What animal would you pick to represent your pup? If this is a canon animal that is not native to our reality, please include a description.

Alternately, for those who haven't done this before, what would you pick at the His Dark Materials-type daemon?

I'mma do the daemon one, 'cos I've been figuring those out for my pups for a long dingdang time now.

Ellen's daemon is the northern grasshopper mouse. They're small creatures, and cute in the way that a lot of mice are. They are also carnivorous, and regularly attack and kill giant centipedes, scorpions, and the occasional snake. Also they maintain hunting territories and howl at night.

Fawkes' daemon is a hippopotamus, which has made for some miserable times for him because hippos need kind of a lot of water, but enh, the Wasteland's a miserable place anyway. Getting better but still miserable.

Shephard's daemon is a small swarm of European honeybees. Some people are more invested in the group than in the individual, so it was gonna be either bees or ants for him, and his mother kept beehives, so.

Varric's daemon is some kind of fox, probably a red vixen.

Gordon's daemon is a tardigrade. Damn things are all but unkillable.

Stacker Pentecost's daemon is an osprey.

Hernan Guerra is one I haven't brought in more than once and keep meaning to. I'm still trying to figure out his daemon. I'm pretty sure that despite growing up in the American Southwest it's something Kryptonian.

Santo's daemon is a jaguar.

Quicksilver's daemon is a pronghorn. The only land animal faster than the pronghorn is the cheetah, and cheetahs are sprinters. Pronghorns can do forty-five miles an hour for several miles with no sign of tiring and can go significantly faster than that if they feel like it.


For those of you in need of some inspiration as to what animals to pick, I have been maintaining a tumblr dedicated to interesting and potentially suitable animals for some time: Animals I Want To See As Somebody's Daemon. Be warned, there's a lot of spiders and insects on the list, and the top entry at the moment is a giant swimming centipede.

Hal's daemon is a stoat, aka ermine. Persistent, slippery, fearless, lethal, turns into a ~faaaabulous~ image of royalty.

Jim - magpie. It's an well-used fandom thing by now, probably originating from the fact he stole the Crown Jewels to the tune of Rossini's The Thieving Magpie.

And it's just kind of him. Flits about, likes shiny things. There's a lot of folklore about them, like it's bad luck to see one on its own, it carries a drop of Devil's blood under it's tongue. They're cunning, they mimic other birds, they're intelligent and can solve puzzles.

Jim: And they're pretty, don't forget that.

It would be a cliché on so many fronts to say Alistair's daemon is a dog, starting with the fact that Fereldans are sometimes pejoratively called "dog lords" and going right on down from there, but...yeah, I can't see it being anything else. All the Fereldan symbolism aside, HDM canon suggests that people with dog daemons tend to be followers rather than leaders, and considering Alistair's intense reluctance to lead? Yup.

What I'm not sure about is whether it'd be a mabari (the even more obvious choice) or a different breed. He's a trained warrior, so a war dog would fit, but I kind of like the idea of it settling as, like, a big doofy golden retriever before most of his training happened. It'd definitely be something big and slobbery and friendly, as all good dogs must be.

Pretty sure YT's daemon would be a honey badger. Relatively small, but totally badass.

I'm torn on this one, but one option I can see is that Jamie's daemon, to his own dismay and that of all superstitious persons, is a snake.

There's lot of Homestuck symbolism for Dave that includes crows. An alternate version of him even merged with one during the game.

It fits pretty well! Crows are smart and highly social, and they're always blabbing about something. They are also loyal to other crows and will help each other out with problems or large predators. Previous generations of crows will also hang around and help raise their new siblings.

Darcy's daemon is a North American Porcupine. Full of snuffly goodwill and lonerness + all the quills.

I can't think of anyone else's right now, except Winona (Clint's Daemon), who is a fast-talking no-nonsense (except all-the-nonsense) justice-oriented bite-your-face-off red-tailed hawk. I love her.

Oh, also, forgot to mention for May I switch between the Bearded Vulture and the Andean Condor.

Oswin's daemon is a housecat - fluffy and teasing and coy and if you make her scared she will 100% rip your face off.

Glorfindel's daemon is an eagle - brave, fierce, fearless, and oftentimes unheading of overwhelming danger.

Katya's daemon is an Akita - very stubborn and loyal, wary of those she doesn't know.

Jemma's daemon is a hedgehog - chatty and curious with a strong ability to self-defend.

McCoy's daemon is a mule - stubborn and ornery and clever, with absolutely no compunction against kicking someone in the balls if needed.

Sam's daemon is a bluebird - perpetually a bright spark.

Lin's daemon is a pelican, with their symbolism of self-sacrifice.

This is likely to be a mix and I'm skipping Amelia since she's a dragon.

Eliot is a llama, either as his animal self or a daemon. I mean, how could he not? (Links to small animated gif)

Touji, according to canon descriptions, would be a wolf. As to a daemon, well I keep trying to think of a shinkigami for him (at least as far as the anime and manga go, he's the only one who doesn't have a personal one), and I can't decide between some type of butterfly or moth, or a weasel (or similar) with metallic fur.

Izana already has a daemon, an albino Ryukyu flying fox from when we didn't the daemon plot during AU week. I don't remember the name of the fox though.

Hank...I like the monkey form of him from X-Men Fairy Tales (in fact, maybe I should bring Aoi in for AU week.) He also has a daemon, a female American Raccoon.

Selina would be a cat of course. I am thinking a black stray, short haired, that has a lot of Siamese in her makeup. Same could work for her daemon.

Oh, and Sabine's daemon--using our worlds creatures cause I'm not familiar with SW's vast fauna--would be a chameleon; color shifts and a wicked long range attack.
