DE: You can always find home
It's Friday! Is everyone ready for new character weekend? Anyone need help with preparing new apps?
As to today's topic, I realized, yesterday I think it was, that the Fantastic Four will always be a home to me. In other words, they are a default canon for me. What are some of your default canons?
And yes, it is still so weird to not see any solicits for a Fantastic Four title for either the current summer crossover or the All-New Marvel.

Star Trek and Star Wars don't lag far behind. Very different canons, but both make me happy.
And I agree totally about the FF. The way Marvel is treating what is a flagship title is absurd.

ETA: Also, I swear there are X-Men titles post-Secret Wars, though I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Oh, and i just remembered Ben is at least shown joining the Guardians of the Galaxy.

DCU invarious forms comes in a pretty close second; Smallville ranks high within this but is not exclusive.
Tales of Symphonia actually also is this for me, even if I don't play from it anymore. Couple others ranking below that, but those are probably the first big three.

Also Dragonlance, weirdly enough. I remember way more about that canon than I should, since I have not really read it in forever. But man, close to my heart.
Dragon Age stuff, all of it, no matter what the medium.
The Batman, Wonder Woman, and Justice League parts of DC pre-Nu52. Esp between 1987 and 2005-ish. That's the DC stuff I grew up with.
Wheel of Time, seriously, because this is another one I grew up with. Aaaaaaah.

Although it sucks that so much of DC's current offering sucks.
And it also sucks that... well, you know.

I do look forward to the inevitable mess when he comes back and the rest of the Batfamily finds out he's alive. (I'm also glad for once that 52!Tim is a different character because it would destroy preboot!Tim lbh. HE CAN'T TAKE LOSING ANYONE ELSE)

1. that.

I still think he shouldn't have dropped the whole "hey Tim there's a nice therapist in Metropolis you could talk to" thing just because Bruce turned out to be alive though I get why he wouldn't want to risk pushing it when their relationship was already kinda rocky. still. so many red flags.

Dragonriders of Pern. Such a sucker for these books, though I pretty much stopped after Dolphins of Pern.
Star Wars. The original trilogy stands the strongest for me. The prequels work so much better with having seen the Clone Wars TV show and Star Wars Rebels is just awesome. Didn't read much of the EU but I have enjoyed the Old Republic novels I've read.
Godzilla.
Robotech.

If you haven't read "The Masterharper of Pern" I would highly suggest it as it covers the decade before the last fall and Jaxom's childhood, as well as Robinton's life of course.

I love lush, rich worldbuilding. I love cultures that challenge our own preconceived notions. I love expansive vistas and tech that's both old and new. I love interesting stuff, it's that simple.

Though as I write this I realize that Agatha Christie and Nero Wolfe fit as well, default canon is an interesting idea. For me there are so many books I reread or series I watch that its hard to pick just one or two but the ones listed are huge. Some others that come to mind are Star Trek, Diana Wynne Jones' books and Into the Woods.

Also tangentially related, but I'm reading some more of Tim's older stuff in prep for 13-year-old Tim's arrival and it's like every time I do there's something new and awful to learn about his parents.
like Bruce asked Tim if he'd talked to his parents about why he was hanging out with Bruce Wayne and Tim was like "Actually, I don't know where they are now. They haven't called in a while. It's no big deal. They're so busy, I guess they forget*."
*all of this is actual dialogue
NO BIG DEAL THEY DO THIS ALL THE TIME APPARENTLY

The Dragonriders of Pern series is another, as mentioned above, although I RP'd for *years* in settings where females could Impress blues (not common, but not too unusual) and browns (uncommon, but not at all unheard of), so that informs my view of the canon now. Heck, I have a journal tag referencing this!
Band of Brothers is a third; that whole mindset comes back to me in seconds, seriously.
