And now he's all fixated on Stockholm Syndrome, which isn't anywhere near the worst of Athelstan's current problems.

Well, the point is, he now thinks Athelstan never really had a choice about loving him, and doesn't really want to go home to Kattegat, just get free of Ecbert. Ragnar feels he left Athelstan without anywhere to go, anywhere he would be welcome, anywhere he can feel at home. It's all his fault, and he has no idea how to set Athelstan free and find him a future. He's ruined the life of the people he loves most -- first Lagertha, now Athelstan...

Well, the second sentence is more or less true. But Athelstan doesn't hold Ragnar responsible for it, particularly.

At least Ragnar got that all will not be fine if he just brings Athelstan back to Kattegat, that the things which are wrong exist beyond geography in Athelstan's psyche and the factual disparity of their cultures, which they can't just bridge by say-so. The details of that, though, he didn't get quite right yet.
