Timeline notes for Homestuck characters
Heyo.
So, as of here, we have pulled the trigger on one of the more crazy and controversial events of Homestuck, the great retcon. At a late point in the story, one of the characters actually gains the ability to go back and "edit" the storyline, creating a new timeline that is less intrinsically doomed to failure.
Up to now, all of the Homestuck characters in the bar have stuck to one timeline, more or less. However! As of now, Kanaya will becoming from the new, non-doomed timeline. She has spent the last three years on a meteor hurtling through space as before, but the exact events have unfolded a little differently than she may have mentioned in various threads. Everyone should feel free to be surprised if she contradicts herself, but she is now firmly from the retcon timeline.
Karkat is from the non-retcon timeline, although he became an AU version of himself and never got to the endpoint of it, missing out on a fun lava bath. He is aware that the timeline was fucked with, but he refused to lose the memories associated, as the scene that got interrupted was probably the high point of his character development. There IS a version of Karkat in Kanaya's timeline, but Milliways!Karkat thinks he's a tool. His relationship with Kanaya in the bar is more or less unchanged.
Nepeta and Aradia both died before the point where the story forked and shouldn't be affected, although they are probably aware of it, to varying degrees based on how closely (Aradia) or not at all (Nepeta) they are paying attention to timeline business.
