Anyone feel like a little action?

Has your axe/sword/claws/crossbow/melee weapon of choice been getting rusty? Do you feel old age creeping into your joints? Do you feel like a bit of adventure might shake off the dust? Well, read farther! (Spoilers for Season 02 of Vikings behind the cut.)

Ragnar and all the able bodied men are away in England having a grand old time, leaving Rollo, old men and boys, and the women of the village to keep things going and safe. So happy and tranquil, eh?

Unfortunately, Rollo's bad life choices are about to come-a-knocking in the form of one Jarl Borg who didn't take too kindly to either Ragnar reneging on his promise to take Borg (and his men) raiding with him, nor Rollo smashing his nose in when Borg tried to, again, poison Rollo against his brother.

Jarl Borg is soon to arrive with all those men and ships Ragnar promised would go raiding West and instead raid Kattegut. Left with only a few old men, Rollo has no way of fighting them off. The old men prove true and distract Borg's men long enough that Rollo is able to escape with Siggy and Ragnar's family.

What does all this mean to Milliways? Well, Rollo is an ambitious and crafty fellow and with Milliways as a resource, hopes he can repel the invaders. Due to canon, this cannot happen, but with the aid of Milliways folks, more families can escape the raid.

What I have in mind is Rollo coming in, bloody and manly, drafting a few able bodied folks and them helping families escape to the mountains and foothills of the area. I am thinking this will work best as either teams or individuals who scatter and reassemble later for Rollo to open a door back to Milliways at the farm he hides Ragnar's family at.

Due to canon, modern weapons are out, and due to the canon narrative, gods as well (sorry Thor). Which likely cuts out those with a lot of personal power (i.e. super heroes), unless being out numbered would reduce their chance of repelling the raid.

I don't know much beyond that but would love to hear ideas.

So, anyone interested?


I am thinking of starting this within the next day or so, with a targeted wrap to be the end of next week.

If a curved sword and an Osage orange longbow wouldn't be a problem, it would not be the first time Shephard had gone to another world while restricted to the use of comparatively primitive weapons. He'll just... keep that glove of his on to hide the arm.

I'd offer Edward Kenway as an alternative but Edward's the kind to ask for payment for things like this.

Either would be great! I don't have a schedule in mind yet, but it should start soon.

Rollo, being a viking, will offer future payment if that helps with Edward? He would offer present payment but his funds are rather null since he betrayed his people last season. ; p

Alas, I'm away for the next four days, so i'll have to pass. But, you know, Rollo, Tess speaks French. That might come in handy later?

It could! In fact I am very much looking forward to him trying to speak Medieval French in bar with Tess and the mes amis (hoping my French is right).

Ahh I'm away til the weekend, but obvs Hotspur would be all over this if it's still going on by the weekend. Then again, he and Rollo didn't get off to the best start...

And we could always have Hotspur's band start on the weekend. I'm imagining this as a few teams, so he could easily be off on his own until you are available.

Will would be interested in this and can bring sword and longbow though probably stick to sword as the longbow might be too English a weapon.

If you need more, I can also offer Sameth and Quentin but I prefer only tossing one in as its simpler. All three can use a sword, Quentin's illusions might be helpful for hiding families and Sameth with the Charter might be too powerful.

Simpler is much better for me as well. I will take the Englishmen! And I'm fine with the long bow if Will feels better with it.

He can do both, its more a matter of the kind of fighting. For up close, he'll stick with a sword and if they're holding off then that would make more sense. In terms of writing combat, I find it simpler to have only one weapon to deal with and Will will get a kick out of fighting with vikings.

I think Sonya should be in this by default. She can use a spear as well as knives for fighting-baring that she's very good at improvising, and thanks to Ahtlestan she can speak a fair amount of Norse.

Awesome and she is definitely welcome! And speaking Norse is a good point. I will have to have Rollo teach those coming along "come" and something like "Rollo's friend".

Ahaha, Feuilly would be so earnest about volunteering. Rescuing civilians! Buuuut the part where he only has a practice sword...which he's only been training with for a couple of weeks...kind of probably rules him out. No matter how much he'd protest that he's already dead and can't get deader!

Well, Feuilly can always find out what happens when his "body" gets killed in another world. ;p
