Monday DE: Flash Fic, AU edition

I'm back, y'all. Last week was soooo long and the move isn't done. Ugg.

Anyway, let's do some fic! Comment with pups you'd like to write for, we'll then comment back with prompts from which you'll write a short fic. And since AU week is sometime in the near future, how about the fic is a preview of the world you might be thinking of playing from?

Okay, this scene is set after Eadu and I'm adding more time instead of going directly from Eadu to meeting with rebels, now there's a brief online meeting with Draven. The scene's not finished but I think gives a sense of everyone, we're in Cassian's head at the moment.

He straightened his tie and looked into the mirror, he knew what they had to do. As long as Jyn was heard, there was hope and she was still here. Cassian touched his lips, this morning felt like a dream and one he didn’t want to dare look too closely at. Now was the time to do what he was good at, use data to back up Jyn’s passion and the truth of what they all saw happen to Jedha. He went into the living room and started to set up the computer, he hoped that Eliot was able to get everyone. As he was typing in another password, he smelled coffee and Bodhi set down a mug by him, “You look like you need this.”

He turned with a quick pause, he wouldn’t look away from the disappointment and hatred Bodhi felt. When he met Bodhi’s eyes he found hope and he managed to say, “Thank you.”

Then there was a ping on the laptop and he turned back as Draven’s face appeared. Automatically he sat up straighter and felt Bodhi’s presence behind him, he could hear Chirrut’s quiet steps, Jyn’s louder ones and knew Baze was settled in a chair. He didn’t want this to just be Draven, not now, Organa and Mothma had to hear this.

“Andor, Spencer told me about this meeting you want. It’s not going to happen like this. If you have something worth saying then I’ll get you coordinates to meet,” Draven as always was crisp.

“Yes, sir, there’s confirmation from Erso of what’s been built and information of where to find the plans,” It was more than enough to move on.

“And Erso?”

Behind him he heard Jyn make a small sound and he couldn’t turn away, not from Draven, but a chair creaked as Baze moved beside her. Cassian clenched and unclenched one hand as he answered, “Killed during an unexpected raid that also destroyed the lab.”

Draven gave him a questioning look that he’d learned during his first tour and he gave a minute headshake, he didn’t take this shot, “Bring your confirmation and you’ll be heard.”

“Yes, sir, and could you send me authorization for three refugees from Jedha?” He could at least accomplish that, give Bodhi, Baze and Chirrut a new beginning.

“I’ll see what I can do,” Then Draven was gone and he finally took a sip of coffee, it was strong and spicy.

“Does he always treat you like that?” The softness in Chirrut’s voice surprised him and as he turned he prepared to face more disappointment.

“Like what?” He knew that Draven could be harsh but he was the best at what he did.

“Like a tool that’s lucky to be used,” Chirrut said and Cassian shook his head as he drank some coffee, his phone beeping probably with the coordinates.

“No, of course not. This should be where we’re headed, a secure location where the truth can be heard,” Baze was giving him a considering look and he didn’t want to think about what was behind it, pity or contempt? There was work to do, one more step but that was how it always went.

He pulled up a map to see where they were going and Bodhi sat down on the arm of his arm chair and asked, “How long have you worked for him?”

This wasn’t the conversation he wanted to have and he smelled Jyn’s shampoo as she came over, “Is that an airport?”

“Old base that’s now a rural airport so it can be secured. According to this, they should all be there,” Better question to answer but he didn’t want to not say anything to Bodhi, “I served under him on my first tour.

Very little capacity today. Falling back on my most reliable, neither of which are actually getting AUs this year. I will list their AUs, but be aware I will fall back on one that makes more sense to me or their canon self if my bandwidth collapses:

Lois Lane (YA teen; feel free to ask for Smallville or pre-nu52 comics)
Tavi (canon; AU where many of the fridged women in his world survive; AU modern Earth thing that is extremely hazy and I am unlikely to actually write)

She stood at guard position, ignoring the tears falling down her cheeks.
There is no emotion, there is peace

Peace is a lie

Deep within, the urge to attack first struggled with the instinct to wait.
There is something more powerful than fear, the Force.

Yes, feel the power your hate brings you. Use it and your enemies will fall.

