Monday DE

Inspired by some time I spent in a forest yesterday, what is your pup's relationship to nature like? Do they avoid it or need time out in it?

How about yourself?

Avoid. It's icky, and there's no wifi.

lol is that you, or Jim?

Lol, that's Jim. I didn't see the 'you' option when I posted this. I like nature! When I drag myself out there. I grew up in the middle of a forest, so I mostly feel like I've had my fill.

It's just the way it was worded amused me. I don't know why.

Ellen's relationship to nature is really not good given that roughly nine tenths of it is still VERY VERY ANGRY at what the human race did in October of 2077, and has mutated to giant size and extra venomous status to express this fact, plus some of it now breathes fire.

Barry - He generally prefers to study nature from afar. Reading about it or watching nature docs are great, and it's fascinating stuff, but he's definitely a city kid. He will make the occasional nature trip, though, if it's for Joe. Fishing and camping aren't Barry's favorite, but he'll make exceptions for the man.

Matt - Would probably enjoy nature if he ever let himself leave the city.

Charlie - He spends plenty of time out in the sticks with rinky dink arenas and carnivals looking for matches for his bots, but he doesn't 'commune' with nature a whole lot.

Logan - Time out in nature is a must for him. When he starts feeling too stir crazy bad things happen to other people and nobody wants that.

Hellboy - Tolerates nature, but would much rather have his cats and TVs. He likes visiting nature because it usually means he gets to hit something, but if he were ever taken on an actual camping trip he'd probably get bored pretty quick.

Bill - Loves to camp and fish, but doesn't see the point in hunting. He doesn't get out nearly as often as he'd like to, but generally given time off at home hitting the lake to throw in a line one of his first go-to's to relax.

The Tick - Besides having a great camaraderie with a particular Sycamore on the corner, and an ongoing feud with a tricksy pigeon that likes to hang out outside the window of Arthur's apartment, Tick doesn't have much to do with nature.

Me, I fall in line close to Logan with the easy going nature of Bill. If I don't get out of the city every once in awhile I get stir crazy and try to stab people, but once I get to the lake or woods I'm content to sit back in a chair and snooze the day away.

Tess likes the outdoors well enough. Horse riding, picnics, it's all good. Beaches and water she loves. She can't live without getting to a beach every now and then for some quality diving and surfing.

Kylo really doesn't care much.

Sikozu is not used to being out in nature so she's a touch wary of it, but also finds some of it fascinating.

Amascut comes from a medieval-ish fantasy canon, and being indoors isn't all that great, unless you live in a posh palace or castle or dungeon (yes, I said it, a posh dungeon), or if you live in the desert then having a roof over your head for shade is awesome as long as you have ventilation (hot enclosed spaces are not awesome). Plus, she lives among the people, not some heavenly pantheon or dreary underworld. That being said, dreary caves are cool. Nature and civilization aren't such separate things. There are wildernesses and woods and the wild untamed seas separate from relatively civilized areas, but it all blends together, mostly. There are some cities that wall themselves off from nature (well, from enemies really) but then slums always develop and create an alternate source of wildness.

Ok, I'll stop waxing poetic about the nature/civilization dichotomy. Amascut is fine with nature. She also finds the notion that anything is natural absurd, though.

Fairy Fixit isn't fine with the outdoors, especially the wind. Sure, in game she flutters about in an outdoorsy-like area, but Zanaris (the inhabited area, not the moon) is most likely a climate controlled environment in a cave underneath the moon's surface. She's fine with calm sunny days but dealing with weather is a not her job.

As for myself, I like it. I like it better when it's green. Some of it makes me sneeze and makes my eyes itch, but I am fine as long as I can take a shower or a bath later.

There's not much nature on Jedha to enjoy. Baze likes the lake of Milliways, but hasn't explored the forest yet. He'd probably enjoy it, as he enjoys a lot of things.

Wilford hates it. Evil things come from nature. Like disease-carrying bugs and werewolves and witches and things. No thanks.

Emcee is a city boy through and through. I think this was best demonstrated in Milliways via a conversation between 10-year-old rescued street urchin Emcee and 10-year-old Viking child Eric. They couldn't have been more opposite. Emcee appreciates nice weather and a beautiful landscape, but he's not going to take a stroll through the woods on a whim, especially not alone.

Pam is just going to give you a death stare.

Floki is a hippie who listens to trees. I think that sums it up.

I like nature in small doses. Being a New Yorker, my idea of nature is Central Park or the Botanic Gardens and the like where I can go in, immerse myself for a couple of hours with my camera and a packed lunch, and then get out.

Will Scarlett loves the outside, Sherwood Forest has always been his safe space.

Quentin like some parts of the outdoors, a lot of the Summerlands and knowes are a mixture of inside and outside, but he also appreciates a good couch.

