DE: Missing You

I have been wondering recently why there are absolutely no characters from'Hamilton', THE popular canon during jour, in the bar yet, not even minor ones like The Bullet.

What other canons have you been missing, and what characters would you most like to see?

Game of Thrones. Is there anyone here from that canon?

Tyrion Lannister would be a joy in Milliways, especially if he'd clash with Moriarty.

I have wondered that exact thing! And have briefly considered apping Ham myself, but I don't think I will. I have wondered about GoT too. Didn't we briefly have a Lannister or two?

Also, I was wondering if we'd get an influx of Doctor Strange pups this month or next, and hoping so. Mainly because I want the temptation of the Doc taken away from me. :/

I'm surprised we've not seen any Doctor Strange pups yet, too, and definitely want to see them. I'll admit that I spent a good deal of the movie with Sunshine in my head going "I want to learn that. And that."

Which, come to think of it, makes me miss writing Ned something fierce.

I mean, you run into some really complicated issues when you take the Hamilton characters out of their self-contained stage setting. Which isn't to say no one should do it (No, seriously, that's not what I'm saying!), but I know I run into some very tricky territory whenever I start thinking about how it would work?

I think that's what put me off. Not even necessarily the issues, just the knowledge that there are some, and the fact that I don't have a lot of decent American History knowledge. Because I think you'd probably need that to really make them work.

Unless you just confined them strictly to the stage-world version, in which case it doesn't matter so much? But I don't think I'd be comfortable doing that, so I pretty quickly decided against happing anyone.

I have said on chat that I would really like us to have Mitchell Hundred, civil engineer-turned-superhero-turned-politician from the comic series Ex Machina. We used to have one back in the Livejournal days. I would also like to see a Spider Jerusalem from Transmetropolitan

Most anyone from Inuyasha would be nice too.

There so many popular things underrepresented, or not represented at all. For instance, we've never had a pup from The Sopranos or almost any HBO series but GoT. No one from The Americans. No one from Astro City, or Saga, or any creator owned comic by Ed Brubaker. I can't think of anyone from any Pixar film but The Incredibles, and I don't recall seeing anyone from Frozen. It's always fascinated me what things make it here and what things don't. Though a good rule of thumb is still "the less fantasy elements. the less likely to represented in the Bar."

All that said, of recent canons I would like to see in the Bar that aren't, I would say iZombie and Elementary. We really need to have a battle of Sherlocks, and of Watsons, and of Moriarities. And iZombie would really fit in here.

Also, we need more post-Rebirth DC characters. By which I mean Damien Wayne.

After I had first settled into Milliways, I also began to wonder why there were no Sopranos characters, if that isn't oddly specific enough for you. And I'd even considered apping Paulie Walnuts or Chris Moltisanti. Then when Boardwalk Empire came out, I tried my hand at test driving Nucky Thompson, but it didn't stick. I think you're right about the fantasy elements rule. I mean, it's not a solid rule, but more of a guideline.

Oh and speaking of Pixar, I've always wanted to play Randall Boggs from Monsters, Inc.

I can sort of understand some of these canons not being reprepresented, especially Game of Thrones and the Sopranos. Some characters and shows are very, very interesting for what they are, but in a vacuum, can come off as incredibly offensive for all the wrong reasons. But often times, if you ignore some of those elements, the character is not longer true.

Gene Hunt's kind of an example of this. Take away his homophobia, and you have a more palatable character, but that character isn't Gene Hunt. We're a relatively small group, and we mostly all know each other here, but there have been a few characters in the past I've considered apping, until I had a moment of, "Wellll, not everyone's seen the canon, and this could go poorly." So I didn't app.

We actually briefly had someone from Carnivale, I remember them and being really curious about the series.

I find it fascinating who works in Milliways and sometimes a character who works here doesn't work elsewhere. I've played Will in games run by former Milliways' players and it didn't really click. I haven't played in enough other games to know what it is that makes a character perfect for Milliways and not for others or who lasts and doesn't.

Fantasy or an openness about strange in the world in an IC seems to be helpful and a canon with some stretch space. HBO shows tend to be fairly tightly plotted.

Carmillia: The web series or the original book. Milliways could always use more vampires and/or lesbians right?
MisSpelled: Accidental witches for the win.
RWBY: Grimm fairytales with a kick, a punch, and a blast.

Dragonriders of Pern
Robotech

Gunnerkrigg Court
Girl Genius

For the better part of the last decade, I have been constantly surprised at the lack of Disneys in the bar. The only one that stands out is Stitch.

Actually, that's something the bar really seems to be lacking right now in general, is the non-human sort of characters. I remember Diego, and Virgil, and a few other weirdos wandering about, but they never seem to last long. We've got Swamp Thing and Hank McCoy now, but I can't think of anyone else. From a meta standpoint, this pandimensional bar is all rather samey in terms of the worlds and people who get brought in. (Which makes sense also, since the vast majority of canons out there will mirror reality.) But I'm missing some of the more outlandish creeps and weirdos that one would expect in a place like this.

And Porco Rosso just popped in my head and I am laughing. ETA: Oh, and Tall SPin pups! I think there's even a reboot coming next year.

There's a part of me that deeply wants to play Marc Dusqueen from Grand Central Arena.
Problems: Marc's back story includes breaking out of a fan created simulation by staging a crossover event, and teaming up with characters including Captain Kirk and Kim Possible to win his way to freedom. (Ryk Spoor made this up, not me folks!)
Also Marc's from the future and at one point in the most recent book mentions that he's not worried about gambling since he's won a game of poker against Dave Strider among other characters. So.
Just having him come to the Bar is a recipe for a bad, bad situation.
Also, I have no brains to brain with.

I'm also listening to a lot of Dragnet at the moment. *Bum-da-bum-bum!*

I'm actually not that surprised we don't have anyone from Hamilton, stage musicals are part of their own contained reality which it can be hard to separate from when playing in Milliways. I had some of that issue with the Pirate King, it wasn't possible to have a long term anything with him because he only truly existed within the world of his operetta. For Hamilton, I think you'd have to make choices about how to play it, what's the balance point between history and musical and how do some of the staging parts of the play translate into Bar. I wonder if that might be part of the issue with animated movies as well, we did have a Zazu once and some minions but again, they're very specific worlds. If I thought I could pull it off or knew how to make him work, I'd love to try playing Kit Cloudkicker from TaleSpin.

I would love to see someone from the worlds of Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom. Also more characters from Seanan McGuire's books, Incryptid is full of monsters and ass kicking people.

Its tricky to say who would be good to have because many of my favorites characters to play off tend to be from canons that I'd never heard of until I interacted with them.

Leverage, anyone from Leverage.
