Thursday DE

Expanding a little on Maru's question of the other day:

Let's say Bar is on strike. Indefinitely. And our characters are all Bound here. How do they survive? Banding together and forming a commune to live off the land? Survival of the fittest? Where do your characters fit in, what skills do they contribute (or use for themselves!) and how long do they survive?

I feel like the Amis are early subscribers to the agricultural commune idea. Lesgle is canonically a disaster at everything ever, but by gosh he'll make an effort! Feuilly is a good bit more useful.

Gredya and her kids survive until someone decides that having a wood full of hungry werewolves is too dangerous for the rest of the community. I feel like Shephard would be very polite about it, though, for instance?

Jim could organise everything to the utmost efficiency. Whether he would is doubtful. Far more likely to set everyone against each other for the lulz. :\

No one has to starve while Swamp Thing is around! Assuming they like vegetables. (Don't worry. He can make anything grow, and there is no need to eat the hallucinogenic tubers that grow from his body, as seen in a classic story from around 1987 by Alan Moore.)

That's an incredibly useful power! Has that ever been really dealt with in the comics? The whole Potential Food-Growing Powerhouse thing?

As far as Alec is concerned, it's a bad idea. Using the Green that way creates imbalances in nature. We saw that when a pretender to the throne used his powers to do things like make whiskey trees in Scotland.

Ooh, so would that figure in with Milliways at all, or is it far enough removed from "Nature" that he wouldn't worry about it?

In the hypothesized emergency, he would be willing to feed people. And I think that whatever passes for The Green in the Bar is a different entity than what can be found on Earth.

Rae could help organize a team of people to prepare food in the kitchen to make sure everyone is fed. Regarding the actual cooking, she is vegetarian, and so would only prepare meatless meals.

Rollo would be happy to help hunt and defend if things go Lord of the Flies.

Ahsoka would be good for hunting or fighting as well, and might even be good for keeping a weather eye on the morale of the group to forestall problems. She might even be able to ape being Padme enough to negotiate if things start to break down.

Sabine is good for helping to repair things, general labor, or hunting.

Pino is helpful in that she doesn't need to eat food. She would be good for weeding and anything a child can be taught to do.

Izana is also helpful in that they only need to eat food once a week. They'd be good for gardening and building stuff, but not so good with hunting if it came to that.

Sam would be good for hunting, healing, and keeping the morale high and settling disputes.

Hank would be great with rigging mechanical things and gardening. He likely would be good with hunting as well if someone felt inclined to teach him.

Selina seems like a base camp sort. She'd be good for helping build or garden, though she'd try and get out of work. Eventually she'd likely be a good hunter also, but at heart she's a city girl.

Jay teaching her how to stalk and hunt could be fun. Especially when he shows her how useful the techniques can be in a city. After all, Jay learnt from Batman using criminals.

I really like this idea and will need to figure out where in canon she'd feel the need to hunt better. I mean, she already hunts a bit, but she goes for easy game. She knows she's a kitten in a jungle full of tigers and so is cautious. Soon enough her adventurous side or Bruce's investigation will push her to learn though.

I need to rewatch her canon to realign my head space with where she is in canon. I know vaguely where she is, but other pups have been louder.

Wilford would be one of the first people to get himself killed after he tries to start something with the wrong person.

Steve and Furiosa would both organize and delegate as needed, dig gardens, harvest food, etc. etc., though I think Furiosa would be better at growing things than city-boy Steve.

Sherlock would welcome the opportunity to live on cigarettes and tea, and might only get concerned when the tea runs out. He would pointedly Not Get Involved until he saw a need he could fill.

Emcee would be...pretty useless, in terms of manual labor and being outdoors! But even though he rarely does so he's actually good at organising large groups of people and would be happy to work with more experienced, action-based leader-types in that sense. He would also be concerned that everyone would be getting enough to eat and drink, especially the children, so he'd see the need to take detailed inventory on everything being produced. (He may be bad with math but he's still German, ahaha.)

Seimei can actually grow things pretty well. He cheats with magic, of course. He is also good at repairing things. And he can sew!

YT is a city girl but will not shirk at doing hard work if someone really has to. She would need a little direction and coaching, though.

Go Team Team! Bahorel and Joly are both 100 percent here for the People's Commune. Bahorel actually can farm if he needs to, and do the assorted labor of being stuck out in the middle of nowhere and having to make practically everything.

Joly's a doctor, and used to living and working with pre-electricity conditions, and also enough of a scientist and tinkerer-type that he can probably rig a few useful machines up over time.

Djali is a goat! A girl goat! She's probably an essential part of the community's future, really.

Gringoire is, as always, utterly useless.
(...okay, he'd probably actually be a fantastic goatherd.)

Jay can build just about anything from scavenged garage parts so heat and light can be provided. Also tracking tools so people don't get lost on hunting trips.

Sinric's meager magical skills might be useful - he can see well in the dark, make water clean to drink and light a fire in wet conditions. And he can entertain everyone when it gets dark.