Cassian isn't sure what to make of that question, there are many planets with lots of odd climates, but being in nature isn't something he has time for. He knows how to adapt and I have this headcanon that his body tends to run cold so he prefers warmer places.

Charles appreciates the outside, he grew up in a mansion surrounded by basically a park but I don't see him as a hugely outdoorsy kid. That was a time where being outdoors was something you did but his favorite activity was reading outside.

William is comfortable in nature as that's where he lives and works and the big sky above him helps him feel peaceful but the idea of going outside to be outside is kind of odd.

Sameth prefers being outside, riding and working is comfortable for him.

Moist would like to be in a warm building though he does love riding on an open road, but nature messes with his suits.

Demeter is a goddess of nature and its where she feels right.

Ivan's happy if nature is over there, it can be beautiful and parks are nice but he's not a fan of camping for camping's sake.

Tumnus is happy in the forest, that's home.

Eriond loves nature! And it's his job sort of to keep an eye on it. But this is true of everything, so.

Evelyn frankly doesn't have much experience with ~Nature~, what with being in the Circle Tower most of her life. She would like it more if being out in it didn't usually include fighting desperately for her life...

Lois kinda likes it, but doesn't seek it out. She's a city girl, really. Also, if she doesn't get cell reception or wifi, she gets twitchy. That said, she really doesn't mind the occasional camping trip, and definitely enjoys scenic drives, assuming she and her dad don't drive each other crazy. Some places she likes better than others. Basically it takes effort to go there, but once there, she likes it. Beaches are an exception. Looooove the beach. Love laying in the sun or playing in the waves at the beach. Beeaaach. (By the way? This is also my opinion. Fun when it happens, I don't usually miss it when it doesn't. Except for the beach.)

R2-D2 doesn't have opinions one way or another, really, except in how extreme heat or cold affect his processing, precipitation can be annoying, rough terrain is a pain in the ass to move across, swamps suck, sand gets into everything, electrical storms are hazardous, wind can make certain traversals really dangerous... okay, possibly he has a lot of opinions, actually.

Anakin honestly doesn't care much, except for one thing: he likes water and green planets, and just... just don't ask him about sand, okay. Please. For all our sanity.

Tavi does not like swamps (too many bugs and muggy heat, and also associated with a part of Alera he has personal problems with), but tends to more or less enjoy the outdoors! He grew up in the country and now lives in a city, so getting out is a treat, and probably one he needs a few times a year so as not to get stir crazy. That said, a lot of Alera is covered in wax and/or burned right now, so it's a bit depressing. But he's going to work on fixing that.

Outdoors is not nature for him, though, and his relationship to nature is definitely more complex than that--even if his bound synthetic gestalt nature goddess has dissipated.

YT is a city girl. The idea of getting out into nature does not really appeal to her, although if she had to go on a day hike or something she probably wouldn't hate it too much.

Abe no Seimei has been known to retreat to remote, mountainous areas of Japan every once in a while to enjoy relative quiet and write some poetry.

Clint's pretty familiar with nature/the country, and usually likes or at least tolerates it (he's become less tolerant of the cold as he's aged). He prefers the green areas inside of cities to true nature, though -- his favorite place is Balboa Park in San Diego. He needs time in it to really relax.

Chuck thinks nature's all right! It's why we've got oxygen, isn't it? Oxygen's good. Oxygen's great. (AKA: He has almost zero experience with it outside of his day job, and is faintly at a loss for what to do in a wilderness setting.)

Sebastian is aware that nature is dangerous, and as such would rather not leave the road. But he had a great experience in the Enchanted Forest, which has made him a little fonder of the concept.

Legolas literally cannot imagine spending more than 6 hours outside of nature. 12, if this includes his father's palace, which is pretty frickin naturetastic.

Melinda likes nature a lot. I think she used to go camping with a little trailer pretty regularly. I'm not sure she needs it, but the space it gives her to breathe is very helpful.

Quatre thinks nature is beautiful and gorgeous and so fascinating and PLEASE SOMEONE FIND HIM CIVILIZATION RIGHT NOW. (he prefers to admire it from the safety of space, or at least a gundam or resort or something)

For me: I really like nature, though I find the quiet a little (ha, accidental pun on re-reading) disquieting sometimes. I handle it best when roadtripping by myself; able to drive through forests/deserts or make pit-stops in my car to walk and take pictures, or curl up with my travel blanket, no real obligation to get to a destination at a specific time. Though tbh, in deserts I am well-trained to be in constant contact with other humans.

I don't like camping, but I enjoy spending time at places like my parents', where their neighbors on 3 sides are the national forest and the fourth neighbor is only there 2 weekends a year. 20 minutes from the nearest restaurant (2 hours from the nearest full-sized store), but cozy and comfortable and peaceful.
