Monday DE: it's midnight somewhere

Nicked from a Tumblr meme: Your character is on Drunk History (at least the Milliways version), what would they drink & what topic would they discuss? Despite the name, drinks don't have to be alcoholic.

ETA: Looks like DW is still having trouble. Email notifications are slow at the least.

Well, Drunken History with Amascut it likely to devolve into drunken sobbing unless maybe it is about the Kharidian Desert Campaign of the God Wars. Mostly because she gets to laugh at how her family didn't even matter while gods from other pantheons were fighting over Kharidian cities. Luckily for her sense of dignity it is extremely difficult to get her drunk, so the drink would have to be marrentil or catnip infused PanGalactic Gargle Blaster, Atlantean Wine, or Braindeath 'rum' from her world. Or, whatever the goddess of Hedonism from her world brews up.

With Fairy Fixit it would have to be the coup by the Fairy Mafia and then the glorious return of the Monarchy. And... hmm, there was a drink Teja served to her that I remember reading was slightly insecticidal. Well, beyond being alcoholic. -- Ah, it was May Punch, and it contains woodruff, a moth repellent.

It would be hilaaaarious if the whole cast of "Vikings" got drunk to talk about the history of Vikings. Like, the actual characters, or the actors, or the actors in-character. Including Athelstan who would be sitting quietly while all the other men mussed his hair.

Emcee would be drinking gin and talking about the Weimar Republic, the heyday of culture and entertainment in Germany, and how Berlin really was a beautiful city.

Pam hates talking about things. But if she had to, she would probably give a brief rundown on what it was like being an independent woman in turn-of-the century America. She can't get drunk, but someone with a nice O+ blood type would do.

Haha, you're at least the second Milliways person who I know has listened to the album. He really is a charming entertainer with genuine emotion. I was actually at one of those Cafe Carlyle shows, so I took a lot of inspiration from that to play Emcee.

Saw him live. Cried. A lot.

I was to see the Vikings drunk talking about Viking history and a slightly tipsy Sinric adding on the history of Alfred the Great.

Did you want an extensive lecture on pre-Imperial Alera and how Alerans once had no furycrafting and some of the building and weapons technology they used, and the development of furycrafting and how this played a key role in the founding of the pre-Vord Realm? Well, too bad! If you brought that spiced wine--and by that we mean actual spices, not stimulants in wine, because he learned through observation that being a drug addict kills--then Tavi will explain why establishment academia is a) biased for any number of historical reasons, b) discriminatory to those with less furycrafting ability, and c) also by coincidence factually incorrect and he has the evidence to prove it (despite nearly failing a history class over this once). And he will do so at length. With enthusiasm.

(In Milliways, he might also go off on a tangent of his determination of approximately where and when Alerans left Earth by accident, as he's worked out the dates, and his calculations as to what Earth year he thinks he's in based on calendar comparisons.)

YT will drink whatever you have that's not gin.

She'll talk about how Ross Perot got elected President in 1992 and how his administration cooked the books to hide the astounding amount of national debt he racket up. If permitted, she might talk about how his successor's asinine fiscal policy (aimed at addressing the debt issue) spurred hyperinflation, such that as of 2008, a million U.S. dollars is basically pocket change, and Hong Kong dollars are fast becoming the currency of choice in America.

Wilford would be drinking Jack and Coke, and talk about the beginnings of the SCP Foundation. Or, that's what it would start at. It would quickly devolve into incoherent rambling.

Dodger would be drinking some fruity soda, and talking about how the apocalypse started. Which, again, wouldn't make much sense before too long.

Hannibal would drink single malt whiskey and then discuss the Pazzi conspiracy in early Renaissance Florence.

Sameth would drink spiced wine and talk about Charter magic, so many facets of it with a focus on whatever his most recent project is.

William would have whiskey and talk about books, an informal history of the dime novel.

Will would have whiskey and talk about Robin.

Quentin doesn't get drunk easily but with some goblin fruit wine, that would effect him, but he wouldn't want it, he might get going on the Firstborn, who they are, the ones he knows, all the trouble they cause.

Charles would drink scotch and discuss the history of genetics and evolution.

Ivan would have brandy and talk about the other side of certain events in Barrayaran history like how his Mother and Aunt Cordelia actually helped a deal happen. There would be lots of oh god, that's all Miles' fault in it.

Moist would drink MacAbre and talk about the history of breeding and using Lipwigzers in Uberwald and on the Disc.

Jane would sip wine and discuss the history of women authors.

Demeter would drink Atlantean and complain about her family and talk about how they keep messing history up particularly in France.

Tumnus would have wine and talk Narnian history and how difficult the archives are to find.

Jay, bourbon and the history of Gotham architecture. In my headcanon, he's a nerd for it.

Sunshine would settle with Long Island Iced Tea and tell the tale of Ruth Graves Wakefield and the invention of the chocolate chip cookie, or Lizzie Coleman White and the domestication of blueberries.

Yrael would sit down (likely somewhere Sameth can hear) with half of a bottle of Atlantean to tell the story of the second rising of Orannis from his own perspective, and fill in the parts of everyone else involved as well. The impressions would likely get more colorful as he becomes more inebriated.

Okay, that out of the way:

Cosette doesn't know a whole lot of detailed history, which is a thing she feels kind of sheepish and ignorant about now. She'd like to learn more, but I think about the only thing she could hold forth on would be something Biblical. It would be 100% 19th century Catholic dogma version, with zero archaeology etc involved, but I bet Cosette giggly on something ladylike telling Bible stories would be ADORABLE.

Thor can tell stories of his ancestors! He's drinking... hmm, okay, if he's drinking to get drunk speedily, it's not even mead. It's Asgardian akavit or something.

Kazul has a very nice brandy, served in dainty cups the size of buckets, and she is Explaining You A Thing about draconic history.

Dr. Dinosaur... uh...

Man this guy is basically a walking talking episode of Drunk History all the time, isn't he? Except that he's drunk on mad science and the history is aggressively wrong.

Ha, I didn't even notice the typo! Phones have accustomed us all to these things.

Anyway, well, if we're talking diplomacy, Enjolras has plenty of thoughts on that too! Which he would be very happy to discuss/argue about at length! I'm not saying he and Bail Organa would necessarily agree, but Enjolras does have a solidly pragmatic streak to go with his fiery idealism. And would be so up for talking politics with Star Wars Republic politicians, oh man yes.
