Thursday DE: welcome to Galorndon Core

What's a time your character tried to do a good thing...and it didn't work out so well? What went wrong?

25 nerd points, redeemable for a thumbs-up and sympathy at misspending your youth like I did, if you recognize the reference in the title without looking it up

Jay, trying to talk to Jemma. What went wrong? He spoke.

Same for Emcee in modern Berlin.

Near the neutral zone! Figures I'd get that one. :)

And "where no good deed goes unpunished!"

Bingo. :) As for mishaps, Sariel misunderstanding Penn and Teller's partnership and defending Teller against a knife-throwing Penn, unaware that he may not have needed it. She still doesn't like Penn. And misses Teller. Also, being entirely out of her depth when trying to assist a traumatized Gene Roe. She still regrets possibly making things briefly worse for him.

The last two or three story arcs in the Swamp Thing series just ended had Alec trying to fix things by being nice. Like bringing three of his predecessors back to human life in thanks for helping him defy the Parliament of Trees. Two immediately conspired against him, one with another not-entirely-an-enemy he tried to talk nicely to. The whole "treat your foes like reasonable beings" thing DOES NOT work with avatars. A lesson I think he's learning.

Word of God says Wilford's first video was basically this. Nothing went wrong, necessarily, aside from the execution. Rather than actually finding any evidence of Slender Man's crimes, Wilford just managed to pigeonhole Slender Man into admitting to them. The Slender Man videos were the last time Wilford ever did anything even remotely "good".

Randomly, in things nobody understands but we all love it anyway:

Apparently in Japan, Portland has a mascot called Mr Dude. This is his theme song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRBQ-b8QJ-0

I mean, Bossuet and Feuilly tried really damn hard to expand voting rights and end a violently repressive government, but violently repressive governments are hard to budge. :/

William Douglas steals a horse for his dad and gets a beating for it, and ditto when he defies his father to help Jamie break from his controlling regents.

BUT LUCKILY I also have Ursula who comes from a Miyazaki world, where good deeds get you friends and character growth!

...yeah.

And even leaving out that big giant thing, basically their entire lives, except for the Trio period.
