DE: Suppport your side!
It's the European Football Championship here in, well, Europe, so my question today is related: what big team ball-playing sport is your charrie into (or would be, if their world had them), what team or country would they support, and what is that team's style like. Do go wild and invent, say, the Iron Isles National Rugby Team or the cricket league in the Shire...
Bonus: tag somebody whose canon notionally plays the same sport and ponder how those teams would compete.

I don't have strong opinions about anyone else, except that modern AU Viola would absolutely love smacking the shit out of people playing lacrosse.

i mean i might be watching it too hard to RP properly but yes, yes indeed, gene will have company
(Weirdly, it's easier for me to catch the Euros than the Copa America, what with being home with small kids and going to bed early.)

I think Sam would love Quidditch. Perhaps a little too much. I have no idea if there are American quidditch teams, but he'd support the nearest to him geographically and if there were military teams like there are for American football, he'd be screaming for the Air Force team. In fact, I think they'd be called the Screaming Eagles or maybe Screaming Griffons.
Izana's canon does not show any sports but there are duels between garde pilots and they are very much cheered and betted on. The duels are fought in the garde units and are more like fencing with spears than aerial dogfights.
In the comics, Hank has a history with American football, but I think he'd enjoy football/soccer much more. Or basketball. Baseball hasn't become a thing for the X-men movies yet and it really needs to happen. So many great pages with the team and students playing with powers from the comics.

It is definitely true that troll professional sports are staffed by criminals as a punishment for crimes against the empire.

In Milliways, Hal supports whoever is playing against Harry's team--he initially favored Arsenal and still does, but Chelsea's recent pettiness has charmed him. That said, he will unite with Harry at the drop of a hat to support the national team.
William Douglas comes from a play in which people literally conduct political maneuvers and express their deepest feelings through a football game, so...yeah. Yeah. The Partick Thistle mascot resonates deeply with him.
Feuilly is very excited about the international football situation, while horribly dismayed by all the godawful things about it. He has also devoted himself to the study of the rules, in order to be indignant with the referees in full knowledge of the cause. Just ask him about the offside rule.
The rest of my characters are pretty much standing over in a corner rolling their eyes about the whole concept. Djehuty is more a senet guy than a sportsball guy. Gredya mildly disapproves of her children's interest in footballs and frisbees. The Chief is full of esoteric knowledge of sports teams worldwide; I choose to believe that her mother is from Baltimore and that she roots for Baltimore teams, but only in a casual way.
Ursula is too busy living in a cabin in the woods to really pay attention to sports.

As the championship progresses, I am sure that either Write or I will put up EPs with our charries watching the footie -- Gene Hunt is always fun that way. And while today, I plan to go out to watch the Iceland game unless it rains terribly, I'm sure there will be more Iceland games that Ragnar could watch, trying to make sense of it at all.

Most of my pups are sort of indifferent to sports. Kirk is from that time beyond time when all the organized leagues on Earth has strangely gone away (and before the time when Sisko revived baseball). Athletic competition to him is strictly individual. Swamp Thing and CharlieQuestion are from the present era of sports, and never bothered being fans. Swampie just never found it interesting; Charlie rinds the whole thing a tremendous waste of time and money, an engine designed to bilk cities of cash and exploit the athletes while proving mindless entertainment to the masses. (Also, Charlie considers the near-riot between the Russian and English fans proof that the whole international soccer tourney thing is just an excuse for everyone to be jerks.)
But...Cyborg is still into pretty much every sport there is, and gets into the whole Team USA thing. So he's trying to watch the Copa tourney, but prefers the higher scoring women's game. He also roots for all the teams from Jump City in all the sports.
And Knox...Knox is me. I gave his Gotham City possession of the Mets and the Giants and all the other teams I root for. His passion is the Mets, and I wish I could tell him that in 2000 and 2006 and 2015 the Mets WILL be good again. International competition moves him insofar as he roots for the USA, but the Olympics bore him silly and soccer is something he watches every four years and finds almost as dull as track and field.

Quentin loves hockey and I'm not completely sure of which teams he follows, I have some ideas but not enough from canon to say for certain.
I think Charles watches sports sometimes and probably played a little in school but always more to fit in than because he was interested. As someone who grew up near New York, I think he liked baseball and I could see him playing rugby in school but not really his thing.
In canon, its shown that Jane enjoys playing cricket and watching it. Professional sports wasn't a big thing in her time, but she would have cheered for her brothers.
William's from an era when baseball is starting to grow but the closest to a sport he would care about is the world of what's now rodeo.
Ivan is someone I could see interested in sports but they don't really come up in canon.
The others I think would only care if someone they knew was into watching.
