Daily Entertainment: Guess Who's Back (Back Again)
Goooooood morning, Milliways!
Don and I are once again co-piloting the DEs, and to kick off my return, I've got something for y'all inspired by The Last of Us. It goes a little something like this:
Does your pup have a sidekick? If they do, how did their relationship come to be? If they don't, who would they pick (from Bar or their canon) to be their sidekick?

Mako's sidekick is his brother Bolin. Or - Mako is Bolin's sidekick, depending on who starts stuff and where. (Ask Bolin how they got Pabu.)
Connor doesn't have a sidekick. The closest to come to sidekick status is his friend Kanen'tó:kon, who doesn't follow Connor once he leaves the valley. He does, depending on the player's inclinations, have a team of underlings to send off to do various missions, such as "cross the Delaware with Washington to assassinate this Templar Hessian" or "go down to the Carolinas to assist Francis Marion". If he had to pick, he'd go with X-23, because blades. Assassin stuff. Yes.

Shephard doesn't have a sidekick either, although if he ever gets anyone in the nascent Corps trained up as a proper spotter that may theoretically change a bit. The money's on Jan ten Boom for that; the big guy showed up at Resistance HQ during the Combine war with an offer of intel on Combine railroad routes and wound up throwing in with Shephard as an attempt to get out of a very bad bet.
Ellen and Fawkes traveled together for a while with Fawkes in the companion role. That's probably as close as it gets. Fawkes is currently traveling with Voodoo, and I don't see him acquiring a sidekick of his own. Ellen has Dogmeat, who she views as an inconveniently inarticulate person more than anything else really, and she also has her husband Jerald, who may count as sidekick material given that while he can fight he's more of a support person than anything in the combat orders.
Santo doesn't have a sidekick but he fights with Blue Demon on his side pretty often. He'd be okay with Blue Demon counting as a sidekick, except that Blue Demon has a career of his own and would get cranky about it.
Edward Kenway has a ship's quartermaster, Adewale, who's a pretty good friend and close companion of his until he canonically screws things up. That probably counts.
Stacker Pentecost had a Drift companion, not a sidekick. Her name was Tamsin Sevier. She was an RAF pilot; she fought the Trespasser alongside his sister, and unlike Luna, Tamsin came out of the encounter alive. She and Stacker both signed up for Ranger roles and wound up in Coyote Tango together until she passed out during the Onibaba battle and had to be retired for medical reasons; she eventually died of Jaeger-induced cancer. There will not be another Tamsin.
And Wee Mad Arthur's idea of sidekicks involves putting one of his feet into the kidney of someone standing to his left.
ETA: Not sure how I forgot to include him, but Varric is the sidekick. You get a better shot at spreading the great stories about the hero that way.

If Andrew has a sidekick it's Jonathan, but it would probably be more accurate to say that they're both sidekicks to ... basically whoever they've chosen to follow at any given time.
Cavilo has occasionally had temporary sidekicks. Some of them might even still be alive somewhere.
Nepeta's lusus might have counted as her sidekick in the past. These days she hasn't really got one. That could change!
Edgar is Curtis's sidekick for life.

Cosette doesn't have a sidekick, but if you explained the concept to her, she'd be like, YES MY HUSBAND MARIUS IS TOTALLY MY SIDEKICK :D
Thor, uh, might have said Loki at some points in younger days, which is part of the problems between them, although Thor would've been at least half-joking. Nowadays he would definitely not say that. The Warriors Three might count.
Kazul does not, unless her princess Cimorene (who's technically the protagonist) counts. I don't think either of them would say she did, unless an annoying prince was calling Kazul Cimorene's sidekick, in which case Cimorene might pull an "Actually she's my dragon and I'm her princess -- well, Chief Cook and Librarian -- so if anyone's a sidekick it's me, you know" thing to shut them up. Anyway, Cimorene is off being Queen of the Enchanted Forest these days.
River would like you to know that she has Simon. :D This is River being a brat, and not actually true. (Possibly, River has Galadan as a sidekick, under the right circumstances, but she wouldn't call it that.)
Trowa doesn't really, but his sister Cathy might count, I guess. He's probably say he's her sidekick instead, as a deadpan joke.

