Thursday DE: speed dating (or speed hating) edition
You ever feel like it’s hard to meet characters? Hard to find reasons to throw two characters together, and not sure you want to commit to a whole scene? Let’s try speed dating: Comment with your characters below, and people will tag in for a speed date. To simulate the time limit, each conversation can go no longer than 7 tags from each person. Characters who come as a set can absolutely join too, nothing wrong with a three-way or more-way date! (And no, these absolutely do not have to be dating-type conversations. Speed arguing, speed hating, speed friendly chatting, those are good too. Just throw characters at each other.)
This is all off-the-record, of course, not really IC. Unless someone has a character who wants to ICly set this up.
EDIT: this is open till whenever, tag on in!

Hedda is genuinely delighted by this, smiling as she pours one of the small, strong cups of coffee for Baze and pours a warm-up for herself. "You know, since I first came here I've heard time and again that people from all sorts of worlds come to Milliways, and yet, I think you are the first I've met who wouldn't be from some version of the same planet. I was beginning to wonder if the Fermi Paradox hadn't been solved even at the end of the universe."
Having poured for them, she scoots Baze's cup of coffee closer for him to try. "This way of making coffee is generally called Turkish coffee. There will be coffee grounds in the bottom of the cup. It is quite strong, flavored with cardamom and sweetened with sugar."

Baze has never considered extraterrestrial intelligent life something one would have to search for. That that exists has always been a fact of life, for him.
He accepts the small cup of coffee with a word of thanks, marveling at how smooth the ceramic is under his fingers. He blows on the drink, and takes a gulp. "Mmm. That's delightful. I really like the spice! What's it called again? Cardamom?"

"The Fermi Paradox is... essentially a fancy, scientific a way of asking 'where is everybody?'" she replies, cupping her hands around her coffee cup and inhaling the scent. "There are uncountable stars in the universe, billions of which should have planets and moons capable of supporting life, supporting the development of civilizations. There is every probability of there being life on other worlds, but there has also been a complete lack of evidence of such so far. Scientists on Earth have been sending out signals and communications in every way they can think to try for decades now, but with no answer."

His eyes widen at her description. "That must be so lonely! Jedha--the moon I'm from--played host to pilgrims from all over the galaxy. There are thousands of types of non-humans, too, so there are hundreds of thousands of languages, cultures, and religions. I can't even imagine only having one dominate species in the universe. I hope you make contact soon."
