I know, given that we all live on the internet here and it exploded yesterday, that everyone already knows. That said, we are all into stories and many of us into science as well, so I just wanted to acknowledge the terrible losses the world has suffered the last four days.

Also, the flamethrowers and cacti to throw at 2016 are over in a corner.

(I apologize for focusing on the one that touched me a little more deeply.)

Vera Rubin: pioneered investigation into dark matter, 23 July 1928--25 December 2016.
Richard Adams: author of Watership Down and many others, 9 May 1920--27 December 2016.
Carrie Fisher: script-doctor, writer, feminist, activist and speaker for those with mental illness and drug addiction, dog-mommy, actor, complete smart-ass, iconic inspiration to so many women and girls, gorgeous in youth and age, and our Princess and our General: 21 October 1956--27 December 2016.
EDIT: Debbie Reynolds: actor, singer, historian, humanitarian, business woman, and also mother of Carrie Fisher: 1 April 1932--28 December 2016

A moment of silence for these giants who gave so much to the world and touched many of us deeply.

EDIT: Also, best thoughts to Carrie Fisher's service dog Gary, who is hopefully finding a home with her daughter Billie Lourd; and all the condolences with Todd Fisher and Billie Lourd.

I have been cursing this year for quite a while, but especially since yesterday. As my friend the Nazgul put it, 2016 is running amok on its final mile; if it was a person, the SWAT team would already be deployed.

We are going to blast it into oblivion in some fiery ceremony on New Year's.

I'm still processing things and am just kind of dealing as best I can.

I also just saw TMZ is reporting Debbie Reynolds as suffering a stroke. I refuse to say anything more about 2016 as it seems to keep thinking it's a challenge.