If she needed to pick one for some reason -- I don't think she would? Anyone she might is old enough to just be a working partner, and anyone young enough is too young to be engaging in shenanigans on her watch. She'd back up any of the tiny Robins if they asked, though. So there's that.
Raven has no sidekicks, but he does have cousins. So many cousins. So loud. So chattering, so useless until they are not.
Nynaeve has Lan. Warders are kind of like sidekicks. Sometimes I think they see themselves as that way, too. The Aes Sedai is the boss, and they are backup. Or something.
Michael and Lucifer are co-sidekicks forever.
Ysalwen has Liranan. Her other companions never counted as sidekicks, and Zevran still definitely doesn't. Partners for life, yo. If she had to pick a Milliways sidekick, she might choose Chuck. The man needs to get out more, and also his face if she took him into one of the undead swamps would be pretty priceless. Um. Also telling him he's Liranan's sidekick would . . . probably not upset him much, comparatively.
Wonder Woman sort of has Wonder Girl, but sort of not, because usually they do their own things. I don't think she really wants a sidekick, either, and would not go out of her way to choose one ever.
Galadan is Mary Lennox's sidekick. And River's. Shut up. I guess he was sort of Rakoth Maugrim's, too, loath as he is to ever really admit that.
Dean Winchester has Sam, and Sam has Dean. And I guess they've had a rotating cast of sidekick types for awhile, but they usually die. Like several Robins! Er. It sort of makes sense since Dean is Batman.

Cyborg probably thinks of Beast Boy as a sidekick from time to time. But that isn't really fair to BB.
For a very brief time, Charlie treated Renee like a sidekick. Thankfully, that didn't last. It's really hard to imagine him ever having a junior partner.
Not that I play Gibbs that often now, but he WAS the sidekick to Jack. Probably still will be in the next film, heaven help him.
Can't really conceive of Swamp Thing or Knox having sidekicks. Veggie Boy? Cub Reporter Lad?

Quinlan at one point, might have had Khaleen as a sidekick but that quickly changed. He also married her.
Izana is the sidekick, sort of. They're more the awkward love interest. I don't know that they know enough people to pick a sidekick and would likely misunderstand the whole thing, thinking it was picking a companion rather than the superhero thing.
Ethan, I would argue, is Vanessa's sidekick; even if he is one of the protagonists.
Luidaeg doesn't do sidekicks and wouldn't pick one. Sorry.
QuentinSam, arguably, is Steve's newest sidekick but their dynamic doesn't really fit to the comic book tradition.
Selina doesn't do sidekicks. She'd likely pick Bruce if she had to. Or would be Jay's sidekick, in bar.
Hank might be considered to be Charles' sidekick if you look at canon that way, but I don't think Charles would allow that dynamic.
Rollo, in season 03 I would say the berserker who gets hit with an arrow during the siege of Paris. Now I feel like I need to find his name and figure out when to bring him into Rollo's narrative.

I think I need to make a post in viking_ways to see if folks mind bringing him in early as an NPC. Of course, Rollo isn't raiding yet so there is time.

Bossuet will tell you that he and Joly take turns being the sidekick, eyebrow-waggle eyebrow-waggle. If you ask him what he means, it turns out the answer is "what's a sidekick?"
Gredya is now, post-canon, the head of her little pack.
Djehuty, like, has associated divinities. It's not really a sidekick thing, but it would be kind of awesome if he went riding around on a superhero motorcycle with the Feather of Ma'at in the sidecar.

Joly, if he knew what the term meant, would have to concede that he often strongly suspects he is a sidekick, but then he does have cats.

Cloud is Raph's Sidekick, since...he went and got married and some crap. It used to be Mike.
Mike has Stampy as a sidekick.
Momo is Aang's.
And...depending on when we're pulling Bumi from, it's either Bum Jr, or General Iroh. (LOVE YOU IROH!)

Leela is no one's sidekick, much less the Doctor's.
Garyn has no interest in having a sidekick. (Besides, Morrowind is strictly a solo game).
Cassie would consider Jacqui to be more of a friend and partner than a sidekick. She does outrank her, though.
Sheogorath has Haskill. Loyal, long-suffering Haskill. Gotta love that guy.

Voodoo.
Bruce.

Jean Prouvaire thinks everyone is the hero of their own story. In his story, however, Bahorel is...not so much the sidekick as the seasoned mentor to the young dreamer hero.

Fairy Fixit doesn't have sidekicks, she has coworker-buddies. She would be looking for an apprentice, but the world is ending in various ways and she is distracted with dealing (or not dealing) with it.
Evil Chicken might have a sidekick if Char lets me handwave Vyvyan-Chicken as joining Evil Chicken's glorious revolution (maybe?)

Dixie: Used to think Pete filled that role. Nowadays she kind of IS the sidekick.
Juliet: Lassie, though they're truly partners.
Pinkie Pie: Perhaps one of the Cutie Mark Crusaders or the Pie kids; otherwise she's too busy being a solo joy spreader
Eponine: Gav.
