Thursday DE
This one came up in a DE a while ago, in a conversation bouncing around with
ceitfianna and
genarti, I think? Why were we talking about disastrous character dates? Well, WHY AREN'T WE ALWAYS?
So: Tell us how a date with your character goes terribly wrong. Are they wanted by half the bounty hunters in the galaxy, or do they just spend the whole time giving Star Wars spoilers? (...is that why they're wanted by bounty hunters? it is, isn't it.)
Bonus fic option: write about Five Times A Date With [Your Pup] Went Horribly (And One Time It Almost Kind Of Went Okay But Not Really)

Also, the only time someone tries to make even remotely romantic overtures to him in canon, a dinosaur monster attacks. That - that is also a risk.

Brienne: again, an easy one. There was that time at Highgarden when a bunch of knights started courting her, and Brienne was perplexed until she was told it was all part of a bet over who would get her virginity, and when she proved a hard nut to crack, one or two of the knights began contemplating rape. What's more, Brienne was told about this by a cruel ultra-misogynist who blamed her for it. So any dates with those knights would qualify, but the worst was probably her interactions with one Ser Hyle, who seemed to (and I suspect, did) like her and who actually trained at fighting with her. Except he was part of the bet. Not the rape plot, but the bet.
Combeferre has no such awful tale. Once or twice at a dance he's found himself stuck with a girl who had no interest in moths, philosophy, science, or politics, & he was unable to gracefully extricate himself, & he got really bored.
Jehan Prouvaire has had at least three dates where he was too awkward and shy and tongue-tied to say anything at all. On one of those occasions, the woman was unkind, and said mean things to him. That was probably the worst.

That'd ruin basically any date.
Melinda: Have you met Melinda? She doesn't go on dates. But when she does (spoilers for later seasons), what generally ruins it is Conflicts From Our Past That She Can't Help Remembering And Being Influence By.
Quatre: Quatre apologetically reschedules your date to next week Saturday, from 12:45pm-1:35pm, it's the only time he can make work. The actual 50 minutes he's around he's solely focused on said date, but you might get the feeling it's because He Booked A Date The Date Is His Job For These 50 Minutes.
(Unless you're Trowa, or to a lesser extent any of his previous longterm relationships after 2-3 months of being in them -- then he just sparkles at you at every turn though often in an undercaffienated and still-reading-industry-news-bulletins way).
Darcy: For an OFFICIAL DATE? Darcy is super awkward, and babbles, and decides partway through this date would be better with just her and her mocha hiding somewhere. She ends up doing so while you're in the restroom. She maybe leaves a note?
If you never manage to spring on her that it's a date, she'll end up in a longterm relationship without ever really thinking about it but being fully committed to said It's Complicated.
John Connor: Terminators. They ruin a good 70% of his dates, canonically.
Chuck: .... wait, who would date Chuck?

But yeah, Hal is KIND OF A SCOUNDREL and apparently hanging out with his sister??? (But as long as Sebastian doesn't know that he's just like "gosh this man is very friendly")

Pfft, I don't even know how Sebastian is going to handle interacting with anyone. Life is a dream! A very fuzzy dream, and in this location full of alcohol. A+ dream, dream.

But--right, there was this one time he was out with his lover and she was looking great in her low-cut dress and it was shaping up to be a really exciting party and then the National Guard killed him and all his friends, and it was, you know. Not what a guy hopes for when he's going out. But hey, love and war, whatcha gonna do.

Enjolras: You might think that the answer is "he just wanted to talk about political theory and French history all night," but... like... what are you doing going on a date with Enjolras if you don't want to talk about that? How did you manage to go on a date with Enjolras if you don't want to talk about that? The guy doesn't even date!
So I think the answer here is: Enjolras completely did not realize that the other guy thought it was a date. (Probably guy. Enjolras is very attuned to when a woman thinks it's a date, because he's from 19th century Europe.) The other person eventually started to suspect this, and then had to spend the entire time searching for clues and dropping hints that went entirely missed because Enjolras had no clue there were supposed to be hints to pick up on. Eventually, when Enjolras shook his hand heartily and went on his way, he was pretty sure, but he still had to go and find one of Enjolras's friends to double-check with. The friend in question probably laughed for hours about it.
or uh the other and more fandom-standard answer involves "Two at one shot! I'm with them. Do you permit it?" and twelve bullets but whateverCosette... I'm going to have to think about, since she married her first love at 17 and never really went on a date with anybody else, unless you count a few flirtatious glances at somebody she never spoke to.
Thor: HI JANE FOSTER AND WELCOME TO THIS EPISODE OF HOSTILE ALIENS KEEP CRASHING MY DATE NIGHTS
Kazul, uh, let's just assume wizards were involved somehow. She sneezed fireballs, something got stolen (possibly Kazul and/or her date), somebody got turned into a mouse, it was a huge diplomatic incident and nearly sparked a wizard-dragon war (again). This was frustrating in a date context mostly because it turned out that the other person didn't have any fun with this, and had strong moral objections to dragons eating even really obnoxious people. (That wouldn't necessarily stop Kazul, but it did add an extra layer of frustration or distress for everyone involved.)

..At least if it happens twice.

that whole thing with Zero didn't go great, as a follow-up to a sparkly meet cute
...BUT AFTER THAT EVERYTHING'S BEEN FINE if you're okay with "wait literal years of empathically bonded BFFness for both parties to realize what they're interested in," which they clearly are, so.