With no warning, Tristan charged; yellow eyes blazing, red-bladed lightsaber slashing. She parried with little thought, relying on all Kanan and Ahsoka taught her, as she waited for her opening. Tristan was stronger, but she was faster. Several times she had an opening for a killing blow, but she would not take it. They leap and parried, turning the snow to mud in their wake. She thought he might be screaming but deep in the Force as she was, she didn't care.

Finally, she had it and struck out, destroying his saber and kicking out to knock the wind out of him. The fight was over but the war to free her family and Mandalore was just starting.

I did it right! I don't know if I'll run with it, but I had the idea of Sabine as a padawan and Lee and I have been coming up with ways it could happen. In this one, she was Maul's apprentice for a while, and now he's claimed Tristan.

Lois in a Weird West, ala Wild Wild West or the like?

How about Tavi in a gunsliger world?

Or for prompts, how about "dining room, fragile" for Lois and "specifically sized" for Tavi.

Not Fully Awake

[personal profile] childofrebellion 2017-07-24 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Cassian yawned and wrapped his hands around the mug of caf that Kay had given him. They'd arrived a few minutes ago and he could barely see the sun, hadn't seen it for days on the mining station, but it was briefing time.

As he walked through the base, it was oddly quiet, he saw Draven looking over a datapad with Organa nearby. He passed the mug to Kay who said, "You should finish that as you are not fully awake. I calculate that if you drink the rest of your caf and eat a ration bar, you will be."

"I will later, Kay," He stood up straighter, the mission had gone well, no one died who wasn't meant to or looked too closely at him.

Organa looked up and smiled at them, "Captain Andor, did you find what you were looking for?"

"Senator, not everything but almost all of it," It always surprised him how warm Organa was as if everyone in the Rebellion was worth knowing.

Draven gave him a nod and he started running down what he had found, who had been there and what was being hidden. It was another trail of information towards what the Empire was building.

A little sleep went a long way, for a centurion. Marcus took his own at captain's orders, who seemed to be back on track with his habit of deeming everyone else in need of more care than he did himself. Marcus couldn't help but shake his head at how deeply that core was impressing the remnants of the Senatorial Legions. The captain really didn't seem able to help himself. Still the centurion was deeply grateful for the rest and somewhat exasperated by the young man's relentless drive.

The Cursor was even more exasperated by it. Fidelias could see Gaius Septimus and Gaius Sextus both writ large in Octavian's actions. He could only hope the youngest Gaius had more common sense.

Common sense out of Octavian, he reflected, was probably a hopeless dream.

Coming out of his own rest, Marcus was somewhat relieved to see Antillar back at the captain's side. Maximus might be weakened from his wounds and healing, but at least he was there to keep an eye out for trouble. Marcus approached and gave Octavian a sharp salute. As he did, a cart behind him kicked up some of the dust that still covered much of the ruins of Mastings. The sky was finally clearing, but Marcus had a foreboding feeling in the pit of his stomach. Though they had no news, when it came, it wouldn't be good.

Antillar coughed, waving his hand in front of his face. "Crows. You didn't tell me the place had burned this much."

"It didn't," the captain said quietly. His green eyes flicked to the south, briefly, and somewhere deep inside Marcus something clenched with mild nausea as the Cursor's guess was confirmed. He remembered Octavian's face, the days before. How he'd worked it out faster even than the other Cursors (or other intelligence agents) in the Legion, doubtless few would ever guess. Fidelias--and, he suspected, Magnus--knew better.

With an uneasy look, Antillar followed his glance. Missing the last few days left him without some critical information, or he'd probably know by now himself. "Calderon?"

Octavian's lips quirked up in a faint smile--one without any humor at all--and shook his head. "Sacred right."

Maximus didn't relax any. "That's my line," he protested, though it fell extremely flat.

The captain just shook his head. "Confirmation will come in the next day or two. I'll call a meeting then." Marcus could see Maximus bursting to ask what the confirmation was of, but Octavian had already moved on. "Marcus. Have you had a chance to check in with the Tribunes Logistica yet."

"Yes, sir," he replied, and they moved on as Marcus tried to put the conversation as far behind him as Octavian had.

Oh this is chilling and I love Marcus' view on Tavi.
