What fanfiction about your character or canon do you recommend? What do you want to see portrayed in fic?

You ever read something so fun, so dead on for your pup, you instantly absorb it as head canon? Yeah.

Dejah Thoris Rulz by fresne on AO3, PG rating. It's a strange mix up of the book canon and the movie canon, wherein things go sideways and Dejah Thoris does science. The kind of science where published papers get you kidnapped by space pirates. It's a quick read at ~8300 words.

There is only one decent piece of fic I've been able to find with Voodoo in a starring role, and it's an AO3 crossover with NCIS. The plot escapes me at the moment. I guess it'd be okay if NCIS is your thing, but it didn't stick with me. What little is left of the Medal of Honor fandom isn't the fic-writing kind. My ideal fic would be a kind of antithesis to the writing seen in Call of Duty and other Modern Military Shooters - i.e., less focus on the tools of the trade and the missions, more focus on the people doing the work. If it could move beyond the one-dimensional sycophantic FUCK YEAH WAR attitude canon has, that'd be good too.

I realize that's quite vague, but hey, it's what I can come up with off the top of my head.

I've never read any fic with Maverick in it. I've been told something like 80% of it is slash. I'd believe it. I can't think of a wishlist for this one - dogfights are hard to put into fic, and everything else about canon is...kinda boring. -now that I'm searching on AO3, however, I have to admit I'd kind of dig a crossover with Supernatural. It doesn't have to be serious.

Reading fic with Connor in it is...a risky proposition. I'm not saying everyone should drop hundreds of dollars on encyclopedias or anything, but you can tell who has done their research and who hasn't. There's also a substantial part of the fandom that romantically ships him with his dad. Homey don't play that.

When you factor in that Ezio is a whole lot more popular with fans, I don't have high hopes for there being a whole lot of good fic - but I'd like to see what Connor did after canon. There's a lot of opportunities for stories there.

There is exactly one fic of B.J Blazkowicz on AO3. Well, if you can call it that. He occupies one chapter of a 36-chapter self-insert smut-drabble fic.

I know, different strokes for different folks, and there's not many gaps in canon for fic to fill in, but - seriously, you can't build a kickass fic out of a game built around shooting Nazis? That plays like it came out of Quentin Tarentino's brain?

Come on, guys.

I guess Archer has some pretty neat stuff on AO3, but I don't have time to read it just now. There are some pretty good script fics on Reddit if you take the time to look. The stuff I have on my wishlist would take all day to write out.

Mako - well, there's the shipfics, obviously. Back when the show first premiered I was all over them, but that Book 1 love triangle - and the Book 2 faux-resurgence - has left a sour taste in my mouth when it comes to LoK ships.

I can't think of anything I'd recommend off the top of my head, but I want to see fic of him as a cop. Think stuff like Adam 12. (Southland is still my favorite cop show, but its tone can't mesh well with LoK's setting.)

Ellie - there are shipfics, of course. Some with Riley, but some people just can't pass up the chance to get their hebephile on and romantically pair her with Joel.

(Context, for those unfamiliar with canon - Ellie is 14 and Joel is the late 40s-early 50s Adopted Father Figure tasked with schlepping her across the post-apocalyptic States.)

Again, can't think of anything I'd recommend, but I'd like there to be fic filling in the gap between the Pittsburgh suburbs and Jackson, Wyoming. That's a whole lot of ground to cover, with plenty of potential for interesting stories.

Can't think of anything for Kuvira.

Snowpiercer fic is a bit thin on the ground (especially fic that isn't Curtis/Edgar, which is...not my jam, or crossovers, which are my jam but not always what I'm looking for). That said: Move Forward has informed a lot of my headcanon about Curtis, the train, and the early days. The bit that explains why Grey is mute stuck with me for weeks.

I'm another for not really reading fanfic. I've a lot of folks I follow or bookmark on AO3 but I never seem to actually read their stuff. I probably should, given how Tumblr has turned into channel surfing for me.

That said, there is this great fic for Asajj that inspired me to give her a pet in Millicanon. Asajj is kind of tricky for me as my head canon reads her as being aromantic and asexual, yet every fan thing I see seems to put her in romances.

I don't really read any - and yes,there is still Smallville fanfic being written. Very few people write Tess as a major character and those who do ship her with all the wrong (read: not my OTP) people.

Back in the day I wished there was more/better Tess fanfic but now I don't really care, so I have no preferences for one.

I will never not recommend Toil Until the Old Colours Fade for anyone who likes Les Mis. It's glorious, it's a fandom classic (at least on the JVJ side), and one of only two fics I've had to put on my Kindle so I can read it whenever I want.

There's a bunch more excellent ones for Les Mis too, and I might put a short list together later if I have time. I don't really read any for any other fandom at the moment - I've touched on some MCU stuff in the past but can't think of anything off the top of my head, and a brief foray into the Master and Commander lists on A03 haven't produced anything stunning so far.

...and I've just remembered that there are some great Life on Mars/Ashes ones out there, and I've heard great things about some in Sherlock fandom too. I can't speak for the latter, but I'll find some links to fab Gene ones, again, if I have time.

There's an amazing Yuletide Master and Commander one where Stephen turns into a penguin, I highly recommend it. Its cracky and yet completely works with the canon. Here it is.

Literally the only reason I go on FB anymore is because my coursemates and I have a private group there, where we arrange all the parties we need to drown our sorrows with when we're in Oxford. Also so we can have collective panic attacks/meltdowns at every deadline, which is currently happening every day. It's enormous fun. :D

Tumblr, I have not touched in weeks. Nuh uh. Not going near it until next Friday. Talking Valvert is the ultimate time suck.

I've read some Marvel fics in which Carol appears, but generally I've been so pleased with Kelly Sue's writing on the Captain Marvel book that I haven't really sought out fic. I do know about half of the Carol-centric fic is Carol/Jess. I have read some good Civil War/Secret Invasion era Steve/Tony fics that do feature Carol. Does that count?

Downton Abbey is another one where the canon hasn't really left me clamoring for fic. I think I maybe read one, once upon a time?

As for Teen Wolf how long have you got? I've been reading TW fic for several years, mostly of the Derek/Stiles variety, and I have opinions and a very long list of Ao3 bookmarks. I've written a few as well, both shippy and gen. The most important thing to me, whether I'm reading AUs or canon-based fic, is good characterization, which for both Stiles and Derek means a combination of sarcasm, sharp edges, and squishy emotional centers. Here is an excellent example, Crash Landers by gyzym, in which Stiles starts leaving parking ticket notes on Derek's car.

But seriously, if you're interested, I have so many recs.

There is not much Jonathan Strange fic, and not much I've found that I've really liked. I've never looked much for Twelfth Night fic.

Boy From Babel is, hands down, my
favorite Avatar Fan Fic written. It's short, sweet, and completely safe for work.

I have favorite other stories which are a bit more on the porny side of things, but that one right there is hands down just the best one. Seriously, go read it. I'll wait.
