DE: Fic Friday

Inspired by the book I just started reading (Anna Dressed In Blood), what are some of the ghost stories or urban legends from your pup's canon? Feel free to write it out as fic or outline the myth, as inspiration strikes.

Oooh, Ahsoka's ghost story is making me ponder Ibani as a ghost choosing the Jedi temple as one of her places to hang out in the far future.

Interesting idea! I figure before a Sith returned, seemingly from nowhere, to kill Qui-gon, the padawans likely talked about a monster or some such. Makes sense that Sith would become the boogyman again for the younglings.

It would make sense, considering their history! The more remote the history is, the easier it is for history and memories to skew and make a bunch that were already pretty monstrous actual monsters and boogeymen.

Legend has it if you look in the mirror and call your girlfriend a bitch three times a tall blonde in a flight suit will fly into your house and punch you in the face.

The green rocks in Smallville came from meteors and will make you crazy if you touch one. Legend and also the truth, although it takes a large amount of exposure to make you go crazy. You might also get superpowers.

Ibani: Ghost Story/Urban Legend

Speaking of the Sith becoming bogeymen....

Some things remain, even after many thousands of years. The Sith were people, once, now they are the monsters in tales younglings tell one another in the dark. Bogeymen are useful for keeping youngsters in line, a warning of the perils of the Dark side, so the Masters don't bother to quash the tales.

Talavi is seeking one such tale now, in the deep hours of the night, her hands shake as the knife slips and draws a deeper gash on her forearm than she'd meant to. The blood drips on the strange stone in a nearly forgotten portion of the temple grounds, her heartbeat thudding her ears.

For a long minute nothing happens, and she curses her foolishness in believing the stories, curses her weakness and her fear that drove her to seek help here of all places.

"There is power in blood, youngling, tis not wise to spill your own unless you are certain of your ends." It is a woman's voice, but it comes from the walls, the ground, the sky...

Talavi feels a change in the Force, like a popping in your ears to equalize the pressure. She twists her head back and forth, searching, until she sees a figure that's not truly solid, tinged with bluish light. A force ghost. "You're real," she breathes in surprised disbelief.

"If you didn't believe I was real, why did you do all of this, hm?" the ghost asks, bemused. "You ought to tie something around that, dear. I hope they're still teaching you lot first aid these days, my ability to provide medical care is rather limited."

"I, yes," Talavi replies, flushing with embarrassment as she wraps a piece of cloth around her forearm. "I, I came to bargain," she replies, the speech she had prepared for dealing with the Sith slipping her mind entirely.

"Bargaining with a Sith is a dangerous business, especially dead Sith," the ghost replies, her gaze intent on Tilavi. "Why bargain with a monster?"

Tilavi's voice cracks. "I, I'm afraid I'm going to fail. That I'm not good enough to, to be a Jedi."

The ghost sighs and moves toward Tilavi. "I think we need to have a long talk, find a comfortable looking rock."

Thank you! She probably has Tilavi talk about what all is worrying her and reassures her. Maybe gives her a few tips. I hadn't decided what, precisely, Tilavi was worried about.

I am pondering whether one Mace Windu ever talked to ghost!Ibani. :-D His sword style seems rather Sithy, what with the whole using the will to win to power yourself.

He knew why everyone feared her, she saw right through you and wasn't afraid to say the truth. She had to but there are ways of being honest like when she told him about Katie, "Even if you get her back, you'll probably lose her."

And he knew she was trying to protect him even though she had no reason to, so he remembered and he let Katie go and be safe without him. But she likes donuts and Diet Coke and taught him how to care for hippocampi. The Sea Witch doesn't grant wishes but she listens, she tells the truth and helps you find what you need inside of what you want.

Sherwood

(I don't have the right icon.)

Sherwood is alive and she cares for those she knows. The Lord and Lady of the forest, the Green Man, she has many names for her protectors and those who understand.

To grow up near her green is to know life and death and know if you ask and honor, you shall know safety. The Men of Sherwood are hers which is why the Sheriff never truly caught them, only grasping at shadows as they didn't know Sherwood.
