I have mostly been listening to Pandora stations heavily slanted towards TV/movie/video game trailer music and production music, so most of what I've been hearing lately is either epic or overwrought, fair warning. That being said, here's Black Widow by Matias Puumala:
Oh! And I almost forgot, I've had some luck with rather nice video game soundtracks.
My copy of Civilization: Beyond Earth was... well, the game's not great, let's put it like that, but the soundtrack is pretty spectacular, and most of the copies I know of were sold with the soundtrack available for free as MP3s. Antichamber's soundtrack is nearly all ambient and very relaxing. And Monument Valley's soundtrack is similarly mostly ambient and also quite nice.
Newer songs I've come across: AWOLNATION's Kill You Heroes (which is currently sitting on an Ahsoka Tano playlist for the line "Never let your fear decide your fate"). I think the same band's Burn It Down will end up on my Asajj Ventress playlist. Neon Jungle's Trouble is a pretty good theme for Selina Kyle.
Paramore's Last Hope is also on my Ahsoka playlist, as the last song.
Fever Ray's If I Had A Heart currently closes my Asajj playlist.
I'm still in love with Fall Out Boy's Centuries, which makes me think of Tybalt.
Well, new music? I don't have any working radios which is how I usually have been introduced to new music, and I keep listening to the same ~10 pandora stations on shuffle, so, uhh
I can't get enough of this guy right now. He's called Hozier, he's Irish, and his album's become the soundtrack to a huge fanfic I started a couple of months ago. Just gorgeous.
YESSSSS. Dude, get his album, you won't regret it. Also then, I expect you will love this one of his if you haven't heard it. \o/
And btw, I've had 'Formidable' playing most days since you sent it to me, so thanks for that. I feel like I'm learning French just by how many times I've heard it. :D
Oh man, I never knew he covered that song. Love it, thanks for the link! And ahaha yeah, well, the gospel underlying the folk had me from the first note. I can't get enough of that shit, it kills me.
Oh gad I've made a horrible number of playlists for my characters, one way and another. It probably says awful things about my priorities.
Uh but theme songs! I think Joly gets Cat Scientist's I Saved An Airplane. I mean, the band name alone would put it in contention, but the song's just great.
Been listening to Spottify. Am listening to the American Gothic playlist now, it is good. I also have started listening to the Viking soundtrack, and funny enough I like it.
As for my pups, I have a playlist for Death. I add things that I feel are appropriate. I think you can find it if you look for Death's list.
So I'm currently hooked on Jon Gomm's acoustic cover of Chaka Khan's 'Ain't Nobody', and Rag'N'Bone Man's ft. Stig of the Dump 'Rising Sun', which incidentally has made its way onto Noriko's playlist.
Also with Write, I'm so loving Hozier's 'Take Me To Church'.
Yeah, I just spent the past hour or so looking up pop and rock songs from the '80s for Pam's playlist. I've decided that she was really into chick rockers. I mean, how could she not be?

I can also recommend the piano music of Jennifer Thomas if you're fond of the epic stuff like Two Steps From Hell or Kerry Muzzey.

More later likely as I am home sick.

I suppose I have been rediscovering old music and back catalogues and b-sides. Incubus' The Warmth has been impressing me lately. A while back, Garbage fleshed out a tune they were using as a concert opener and it's awesome for some reason - Time Will Destroy Everything. Other than that, I have been enjoying Melissa Auf der Maur, some Tinariwen, Adebisi Shank, Karnivool, Birds of Tokyo, and Poe's (Anne Danielewsky) collaboration with Rhys Fulber while she was in contract hell, which produced Center of the Sun, Make a Wish, Endless Dream, Extraordinary Way, and One Word.

You might dig Kadebostany's cover of Beyonce's 'Crazy in Love', too. It's gotten me to love that song much more.

Wingy just introduced me to 'Take Me To Church' because it reminded her of Pearse last night, and I'm hooked!

Bahorel gets the Veronicas cover of We're Not Gonna Take It, because he does, that's why.
