oh, I did pick up Slayers because of Amascut's interaction with Zelgadis.

Woo! What did you think of Slayers?

Slayers was fun! Which comes next though? NEXT or TRY?

Well, thanks to Milliways I mainlined Hannibal a while back--that was a weird week!--and recently I did the same with Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes.

One week for both season? I bet that was weird! I-the-mun are very sorry for that; Hannibal in my head does that little 'smug cannibal' headtilt you probably know.-

It might have been more like a couple of weeks but whatever it was, it was many days straight of "how the hell many ~artsy~ serial killers do they even have in this place, jeeeesus" muttered over breakfast and while making dinner.

(breakfast and dinner were not people)

After too much Hannibal, I tend towards nice vegan food; I recently discovered this superb recipe for an South East Asian inspired spinach sauce...

**grins**

So you do know what Hannibal has been talking about to poor bewildered Lesgle!

So, so many. SO MANY. I hadn't even read Good Omens when I first joined Milliways, and I've gone on to read and watch a ton of canons because of this place. Seriously, you should see my bookshelves. I think the first books I jumped to find, besides Good Omens, were the Dark Tower series, Fray, and everything Discworld.

This trend continues today. I'm pretty sure Downton Abbey is all Alex's fault, and I know way more about the TMNT than I ever imagined I would because I watch whatever Bing throws at me!

True Blood. It's great if you fast forward through all the parts that don't have Eric and Pam in it! /bias

Hannibal. Emcee and Lecter have only interacted once, but I've been threadstalking for a while and I'd decided to finally watch it. There are now things in my head that I can never unsee.

Now I plan on binge-watching Vikings, because...vikings. And I really do want to check out Penny Dreadful.

There should be bonus points if the canon you picked up in Milliways inspired you to app a pup!

[personal profile] street_sparrow 2014-12-11 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
If you watch Penny Dreadful, I endorse any potential apping of Brona that might happen.

(Also, yay for watching Vikings although Athelstan's arc will break your heart. Especially S2. All of S2.)

[personal profile] i_am_your_host 2014-12-11 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Bonus bonus points if you are beset with enablers to app a pup from said canon ;D

And I haven't watched anything recently with a truly heartbreaking storyline, so I anticipate the weeping!

Advance warning: some parts are really difficult to watch.

Again, munly apologies for the 'Hannibal' weirdness!

And I really do recommend 'Penny Dreadful'; apart from Dorian being Dorian, it is a rather good series, smoothly delivering on everything that the NBC 'Dracula' completely failed at.-

I'll try and remember all of them.

So many Diana Wynne Jones' books, Old Kingdom series that led to playing Sameth, watching 3:10 to Yuma which led to playing William, Fray, Firefly, Foyle's War, Warehouse 13, Villains by Necessity, Princess Tutu, Teen Wolf, the first Kate Daniel's book, Night Watch-book and movie and those are just the ones off the top of my head.

If I keep thinking I know there will be even more as I've been playing for so long.

Oh man, Dark Tower, Supernatural, the first few Barrayar books, the Fionavar Tapestry, Wheel of Time ... The Abhorsen books are currently sitting in a pile of To Be Read books in my living room, and if I can find a good source for Vikings I may have to add that to my never-ending list of To Be Watched.

Also, indirectly, I ended up listening to Heavy Trash because of Prometheus and this guy here. I said YEAH.

If it will make you watch Vikings, I will buy you the DVDs.

Night Watch, the Abhorsen series, Ashes to Ashes/Life on Mars, Codex Alera, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Hannibal, True Blood, Warehouse 13, Princess Tutu, Percy Jackson, Penny Dreadful, Supernatural, 3:10 to Yuma, and Good Omens I've all at least gotten into even if I haven't completed reading or watching.

I've tried getting into Agents of SHIELD, the Discworld series, Vikings, and Dark Tower and the Wheel of Time, but some of them haven't quite stuck.

....Milliways is the best thing for my fiction reading habits since school, y'all. @_@

A few things I got into via crackchat rather than interactions (Smallville almost being one of them). Don't remember the list, though.

I think the biggest ones I can think of are Vikings, Les Mis, and the Heath Ledger Casanova. Those weren't exactly because of 'oh hey let me watch the things my character's friends are from!' so much as 'I'm gonna go stay with my friend who plays friends of my character oh hey I guess I'm watching all their canons now man that was fun.'

I do own copies of Fallout that I would not have without Bar, despite my love of gaming. I just haven't gotten to them yet. I will, I promise!

I'm glad it was fun! The Heath Ledger Casanova really is unexpectedly good.
