Thursday DE
I was going to ask if people had exciting Halloween plans for their characters--but then I realized that y'all might want to surprise everyone with your spooky and/or hilarious costumes. So share if you want to, or kick ideas around, but if that's not your cup of tea--
Dead people are Halloweeny, right? So does your character have a particular favorite historical figure? Presumably from their universe, but hey, it's Milliways, no need to be provincial.

Sounds good!

I know I'm planning to play around with that and with costumes, both, with the usual caveats about seeing what I have time for.

As to historical figures, Sam wishes he were as awesome as Harriet Tubman. Can't think of any others.

There's a national holiday each year in her honor.

Cosette... oh geez. Huh. She probably has a favorite saint or three. I'll say Saint Francis of Assisi is one she'd like a lot, although she isn't in any rush to pattern her life after his or anything.
Thor complicates this question by being hundreds of years old and with Asgardian history very vague (especially in movieverse.) Well, there are a bunch of epic warrior types he'd get along with! Gilgamesh and Rostam are both solidly before his time, so I'll toss a coin and pick them, but I wouldn't say they're his favorites or anything.
Kazul is also from a world without much canonical history, but I'm sure she has a few favorite scholars... aaaand a favorite historical figure who ended a long war by marching up to the main leaders and banging their heads together until everybody agreed to shape up and negotiate, or something.

Viola is definitely somehow going to end up in a dress for Halloween. And seems like she'd be a Joan of Arc fan.

Evelyn: Historical figure within her livftime, but she is trying not to let on that it is kind of secretly Ysalwen, because stopped the Fifth Blight and also a mage which is pretty cool considering how the world can be about them. She is having trouble not going all tongue-tied around Ysalwen and trying to hide it.
Tavi: Oooof. Hard! Especially since we have so little history and somehow the first Gaius Primus just isn't, despite his accomplishments. He isn't actually a huge fan of the Roman ones he's learned about in-Bar; he's fascinated and excited, but they're often terrible people. Of Alerans, I think the most recent Gaius Primus was after book one through start of book four, because that's my headcanon's Emperor Claudius analogue (except with a better ending) and Tavi is a fan of First Lords who are historians. Probably still is, but it's more awkward now with the descendant bit.
If Magnus weren't a personal friend, teacher, semi-spymaster, and during Tavi's lifetime, he probably would have been for the research-into-Romans thing.
If Tavi'd learned about Septimus sooner (the murder, political opinions, all of it), I expect he would have ranked and come closer to being a hero to Tavi than anyone else. By the time he does, Tavi's outgrown the latter and will do more than the former himself (which Septimus never got around to anyway).