Hank's first few skirmished with romance and dates kept getting interrupted by Erik. In the future, I sort of head canon that he and Storm may have a romance (once she's of age (I have no idea what age she'll be in the next movie)) and it will likely still get interrupted by Erik doing his usual dramatic terrorist BS. ; p
I'll have to see if the others are going to let me answer.
Bonus: A new head voice I seem to have picked up gets his dates interrupted by his hetro friend who needs to talk about these feelings and emotions he has and doesn't quite know how to deal with.

Or there's the time Nagate accepted an invitation from Izana and Yuhata (a girl who has a crush on Nagate as well) to do something fun at the same date and time, and they all ended up spending an awkward weekend together. Fun times!

Jonathan did get a single date with Cordelia Chase once that consisted mostly of him fetching and carrying things for her.

Seimei's courtship of Minamoto no Tsuyu, who would become his second wife, coincided with (and was interfered with by) an escalating conflict between himself and rival onmyoji Ashiya Doman. So a couple of Seimei's dates with Tsuyu were rudely interrupted (or missed entirely) by demons that Doman sent after Seimei.
This whole business culminated in Seimei trying to break things off with Tsuyu because he didn't want to put her in harm's way. During this conversation, Ashiya Doman - hopped up on black magic - stormed into the Imperial Palace with the intention of getting rid of Seimei once and for all. Obviously, he did not succeed, but Seimei was mortified to have Tsuyu see him beaten up and with his hair singed due to the ensuing magical battle. Of course, she ended up marrying him after all, so it all worked out in the end.

Elle - Is just... very bad at people being romantic with her and hence very bad at dating. The only time she tried to do it in-Bar she pretty much nope'd out of it right away.
Katara - "Yes Aang I've seen the marble tr- NO AANG DON'T JUMP ON THAT GIANT OCTOPUS MONSTER TO IMPRESS ME."
Will - Well I don't know, did it go wrong at the attempted stabbing or the part where someone tried to cut someone else's skull open >:(

I think the worst part of being out with Charles would be when Erik comes to cause trouble, before that Raven teasing and being a pain. In some ways, in later canon, property destruction is kind of part of how they connect.
Quentin, his high school girlfriend was kidnapped by the Fae bogeyman though not while they were on a date. Bad things happen to people in his canon and I could see dates being interrupted by Toby bleeding somewhere.
Moist, um, someone gets arrested or realizes that he's a liar.
William has never dated in his own time, *pats him*, the one girl he dated in Milliways became a Hunter of Artemis.
Sameth and Kait's first date was incredibly awkward, she showed up naked in the forge and then Teja was there like an awful relative, so much awkward. I miss them. The other places he would have had dates would be at Somersby where he would get nervous and talk sports or mechanics or possibly his sister or Nick Sayre would add to the odd. In Belisaere, his sister would try to set him up with her friends and he would be so awkward and have grease under his fingernails.
Jane is actually a good person to go on a social outing with, she has lots of practice and if she likes you, she'll share her comments on other people. The only issue is she might insult someone just nicely. Becoming Jane is full of Tom and Jane doing the equivalent of dating in their time. A bad date would involve her getting into an argument with someone and sharpening her tongue on them.
Ivan's another one who would be good on a date, he has incredibly good social training but he's also related to a family that stuff happens to. A worst case date would probably involve someone trying to kill him or someone related to him. The book about his also had some great examples of what dating Ivan and his family is like, I recommend it.
Demeter, oh my, I think a worst date with her would have unexpected transformations and angry gods.
Tumnus doesn't really date.

Other notable Smooth Moments In Joly's Dating History include "Let me tell you what I learned about anatomy today", the sequel "No wait I really meant anatomy, like, we had a great corpse and--that's not better", and the all-time repeating hit, "Would you like to come back to my apartment and meet my roommate, he's really great, oh noooo I didn't mean like that, oh god, I'm so sorry (he really is a great guy though PLEASE SHUT ME UP)".
...Joly has often wondered why, with all the amazing ways humans can die right on the spot, none of them ever seem to happen right when a fellow might find it convenient.

Evelyn has something interrupt. Early in life, Templars are nearby and she's shy. Later, Solas pulls something that causes a chain of events that results in her needing to go save the world (see: Trespasser).
Henry is interested in a girl who's being forced to work for the bad guys somehow. (I think that's actually what happened, I'm behind in canon.)
Tavi gets interrupted by work. 'Work' might encompass anything from the end of the world to dumb politics to assassination attempts to an assignment (when he was younger) or anything at all. But that's how all his dates end poorly. Kitai rolls her eyes tolerantly and doubtless eventually gets to establish when interruptions get set on fire and when they don't.
Anakin
is on a date at all therefore it is already a disasteris on a sandy planetis on a date at all therefore it is already a disaster. Generally speaking, a Senate vote interrupts, or droids attack, or he's called to a mission, or they're in front of other people and need to pretend they're not married. ...but realistically, Anakin's on a date, it's terrible.Lois:
1) On a date with a supervillain or corrupt official or businessman or cop or something
2) Turns date into investigation
3) Using date as cover for an investigation
4) (pre-season 9) Clark knows about the date and gives her a hard time/hovers protectively/interrupts
5) Gets attacked during date
6) Date turns into supervillain in the course of the date
7) Date doesn't like monster trucks and doesn't take it gracefully
8) Date disses Whitesnake
9) Sam Lane interrupts
10) Lucy Lane interrupts
11) (season 9 and later) Clark has to leave for The Second Job
12) ... I'm going to stop there before I get really creative.
