Considering one of the most well-known Fereldan folk heroes was supposedly a werewolf, and half of the noble families in the country are supposedly descended from his line, it's possible Alistair's already part werewolf!
I mean. It's not likely, because: folk hero. And it would be, like, a single cell of werewolf blood by this point, if the werewolf part were true. But you never know with these things in Thedas.
Isn't there also some sketchy business with Calenhad and dragon blood? Now this is making me wonder what fraction of Alistair is actually as human. It's already at most half...
Yeah, there's some weird stuff in the comics/novels where Alistair can, like, exert a mild level of control over dragons because Calenhad chugged a bunch of dragon blood for ~THE POWER~ at some point? Or something? I'm still reading them and quietly mouthing 'what the fuck' at some bits. Whether it'll make the leap to Millicanon remains up for debate.
But yeah, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Maric's brother's cousin twice removed was a Qunari.
I have a crack AU in my head in which Emcee gets fatally wounded and makes it into Milliways on the brink of death, and Eric has a Very Deep Internal Struggle before turning him into a vampire to save his life. I think Emcee would make a pretty decent vampire, despite Eric's doubts. Eventually. He would definitely freak out a lot over the physical changes, and inflicting pain was never one of his strongest suits (which would probably be a disqualification in the first place). But if he doesn't drive Eric crazy, he could learn and be good at it!
Pam hates werewolves. She would never be a werewolf.
Floki, actually, might like to be a werewolf. The kind of werewolf that skulks around in the shadows and stays away from people because he's conscious of the harm he could do.
*laughs manically, which makes the pup uncomfortable*
Hank is excused for this one due to chemically altered mutations. Touji is excused as well, for reasons.
Ahsoka says werewolf as they seem more natural.
Sam seems to be saying vampire as he'd be able to arrange a regular supply of blood to keep things in line. Or so he hopes.
Sabine is noping right out of answering.
Rollo goes straight for werewolf and does not collect $200.
Izana presents an interesting problem for vampirism. Would a body which relies on photosynthesis be able to function as a vampire? Would vampire be able to exist in space with solar radiation (either artificial or natural) being so prevalent?
Selina seems to prefer...actually, I'm not sure. I had first thought werewolf, but I think vampire is just as valid for her, especially if we go the Carmilla route.
Eriond is Nope (although werewolf is possible, in which case he would probably be just like Garion's family, people who are sometimes wolves--other way around for Poledra), R2 is Nope, and Evelyn is so terrified just based on what Thedas is generally like that I am not getting an answer at all (ran away screaming).
Lois has to be a werewolf, because she is not the one with thwarted, poisonous love (that's Lana, although he's the one getting poisoned there). (And yes, there is a short in pre-boot where Dracula bites the solar battery.) She probably ends up a alot like Kitty Norville.
Anakin: vampire. He has it all: returns from (near) death, after he's turned an affinity with dark and dies when in (metaphorical) light, cannot have normal people interaction with physical environment, mass murder, romantic angst. He's probably about the same.
Tavi: . . . Can he be a non-wolf were-creature? Because were-tavar is Correct.
Enjolras would not like either, please and thank you. And honestly a lot depends on the specific mythology we're going with here -- like, do werewolves have any self-control? Do vampires have to feed on the human living? But if there's no choice...
Okay, the standard depictions of course point him straight at vampire: pale, charismatically compellingly attractive, reserved, controlled, etc. But are you kidding? A vampire is a straight-up aristocracy metaphor, swanning about being glamorous and eye-catching (and/or hideous) and draining the life of others to survive, and like hell is Enjolras signing on for that. He isn't particularly suited to lycanthropy by personality, but if he has to pick one of the two it's definitely that. Worst case, he could absolutely make arrangements for getting a discreet friend to lock him in a cellar three nights a month. And Bahorel and Prouvaire at least would think it was AWESOME (and hilarious).
Cosette is also disinterested in both, but would pick werewolf if she had to pick one. Her reasons are much less metaphorical: she would hate the prospect of never going out in the sun again. And vampirism would seem awfully cruel and kinda gross to her, whereas the wildness of being a werewolf is something she'd be both repelled by and kinda drawn to.
Thor, come on, werewolf all the way. He's already a shaggy brawling berserker who sometimes yells at the sky. (Loki's the vampire here.)
Kazul refuses this choice. She's a DRAGON. Adding on either of those others would just be undignified and would make her less cool, thank you, and why would she want to lose mass? And trying to drain the blood of fellow dragons is just a recipe for crankiness from all concerned.
I can't actually decide for Jim. Like, a vampire would seem to make sense in many ways, but the immortality aspect of it is a massive nope. A werewolf seems a bit uncouth in comparison...but then, there's a wildness to it that appeals. And werewolves aren't immortal, or are at least easier to kill. So if he had to choose, yeah, probably werewolf.
He'd be pretty wild. Throw off the shackles of human life every full moon, and just go for it. He'd be small, fast, and lethal. With slick and well-styled fur.
Then I will suggest it to the mods -- I need to email them about AU week anyway, so I can put in this bit as well, making it clear that this is a different plot.
I think most of mine will be vampires -- it will be fun to have vamp!Harman! Ragnar is definitely a were, though
I am very glad that I don't actually know the song, and I'm not going to ask Spotify about it. I made that mistake once, with 'Puff the Magic Dragon' when I couldn't place that reference... :-((((
Gringoire would be a vampire. He wouldn't want to be a vampire; he wouldn't want to be a werewolf, either. But he would end up a vampire, and have no idea what was going on, and assume he had just Come Down With Something.
Joly would be genuinely appalled at both options, and if he had to make a choice, and wasn't allowed to consult with friends, he'd...probably go with werewolf? The whole " can't see sun, limited diet" thing is really too much like an illness for him. Besides, he knows people who turn into wolves sometimes, and they seem all right! (Oh he so hopes they're all right.)
Bahorel would be a werewolf in a heartbeat. It's a cosmic injustice that he's not a werewolf already right now and since always, as far as he's concerned. Vampires, on the other hand, are not only a blatant aristocracy metaphor since Byron at the latest, but are also a Byron metaphor to his eye, and hey, he likes Byron's work just fine, guy had a good eye for the dramatic, buuuut he was also a Baron, and all that goes with that, and an English Baron at that. So. No vampiring for him.
That's easy for my main two - Jay as a werewolf, as much to piss of vampire Bruce as anything else. And Sinric - seductive, pale little Sinric as a vampire.

... I am sort of hoping this DE was a warning for a bar-wide Werewolves and Vampires plot, though.
